What happened to World of Color?

This is interesting. I watched the youtube video of the new show and thought maybe it just didn't translate well to video. Because the truth is, i wasn't wow'ed at all. We may give the real thing a chance in October, but we may not. From what i have seen, i prefer the old show.

Now the videos of the new parade and fireworks were amazing

In celebration of the 60 th Anniversary, WoC ( Not to be confused with Chinese cookery) is currently in B&W only....ah...nostalgia. Lol

Minority voter here. I haven't seen the 60th WOC yet, but I hated the original. The lack of cohesion bugged me, but what upset me to the point of never seeing it again was the Lion King clip. Everything's cute and dancy, Sebastian takes us "under the sea", etc...and out of nowhere they choose the death of Mufassa and then it's back to cutesy happy clips? It upset me and pulled me completely out of it. Maybe because I was 9 when I watched Lion King I'm more sensitive to it? Either way, I thought it was poor taste. Bring on the 60th version!!

Don't you know every Disney show has to get dark before it has a Good Triumphs over Evil conclusion?

"This is MY dream!"

Dick Van Dyke would have been a perfect option for this show, otherwise Richard Sherman would've been another good candidate.

I keep mulling about this show - it could have been so good. Think about it, Walt Disney's favorite song was Feed The Birds - oh the possibilities that could been done with that song (although there wouldn't have been a dry eye in the park if that happened). Couldn't they have used that instead of wedging Let It Go in there? How can they claim that's a show about Walt when they just hodgepodged a bunch of current popular stuff (including NPH) in there?

I really enjoyed it and thought everything fit great except "Let it Go". They could have just done the chorus of the song or something. It was definitely wedged in there.

Hmmmm, I had the completely opposite reaction. One of the best things about the original WOC was that it ran the gamut of emotions. Every good story has conflict problem/solution, crisis/resolution. There is no darkness without light and vice versa. I miss the intensity of the that entire sequence, and the beautiful emotional resolution at the end.

The original WOC show was great, then they changed it to add Frozen stuff which I disliked. I was pleased with the latest version celebrating the 60th anniversary and my only minor complaint is that the only song sung in it's entirety was a Frozen song (yuck). I don't intend to offend anyone who likes Frozen because I did enjoy the movie but personally I feel that Disney is really pushing the Frozen popularity and I've had my fill. I would expect that after the 60th anniversary celebration is over that WOC will be redone again.

I know a lot ppl are hating on frozen but my family and I love it and I don't think we will get tired of it. I can see where I think they should have had a few more full songs in the new woc. But Disney does go with the more popular stuff so that most guests and kids will like it. Most do like Frozen and Disney will use it for at least a few more years.

What I heard was there was a last minute edit to the current WOC show and the Frozen segment was plugged into the otherwise cohesive show. I was at the premier WOC show in 2010 and I am looking forward to this years show.

Yes, I am getting CC Woc lunch tickets but WOC is just an excuse and it's my 25th Anniversary trip. I can have a nice lunch with my wife and get tix to a show I enjoy.

Saw the new show last weekend, and I agree with the original poster - meh, at best. Boring. Really, really missed the Pirates segment with Jack Sparrow saying he would not be doing that again. Also missed the variety of magical music. There were two songs in the original WOC that I (and my husband) really connected with; now they aren't there. I won't be going to see it again. Once was enough. I'll be over in the other park for the parade, Fantasmic, and fireworks.

I've watched the new WOC a couple more times on youtube since my original post. While I can now say that certain aspects have grown on me to the point where I'm kinda excited to see it in person in July, it still, definitively, unequivocally, undeniably--for me, at least--is not as good as the original.

I am a fan of NPH, but it seems to have too much NPH.

I'm NOT a fan of NPH, so I'm sure there's too much of him. Just watching a few minutes of a youtube video, all I could think of was, "They couldn't find anyone else to this?" The only thing missing was him holding a Heineken. C'mon Disney!

The new show is just...meh...compared to the other one. It has gone from WOW to cutesy and quaint. I'm a huge Disney history buff so in theory I should like this show but it really does lack the emotional impacted dynamics of the original. The music is lacking, there's too much narration, and half the time it looks like the water canons are doing everything they can to observe California's water shortage. Way too much usage of the mist screens to tell the story (of which there is very little) rather than the actual fountains. And why is Neil Patrick Harris singing the theme?

(sigh)

Did the imagineers just bite off more than they could chew with a new parade, new fireworks show and WOC update all at the same time? Seems like they are spread too thin.

The only thing not spread too thin is Frozen which is apparently the centerpiece to every single Disney nighttime spectacular now. I think it's time to let "Let It Go" go.

Sorry to vent, I just miss the old WOC. It was my favorite show Disney ever created and we are taking some friends this Summer who haven't been since they were kids. Was really hoping they'd get to see the awesomeness that was the original WOC.

How is everyone else feeling about it?

I just posed the same question to their Music Director, John Dennis, in my interview with him on the Blurred Radio podcast on Monday. I personally love the show, but I know they were under immense pressure to pull everything together in an unusually short amount of time. The way he put it, Disney fans were calling for Frozen to be integrated. Makes sense, as that soundtrack has been the most identifiable in pop culture in recent history. It'd be interesting to see a poll of opinions on this.
