What goes on during Halloween cruise?

Honestly, we had booked our Sept 3rd cruise this year last March 2015 (so 1 1/2 years early). We booked it since it was when school started back up so it was within our budget AND we thought it was early enough cruise to avoid Halloween. We do not celebrate Halloween either and at least they offered to change your booking. We were offered to change but at the prevailing price for our choice cruise - which after a year obviously all cruises went up in price. After talking to everyone in our cruise group, we are sticking with this cruise as I keep reading its not in your face type celebration. During the atrium festivities we will just go enjoy the aquaduct etc. No biggie for us. DD freaks at costumes that arent princess characters and mickey and minnie - and then again, sometimes with them (not the reason we dont celebrate) so unfortunately we really need to watch where we go during the one day they have festivities. It is what it is and we are just going to go with the flow and just stick to pools etc that evening.

omg how can halloween ruin your vacation? my daughter was born on halloween - huge day and holiday for us.

As another cruiser who doesn't like Halloween and stays away from any and all festivities, I don't think that anyone said that Halloween was going to "ruin" their vacation. They're saying that, had they known it was going to be a Halloween on the high seas cruise, they would've booked a different sailing.

I'm booked on the October 22nd cruise out of New York City this year. I booked it because we did the same itinerary in May 2012. That cruise was so much fun. I didn't have Halloween on my mind at all; I totally wasn't thinking about Halloween. We've considered cancelling it, but found out that it wasn't really an "in your face" theme, and since we love everything else about this cruise, we're keeping it!

I think your response is somewhat rude, though. A lot of people do not like Halloween and the history behind it, so it's not to shocking to read that some people may not want to sail on a Halloween themed cruise.

Having said that, I'm very happy for you and it's totally understandable why October 31st is a special day for your family. :)

There are some people who do not appreciate the symbolism that Halloween brings. Not saying this is what original poster believes, as they stated it is not a discussion for this thread. But the holiday can include imagery of ghosts, ghouls, goblins, witches, and devils. It also can represent mischief, deceit, and debauchery.

Just like any holiday there are those who celebrate and those who do not.

If you read up on the history of Halloween, you may understand why some people may not want to take part in this holiday. Halloween may seem innocuous and quite secularized now, but that's not how it started.

I'm not anti-Halloween. We actually go to Disney World every September for the low crowds and they Halloween decorations are already up. But what I'm upset about is that I booked my cruise last November and it was not billed as a Halloween cruise. I checked in (90 days) on Sunday and it was not a Halloween cruise. I logged in yesterday to update daycare hours and now it's a Halloween cruise. It's just annoying to me that all of the sudden it has changed. I'm not changing my cruise, I'll get over it, but still... lame.

On that note, my friend has gone during Halloween cruises and said decorations are minimal.

I have to say a BIG THANKS because I was beginning to think I was losing my mind but if this happened to you also I know I am not. And we must be on the same cruise.

You're not crazy. I'm on the 9/10 Fantasy to Eastern Caribbean and it changed sometime between 3pm on June 12 and late morning on June 14. My thoughts on it are the ship may be somewhat empty and extending Halloween on the High Seas might entice more cruisers who like the themed cruises to book. It involves more money for Disney, so I could be right. Who knows? I'll just be annoyed about it and by September get over it.

Yep the 9/10 Eastern on Fantasy. I actually am over the themeing issue. Still upset over the lack of communication. But I guess no one else cares. Just something I have to get over.

I saw your other thread and commented. I am annoyed by the lack of communication too. I, 100%, understand that maybe they announced the Halloween dates in April 2016; however, I booked in November 2015 and wasn't researching at the time they must have made the announcement - so I missed it. None of my mailings or emails had "halloween" listed. I didn't miss any emails because I am not only getting mine but also my parents because I booked their stateroom and trip. I only just saw it when the title changed when I logged in.

Like I said in the other thread - this will be my 3rd September cruise on the Fantasy but I've never seen Halloween decorations.

I've done three Disney sailings in September-no decorations.

We are taking our 3rd September cruise on the Fantasy. Our previous sailings were September 2014 and 2015 in mid month and both were HOTHS theme as this one will be on September 24th.

I can understand your frustrations about booking and not knowing that it was Halloween themed. Please know that the decorations are minimal and the celebrations are kept to certain locations on the ship that are easy to avoid.
We don't enjoy Halloween either and don't participate in the costumes, parties or other activities. The decorations are not offensive in any way and the Halloween tree is rather cool, but again, not overly done and focused upon.

I hope you have a fantastic cruise !!
