Just curious if anyone knows how exactly it would work in the unlikely scenario that Disney were to one day go under. Parks close, hotels close, waterparks close, but DVC remains open because it is owned by us.

Resorts like SSR, RIV, and OKW wouldn't have too much of an issue because they are stand alone resorts. But what about the others? If Boardwalk hotel closes, what happens to the rest of the resort at BWV? Would it remain open, but BWV owners would have to pay for the maintenance of the entire resort? What about Jambo? Could they just keep the rooms and front desk open but close the pool, gym, restaurants, and all of the other amenities?

It is really unlikely that WDW and DL would be closed during the lifetime of the DVC contracts. Even if Disney Co would go bankrupt, another company would step in to take over the theme parks, movie portfolio etc.

Stay at DVC resort and drive to Universal Studios.

The most likely scenario would be that the resort is sold to another company, like Marriott or Hilton, they would operate the cash section and become the new management company for the DVC portion of that resort. Taking over Disney's management contract. This is one reason I prefer that DVC has an end date built into the contracts, at the worst, most owners, except at the very newest resorts, would only be stuck with the timeshare for a few years.

Welcome to Comcast World. ;)

We've considered this... our DVC is paid up, and has hit break even.

So - pure economics? We would surrender our contracts at $1.00, for all points. Or simply refuse to pay any more dues, and let the lawyers deal with it.

As said above, if it were to happen, things will be so bad that a vacation will probably be the last thing on my mind.

You say that but P&R are just a profit center in Disney. If they keep doing what they're doing and it isn't a profit center anymore, it will be gone faster than Horizons. And they're on track based on the last few days.

Now you're just being silly, sInce our ownership paperwork specifically states there is no guarantee of theme parks.

I know that. I was being silly on purpose. The internet. No context or tone.

I will tell you this, and I'm not going to re-hash my post in another thread, but I, for one, am done touting this as just a timeshare. I've done it for years, but at the end of the day, it's crap and I'm not toeing the company line anymore. It has suited the dialog so long that we have brow-beaten it into people that come here and then those people start preaching the same crap.

Stop. Please just stop. If one thing comes out of all of this, can we please stop propagating this notion that DVC isn't different? It's not just a timeshare. If it was, I would have bought a cheap $1 timeshare of Ebay. The entirety of marketing and selling DVC is those parks outside the off-site properties, and even then it's all sold based on FL and CA. In NC TS law, what's said is just as important as what is written, and the entire sales pitch is based on those gates. It's time to stop pretending when it suits the dialog. I (and I suspect the vast majority of us) purchased DVC with my hard-earned money in order to get to those parks. Period. If I just wanted to vacation in Orlando area, I'd stay somewhere at half the cost and twice the resort amenities. All of us would.

yup. and yup. i want 1 person here to type they would pay all the money we do to have one of these dvc hotels and no access to the parks. i love my dvc and i bought it to make being in the parks easier. i don't want rent a car. i want to new on property. when i'm in florida i don't want to be anywhere else. if i'm not in disney I'm on the beach in north carolina relaxing and fishing as much as possible.

Those decals on the back of every bus aren't pictures of the resorts for a reason.

BTW, howdy neighbor. Sounds like you might be right down the road.
