Hi everyone, going to be taking our first DVC trip in Feb, cant wait. Was looking at the Disney DVC Trip Insurance and a question came up about cancelations.

So we are in NJ, so theres a chance of snow storms and flights being canceled.
So the policy for cancelations states
On the Check-In Date
All of the Vacation Points used to make the reservation will be forfeited.

If we were at the airport and last minute they canceled our flight the day of Check-in. So now we cant get there, or atleast we cant get there the first day. At this point its to late to cancel to get points in Holding.

My assumption is, we call Member services and tell them we cant make it today but are hoping to make the next day, so not canceling, we just loose out on the first day.
My guess is thats how it works as long as you call them correct? Basically want to make sure that not showing up doesnt cancel the Room for the week and my points get forfeited.

So about 5 years ago we had this happen to us flying out of Buffalo,NY.
Now I will say that this happened to us,,,I dont know how Member Services would apply now.
Bad snow storm in Buffalo Mid March,,,not unheard of , but we took the chance. Flight cancelled, cant get another one out of Buffalo for 3 days. Started the drive back home to Toronto, should have been 2 hour drive,,turned into 7 hours. So on way back we called Member Services, explained out situation and that we think there were flights out of Toronto late next night. They were great, put the 2 nights we missed back into our account, not holding,( probably using our 1 time exemption for this, but that is ok) cancelled our dining reservations without paying the no show fee, and was able to rebook some of our dinning to another night that we did not have yet.
So that is my real world experience with them, but that was 5 years ago,,,But very understanding and helpful. I am sure they get a few of these every year with weather.
Side note, my wife will not let me book flights out of Buffalo anymore, and we tend to drive anyway.

That is great, hopefully they still do the 1 time exemption, granted hopefully we will never need it, but was curious

This is encouraging that there are options that dont involve losing all your points, TY
