What Happens at Christmas?

Hi

We visited the park a few years ago without children...However we are planning a trip for Christmas 2008 now we will have a child in tow and she will be four years old by then and I cant wait! I want to know what happens at the Disney hotels over the Christmas period?
Is everything open as normal on Christmas day like the resturants?

Hi Jennie,

We were there last year - stayed off site though - but each hotel has special things going on like carol singers, visits from santa and his elves, story times etc. Each hotel is decorated/themed with a fabulous tree - well worth going to each one to have a look around.

We ate at Citricos at GF on Christmas Day - it was a set menu like table d'ote here. Starter was a selection of mini dishes then you could choose your main course and desert. Kids had a really nice choice too - good proper food as I would call it - no fries to be seen but lovely mash potato. My DD11 and DS7 want to go back there every trip so that is a good recommendation.

If you need to book for Christmas Day get in as soon as you can make your ADR as it is busy. Christmas is the best time to be there!!!

Everything at Disney will be open on the holiday. Sometimes they close the parks a little early on Christmas Eve, and sometimes not. It's a very busy week, so make your plans, and dining reservatons, early. It's a good idea to pick one park each day and plan to spend the day there, as sometimes the parks fill to capacity and they don't let any additional guests in until late in the afternoon.

There are plenty of holiday happenings, but one thing I try not to miss is the Candlelight Processional at Epcot. It's a reading of the Christmas story and a choir singing Christmas music. If your child has a pretty good attention span, I would recommend getting the dinner package. If not, you can hear the reading and music from just outside the American Gardens Theater, where you would have more room to move around and not disturb anyone.

We went down last year during the week of 12/23 to 12/31. Every day and night, everything was open as usual. Just a word of caution about park capacity.....before Noon on Christmas Day the Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom were at full capacity. We actually avoided the parks on Christmas Day but went to DTD and a few other places. This was the only day that we heard the parks reached capacity, supposedly if you are a resort guest you can still get in. Not sure if this is true or not. Oh yeah, we also attended the Christmas Day Mass at the Contemporary Resort.

We are looking into GF in early Dec. Can you tell me what things GF does specifically at Christmastime? I have heard there are lots of decorations but I have never visited it at Christmastime.
