on our last trip, sept. 2003, we did not make it to MGM until around 11:00 or so, so I don't know what goes on at opening. can someone please tell me? I'm debating on 2 different days to go to MGM, and we have early ADR"s for both of those days, and if i go with the 1st day, I will cancel that adr, but i really want to keep the adr for the other day, which would end up being our relaxing day with shopping, and etc.

so, please fill me in on what happens at opening. it would be greatly appreciated, and make planning a little easier on me.

thank you,

dina  17 days left to go!!

Nothing- I have been a few times now and they will let you through the turnstiles at about 10 minutes before opening just to bunch up again at the rope half way up the street.

Yep, that's it. We were there for the opening this past Saturday and that was all that happened.

Hey, be fair - the characters come out to greet you! :)

The character "greeting" at the opening of MGM is the smallest and briefest of any park (including AK). The mob then all heads for Sunset Ave.

i think they say "lights camera action' or something like that and i never saw any characters so there must not be many there.

Usually a line forms at the turnstyles. People get impatient as the opening hour nears. Then, the turnstyles turn green. People shuffle in line while they wait for people to figure out where to put their ticket and how to stick their hands in the reader. Then, once they get in, they walk very quickly or run down to Sunset and head right towards ToT and RnR.

It is a beautiful sight.

Ted

The only characters there on Saturday, were 2 bell hops to lead people to the Tower of Terror and 2 other workers to lead people to RNR.

There's a message played over the PA system, a family is selected to open the park and then there's the rope drop. Nothing particularly special.

In March of this year, we got there for opening, and I think they made some kind of announcement along with music. The characters were great! We got a family picture with Mickey and Pluto together, and then the kids got a photo with Minnie and Goofy together. Pooh and Tigger were in another corner together.

We were there for Star Wars Weejend and there were storm troopers walking across the top of the entrance and they made some big announcement about it being str wars. Peple were cheering and everything. I thought it was cute since DS and DD are Star Wars fans and they were screaming along with the best of them :rotfl:

Something along the lines of "Welcome to the Disney-MGM Studios! Blah, blah, blah" Nothing remarkably interesting. And it's quite short.

where do they say something about lights camera action..figuring it's gotta be MGM and i remember the voice ( i thought ) from the guy that does the welcome spiel...maybe it's from one of my "disney dreams" ;)

Compared to what goes on at the MK, AK and Epcot, it's really cheap. A car pulls up with a few characters (Mickey and Minnie if I recall correctly), while a 1930's-style photographer dances around like he's taking pictures of them. There's then some sort of abrupt welcome over the PA, which people ignore while waiting to storm towards Rock n' Rollercoaster and the Tower of Terror. :rolleyes2

I agree. I wish they'd do something similar to what they do at Walt Disney Studios in Paris....you enter the park on a "red carpet" and when the rope drops, a whole bunch of CMs are standing on either side clapping, as if YOU were the big movie star! Fun!

Wow...I go every February and I worked in the park for a year and I always saw characters stay out there for a long time...it's sad that they changed that :(

We were the opening famly Aug. 22, '05. I didn't see any characters.
We were brought in the park ahead of everyone, had our pictures taken, we were introduced to the crowd. and then my ds got to slam down the movie making clapper thing after the crowd said LIghts, camera, action. WE had a great time, but it was probably pretty boring for everyone else. LOL :confused3
