What happened to Margaritaville?!

I can't tell you how much my family loved Margaritaville on every one of our past trips. We'd go multiple times and just love everything about it - the food, service, atmosphere. It was probably my favorite restaurant anywhere!

We're in Orlando now and had it planned to go to Margaritaville several times. After a two-year Orlando hiatus our first trip to Margaritaville in a while was last night and we were so excited!

What a mess. We had a 40-minute wait with a priority seating which is understandable on a Saturday afternoon, but people continuously walked in and were seated right away. Whatever, still not a big deal. Then they stuck six of us in a tiny booth, which mixed with the practically non-existent air-conditioning, it was HOT back there.

My 8-year old cousin ordered a fruit smoothie which our airhead of a waitress brought in a glass. Even our soda was in plastic glasses but she brought an 8-year old a glass. Then, as per the managers explanataion, due to the difference in temperature between the glass and the drink (the glass was hot and the drink was cold) the glass randomly exploded and sliced my cousin's finger open. The manager (I think his name was Steven) was very nice and helpful and had paramedics come to get the glass out of her finger and clean it up. As we were running around cleaning up the table ourselves and helping my cousin, they brought our food out! An 8-year old girl's sitting there bleeding and they're pushing food on the table. Are you serious? We told them to take it all back and the manager assured they'd make us new dishes.

The Volcano nachos, which we used to love, were a bunch of chips thrown on a plate with cold cheese melted on top. We asked for extra guacamole and sour cream and the waitress had her fingers in them when she brought them. Then my mom and I are vegetarians and ordered a Boca burger while my dad ordered a regular burger. We even changed the cheese on ours. When the food was brought back out the waitress assured us the burger she gave us was Boca, and I repeatedly asked her to make sure. She brought us meat.

We got up and left at that point. It was one major mess after another. The manager gave my cousin a free shirt since she was covered in sticky smoothie and offered us his card for a discount when we come back, but we won't be back.

It's disappointing to see how far downhill the restaurant's gone in only two years. The cutbacks are abundant and unfortunately they show. On a brither note, we wound up eating at Finnegan's in Universal and the food and service were great! Finnegans I couldn't reccomend enough... Margaritaville I'd stay far, far away from.

Good God! A discount on your next visit? I think comping the entire meal would have been just a wee tad more appropriate.

Oh No! You're scaring me! We were there 2 years ago (8/07) as well and had a blast. We are going back on Aug 20. I already bought $110.00 worth of gift cards and have a 6:00pm Priority Seating.

I'm sorry you all had a terrible visit. I hope your cousin is OK now. I also hope you were there on an OFF day (sorry).

Anyone else been there recently?

Oh, by the way, a discount is all he offered you? Really :confused3 I would have laughed in his face! I think that meal should have definately been on the house.

We where there in July, and like all our other visits it was excelllent.
I think if i had problems like the OP, i would most certainly not be returning, seems like a bit of a nightmare, after looking forward to going to margaritaville for so long.
But glad you had a great time at Finnegans, another one of our Favs.

Oh geez that sounds awful!!! We haven't had any issues there. I hope yours is an isolated one.

Yikes, what an awful experience! The situation was handled so poorly (to say the least). We always visit Margaritaville a few times during our stay and plan to next month. But if our experience is anything like yours, we definitely won't be going back. Did they comp your entire meal in addition to the free shirt and discount on a future visit?

I'm glad to hear you like Finnegan's. All we've had there is beer but plan to actually eat there this year before HHN.

Sorry that happened...that certainly doesn't sound like the Margaritaville I know. :sad2:

Thanks so much everyone. It was a mess! We've been looking forward to going back for two years now and we really weren't expecting any of that. As the EMS guy was cleaning my cousin's finger the manager whispered that the nachos were on them, as they were shoving cold food on the table. It was very strange. Then when we walked out he chased us down offering us a 10% discount on a future visit. My father works for NBC and gets that same discount. We didn't want anything from them to begin with, but it seemed like a small gesture for such a mess. It could have just been our waitress and a bad day, though. The portions have definitely gotten smaller since we were last there but we'd deal as long as the service was handled better. I'm just disappointed that my favorite restaurant's now off the list!

Today we went to Mythos and it was as good as always, so at least we still have that.

Thanks again! I was just curious is anyone had similar experiences.

Wow, that does not sound like Margaritaville. We always go there every trip and normally twice and have never had a problem, it had to be a fluke.

Wow!! we plan on going there on this up comeing Oct trip, wow what a mess i hope they get there act together by then:scared1:

wow that sounded like a horrible experience. Definitely not typical of Margaritaville service as far as i know. We ate there already 3 times so far and not once had a blip of trouble.

Sounds like one of those freakish planets are all lined up incidents from what i have heard people talk about.

Well at least Finnegins worked out better for you op.

Just back from dinner at Margaritaville this evening. Food and service was great as in the past. Only issue was the the air conditioning was out so most people opted for the outdoor deck.

Lou

The restaurant was perfect for us in June luckily. I feel for you, what a mess!

Eek, that doesn't sound good at all. I'm a vegetarian too and the fact that you were brought out meat burgers is totally unacceptable. I would consider writing a letter of complaint.

DBF and I are planning to eat there next month and we will probably still go as we've been looking forward to it. Hopefully we'll have a better experience. :confused3

I always go to Margaritaville every trip as well. I'm a big parrothead though. In all honesty, I have always had a great time and never have anything bad to say about it. Our last trip in May, our waitress was a little slow to bring drinks and refills and the bill and stuff, but other than that the food was great and everything else was too! Sorry about your experience!

Thanks! It was probably just our airhead of a waitress and an off-day. Mixed with the glass incident and the lack of air-conditioning, it just ruined the restaurant for us. I hope everyone else has better experiences!

Yikes! My wife  that place! We go there everytime we visit.. say it ain't so!

I'm so sorry to hear this happened to you. Like others said, I hope this was just a one time incident. Being I don't live close to the Orlando area, or close to the East Coast for that matter, I really don't get to frequent that Margaritaville too often. My family loves that place. We usually frequent the Las Vegas location as we live closer to there; and we always get good service, huge portions and great food. We've only been to Orlando a couple of times and both times we've made it a point to go there. Margaritaville and Hard Rock Cafe are our 2 favorite places to eat at while we're visiting US/IOA. Both times we went the food and service were good. We're planning on going back next year in October. I hope service has improved by then. I can't believe they only offered a discount. I would call and see if the company has a main headquarters somewhere and complain to them. I feel bad you had that experience and it ruined your liking for that place. I hope when we go back next year, things have improved.

If anyone goes between now and then, I hope they can let me know if things have improved. It would be a real bummer to miss out on one of our favorites.
