Hi girls,

Could anyone tell me what the procedure when you go to get your marriage licence at the courthouse?

I'm just wondering if there are forms that need filled in, what I.D. you need, what happens if you've changed your surname in the past etc...

I changed my surname when I was young and my mum remarried. So my sarname is different on my birth certificate than it is now. I have a officail letter that states that I have changed my name and it has been signed by a justice of the peace, but I'm not sure if this will be enough?

Good god I wouldn't want to get there and find that I couldn't get a marriage licence

any help appreciated

I would appreciate this info also! I was planning on going through the mail-away company that DFTW suggested (sayidoweddingsinc) but they charge an EXTRA $95! We get there 2 days early, so I'm very tempted to just go get it ourselves...

Let's see, if i remember correctly you need your State ID's/passports-not sure how different it is if your coming from out of the US (for more exact info go to http://orangeclerk.onetgov.net/faq/faq-marriagelicense.htm).

Its very easy once you get there, just fill out the forms and the clerk makes you swear that whatever info you've provided is acurate, and viola! your done!

Hopefully it will be quick for you guys!

You can do the mail-away license for FREE through Brevard County (well, you gotta pay for the license, but nothing extra). It's quick and painless.

Thanks girls, I've looked at all the info but I'm still a tiny bit confused :confused3

When you fill in the forms is there any question about if you have changed your name in the past?
Also what ID documents do you need?
Is it the same documents for UK couples as it is for USA couples?

Thanks again, as I said - I would die if I got there and couldn't get a licence

I've never heard of anyone being asked for their birth certificate for a marriage license. All you need is your passport or (for US brides) a driver's license.

Check out Summer-Caitlin's trip report - she's from the UK and went to the courthouse to get her license.... she gives a great account of how everything worked and how easy it was. :thumbsup2

I went to the OC clerk and I'm pretty sure we had to show our BC. DH did also bring his divorce papers but they did not ask for that at all.

I did not know this! Where did you find this out? Saving this file for next year:thumbsup2

Lots of DISers have used Brevard County's mail-away option - I think I did like you and filed it away for future reference when I first heard about it! :)

The ID requirements may vary by courthouse (Orange vs. Osceola), but in general the only time you have to show your birth certificate is if you don't have a driver's license or passport OR if you are 18 years old. US residents also have to provide their Social Security numbers or imigration/naturalization number.

Again, it all seems to vary by courthouse, so I guess the best advice is to check before you go!

Everytime i see the title of your thread I say..

In my head

:rotfl:

Sorry, :)

 this was another reason i didn't want to go with sayido... they ask for your birth certificate AND your SS#!! Via mail - I don't think so!!! Not to mention, its a separate company than the courthouse, so who knows how they file their paperwork -- I don't want some crazy stranger with my birth cert and ss# ... that's just ASKING to have your identity stolen...

Thanks for the tip about Brevard... I'll have to check into that one... :goodvibes

I submitted my preliminary paperwork through Brevard County Courthouse. So far so good. :thumbsup2

thats great, let us know how you get on and what the requirements are.
