What happens on the last DCP day?

Hello everyone. I will be flying down from Indiana to help Gdaughter drive back. Don't want to stay for doing Disney, just want to get there & back as fast as possible.

Her last day is 1/5/15. I need to schedule flight & hotel. Anyone know if the last day is a work day or a paperwork/Human Resources day?

And when will she be required to vacate the condo? She works late shift attractions & sometimes works until wee hours of the a.m. If she works that on 1/5, can she go back to condo & sleep or does she need a hotel for that?

Don't think she can save some days off & take those the last couple of days. I don't see Disney letting anyone off work during that New Year's weekend!

Info will be appreciated. Thanks.

My last work day on the DCP was January 1, 2014. We had until January 3rd or 4th to move out of the apartments. If the 5th is the last day of her "DCP" whereby after that day she is no longer an employee then she will be working that day and has 2 days afterward to move out.

You don't really have to fill any paperwork out, you just turn in your cast ID and whatever else to your managers, make sure the apartment is cleaned and everything is out and you're good to go, just return the apartment ID to the front desk. I moved my things out a week before since my parents were at a hotel and then January 1st I worked 8AM-3PM and I turned in my ID, threw my clothes into the chute, and walked out to my car and we started the drive home.

You're almost guaranteed not to get any days off the last week (I worked 14 days straight?) of the program and I'm also positive that you have to work your last day or you're program is considered incomplete. You can see if she can trader her late night shift for something earlier in the day with a coworker (PT or FT). I traded my 11-6 shift for my 8-3 so I could get out earlier.

Hmm my daughter did a few years back and she closed at AK the night before she had to be out of the housing. I believe she had to be out at noon. We literally picked her up from work, took her back and packed packed packed and then she still had a few things to deal with in the morning.

My understanding was that everyone for fall 2014 had the same last day, which I took to be the day to be out of apartment and not the last day of work. My son was working at Blizzard Beach so I wasn't real concerned since it isn't a busy time for the water park. I am flying down so that I can help with the drive back.

He is going to be deployed to Pinocchio Village Haus in a few weeks. Since he will now be working in Magic Kingdom, of course he could get deployed again to somewhere else, I am not so sure. I know they are busy on New Years day, and figuring that they will probably be busy January 2 and 3 as well since those are Friday and Saturday. Better chance now that he will be working up to and including January 4.

Not too worried. If he is working until January 4, it isn't like I can't keep myself occuppied down there for a few days. :cool1: I am a planner so it is harder for me to not know.

They do not work the last day of the program. That is the day that they must be checked out of the apartment if staying in Disney housing. I can't remember exactly but my daughters last day of work was either Wed or Thur of that week. That last week is also a bit unusual too in that they cannot request time off for those last few days and they cannot give up shifts. They must work the last few days they are scheduled.

We actually had my daughter packed and out of the apartment prior to the last day. She was staying with us her last week so we could partake of the healthy discount in the Cabins at Fort Wilderness. I think we actually had her out of the apartment the Sunday before her last day.

If things haven't changed since this Spring (and they could have - things change all the time....) she will not be scheduled to work her very last day of her program. If her last day is 1/5, she will need to be out of her apartment (if she is living in Disney housing) by 11:00am that day. She then just drops off her key, her wardrobe and ID, then she's good to go. At least that's how it was for my DD in August.

Thank you so much everyone.

According to what you folks offered, do you think this is correct? - She'll close the park (since that is her shift) 1/4-1/5, which 1/4 is the day before her last day of 1/5. Then only have until 11am on 1/5 to vacate the apt. Looks best to plan for her to be packed before the 1/4-1/5 last shift since she'll be too tired to pack, clean, etc. between 1/5 early a.m. hours & 1/5 11am checkout. I'm sure she will rather pack & clean on her last days off, rather than try to do so after working the graveyard shift.

So, I think I will get her a hotel for nite of 1/4. Then she can return to that hotel room in the early hours of 1/5 & get a good nite/day sleep. Then 1/6 a.m. we'll head out for the 2 day drive back.

I don't want to stay longer than necessry because DH & I will go our regular times - 1st week Dec 2014 & 1st week Feb 2015. Plus we went in May 2014 when she started & Sept 2014 to visit with her. So, I'll probably fly down on 1/4 to get her & I a hotel room for the nites of 1/4 & 1/5.

That gives me 2 days to eat some of my favorite goodies! Magic Cookie Bars, Twistee Treat on 535 (lots), Boma for breakfast! Yum! Hubby will be jealous, but then he doesn't want to suffer the road trip! But I will bring him some of his favorite Magic Cookie Bars!

Another question - As of 1/5 (her last scheduled day) does she lose her free access to the parks?

For Fall 2013, for everyone that I knew our last day of work was Jan. 1 and our last day to move out of the apartment was the 3rd or 4th. They won't make you move out as soon as your shift is over, they should give you 2-3 days to gather everything, clean, etc. Have her ask some other CPs about it.

But once she turns her ID and Admit cards into her managers she can no longer go the parks for free.

Well.....I use this excuse - her mind is younger than mine! Per calls to the apartment office & her manager -

1. Manager -
--She will not work on 1/4. That is to allow her to pack & get ready to move out of apartment no later than 1/5 at 11am.
--She cannot leave/checkout early without a record of "not completing the program".
--She cannot switch days off and shifts at the end. So she will have her regular days off on Tues, Wed. Work Thurs, Fri, Sat. Packing day off on Sunday 1/4. Program last day & move out day Monday 1/5 no later than 11am.

2. Apartment Office -
--She does not have to "clean". Just don't leave anything in the apartment including trash.
--At the security gate, she turns in her keys/ids as she exits for the last time. Only takes a minute or two.

So we decided I will fly in Monday 1/5, arrive 9:30am. Booked room at All Sports for 1/5. We will hit the road on 1/6.

Usually I like to drive to/from WDW on Sat & Sun to avoid rush hours & the weekday traffic. But since 1/3 & 1/4 are the weekend days after New Years I'm sure the line going North will be long. At least in the past that is what we have found after a holiday week. So, since we have promised family not to drive in the "dark", should be able to avoid the road during a.m. & p.m. rush hours.

BTW - shipping her car - put that on Google & found some interesting info. Basically the cost would have been about $500 - no more or much more than 1 nite at WDW, 1 nite on road, gasoline, meals, etc. That would have been a great option but she has her desktop computer with her. Shipping companies said definitely not safe to leave in car. FedExing would be expensive & nerve racking! Can't imagine getting it past TSA at the airport. So, we will just drive.

Thanks everyone.

My daughter has to move into her college dorm on January 4th and attend first day of classes on the 5th.....obviously she will have to leave Disney early. She asked someone about this early on and was told it was no big deal and that her program would still be considered complete. She was told that everyone is not actually leaving on the 5th even though it says that - people will be leaving all week. She plans to leave on the 1st - she has to get home, pack and move across the state for school. I will have her call again to be sure - she can't possibly be the only one who starts school that early. Hope she can end with a good record!

Take into consideration that things may have changed since my program. But from my experience, all the CPers "last" day of work at my location was either December 31st or Jan 1st. Those whose last day of work were those dates checked out of their program Jan 3rd.
Because I extended, my check out date was May 13th. My "last" day of work was May 11th. I think the rule of thumb is that they will schedule you up to 2 days before your departure from the program itself.
Your daughter will be very lucky (and happy) to have you help her move out. I flew to FL and flew back home, on my own. Packing was no picnic. My packing adventure started in late March (yes, I had that many things). Yet I still had a ton to do the day before I left. The thing is a lot of people end up buying so much while on the program that you accumulate a lot of things. On her last week, I would suggest having her pack away any items she won't need anymore for that week. That one day off between last day of work and last day of program for packing isn't enough. But they seem to think one day is good enough to pack out 4/7 months of your stay.

My daughters last day of work was January 1 and her program ended January 3. Even though your Gdaughter has, what seems like a regular schedule, they only get their actual work schedule 2 weeks out, so there is no way to know what days she will be working until 2 weeks prior to the program end.
Just have her start packing up the last week so most of her stuff is packed. Thats the hard part. Dropping off the key, ID and costuming is a breeze.

Sorry to crash your thread but I am flying to and from for my DCP. Should I plan to fly out my last day or should I plan to fly out the following day since we have 3 days to move out?

I did the program Spring 2012. I was able to leave a few days early and my program was considered complete. I don't remember the exact dates any more but I know it can be done.

The end date of your program is the date you must be out of the apartment. If you are Spring Advantage with an end date of Aug 7, that's the day you must be out. Your last work day will be Wed, Aug 5. At least that's how it worked for my oldest daughter in 2013. Her last day of the program and the day she had to be out of the apartment was Aug 9. Her last work day was Aug 7.
