What happened to the Magic Kingdom Club

We used to be a member of the Magic Kingdom Club which changed to the Disney Club (I think). But I heard that at the end of 2003 it's over. Is that true? Or will there be something else?

The Disney Club is ending Dec 2003. The "replacement" is the new Disney Visa from Bank One. You can earn Disney Dollars at 1% of your purchases.

This is another fine example of Disney screwing its best customers.

They are eliminating the 10% discount that you got with MKC/DC and replaced it with a 1% rebate if you use their credit card. Obviously, there is no comparison between those two deals. One more reason why Disney is suffering - they keep alienating their customers.

Actually, the 1% on the Visa is for ALL purchases, much like a Discover. Also, your Disney Trip is interest-free if you have no balance.

That's correct. But that still isn't nearly as good as a 10% discount on purchases at the Disney Store or in Downtown Disney. We've saved hundreds of dollars over the years with that 10% off.

And its not quite like a Discover card since Discover gives you cash back that you can spend anywhere. Disney basically gives you Disney dollars that you have to spend with them. Not a bad deal and similar to some other reward cards. For example, we use a Marriott Visa and earn points toward free stays. However, Marriott gives you 3% back on charges at Marriott facilities and 1% everywhere else. Disney gives you the same 1% even if you are charging Disney stuff - not particularly generous.

The interest-free deal has no value in my book because I pay my balance each month and we don't stay onsite when we go to WDW.

Just for the record, I did get a Disney card but I have yet to use it and probably won't unless they improve the rewards program considerably.

Truly no replacement for the Disney Club, IMHO.

Also, just as an FYI to those thinking about the visa - did you know that when they calculate the interest, it is "two cycle average daily balance"? That means, they calculate the interest twice during the billing cycle! Effectively, calculating interest on interest (besides any interest that accrues over the months". I noticed this on the form they sent when they were inviting people to get the card in the beginning. Which is why I didn't get it. It's fine if you don't carry a balance, but, I'm not going to get a card just because it is Disney!! 1% cash back just isn't enough incentive for me!

Atleast with Discover you ge the option of doubling your money. If you pick the certificates they have they give you double. I think thats great. I do use my Disney Visa but on on balances I intend to pay off. I have earned $20 in rewards but you pick a certificate to be used at TDS or WDW. I think they should just give you Disney Dollars that can be used everywhere. I also think for certain Disney items you pick you should have the opportunity to double your rewards--just like discover. Atleast Im DVC so I'll still be able to get 10% on some things but I dont think its a "replacement" for the DC either.
