My one MUST HAVE is now a Never Again! Our most recent trip was Nov 2011and I always make a beeline for Norway every epcot visit. I was so excited to have the school bread again, I had been waiting a whole year! Anyway, I looked at it in the display and just knew that something was "off" about it. Took one bite, then another, and almost started crying. :sad

What used to be a huge fluffy and moist pastry overflowing with sweet, goey coconut custard is now a dry, chewy wheat bun filled with a dab of sticky, plasticy yellow goo with no custard or coconut flavor.

Why did they change this??

I did manage to try something new in HS. It is in Starring Rolls and it is called a "Banana Split". It was heavenly. Banana custard with a chocolate brownie bottom and caramel drizzled throughout with real banana chunks. My new must have treat!

Well this was my experience with school bread two years ago. I couldn't figure out why everyone was raving. The school bread was dense, a bit dry, with a little dollop of custard on top and very little coconut, certainly not a glaze. I didn't get it. I asked on the boards and people assured me it was a fluke. That school bread was soft and lovely but after what you said... perhaps it is just hit or miss? Someone suggested maybe what I was served as old.

No, they did change the school bread. It's not a fluke.

I tried it 3x in one trip and everytime it was the same thing. I finally asked the CM cashier if they changed the recipe and she said, "We only modified it to our customers liking". BS! What customer would request that?

I have been getting the school bread since 2001 and it was always delish. This was my first year it was disgusting.

I'm so glad that you posted this ... I was going to make a special trip over to Epcot just to try the School Bread that I've heard so much about.

We were there in Sept and like you always make a bee line to Norway for School Bread (after a stop at Mexico for Fiesta Margaritas) and noticed it didnt taste as good as we remembered from previous visits.

I'm so sad!

Yet really glad to see this before I made the special trip to Norway just for school bread. I would have been really disappointed to waste a snack credit.

Is there an alternate tasty treat in Norway?

Rice Cream is always a clear winner in my book. I mean rice mixed with whipped cream and strawberry preserve sauce in layers. Light creamy and yummy.

I totally agree. The Rice Cream is so good! I was a bit miffed that I missed out on our last trip. I'm definitely getting it next time!

Your pictures are worth 1,000 words!

I thought it was just me who didn't "get" the thrill of school bread.

Make a detour to the French bakery instead. I had a Napoleon for the first time this trip, and oh my...

Agreed! Their napoleons are so yummy. i also like the kringla pretzels from noway. they are dry, but supposed to be that way. they are large pastry pretzels covered in sugar and almonds.

Our first trip as a family was in May of '09. I had read about the School Bread on the disboards and I talked and talked about it to my family. I was sooo excited to try it.

We get there and it was ehhh...kind of yucky. I couldn't believe it. I think I came back here and posted about it.

I believe they changed it right before my trip. Someone posted before and after pics and I had an "after."

I soo wanted to try the "before." :(

I will never forget the first time I had school bread. It was Christmas morning in 2006 and WOW! Had it again last year and ick, dry and tasteless. I agree, let's petition for the "old" school bread to return!
