that I should be aware of before booking a trip during that time? We would most likely be a DL only on weekdays but not totally sure.

Also, will all rides be up and running during that time?

Thanks for any help!

Pluses:

-NO or minimal crowds
-Beautiful decorations
-Haunted Mansion Holiday & IASWH should be up
-Good hotel rates and easier to book good rooms at resort hotels

Minuses:

-A couple rides may be down (Matterhorn usually is down sometime around then)
-Short park hours
-During the weekdays certain entertainment performances will not be shown

The first weekend of Dec. is traditionally when the Candlelight Procesional is held. This brings in large crowds on the performance days (Sat and Sun).

You may also hit Cast Member Christmas Parties during your stay. They usually fall on weekdays (the first week of Dec) and the park closes earlier than normal.

Other than that, it's a great time to go. :thumbsup2

Thanks for all the info! :flower3: A couple more questions...

What time does the park usually close for the CM parties?

Do the DLR hotels usually have 4th night free?

I have read predictions that the CM parties will be on Dec 3 and 4 this year, with the park hard closing at 6pm.

The resort hotels have offered the 4th night free in the past, but as with all things disney, no guarantees it will be offered again this year. Hoping to see specials for fall announced sometime soon!

Yes, we usually go the second week to avoid the crowds of Candlelight, plus I think 8pm closing is early let alone 6pm. But if that is the only time you can go, you will have great decorations and entertainment and I think DCA is usually open later to make up for DL closing early.

The CP is only on the weekend, correct?

This is a tough decision. I really want the Matterhorn to be up and running and have normal park hours but I really don't want to deal with heavy crowds.

Hmmm...:confused3

The second full week of December is virtually no crowds at all! Matterhorn should be up by then (was last year) and we have gone three years at that time and had mostly walk ons with no shorter hours because the cast parties are over.

No one gets out for December break till the third week so the second week is perfect!! We are going again that week from the 10-13 like last year. If you have to go that first week though, rest assured it will be fine also. Candlelight is only on the weekend and if you don't mind the hours being shorter two days, you will have no problems at all!

I didn't mean to scare you, just was putting my vote in for 1 week later if you are able to do that!!

we are planning on going the second week in december the 9th thur the 14th.

In order to go the second week of December, DH will have to take 3 days off work instead of 2. We may just have to bite the bullet and do it then.

Thanks for all the help! :)

We actually went this year during the week before Christmas and there were surprisingly small crowds. The waits on a Wednesday were around 25 minutes for major attractions (except a 40 minute wait for Peter Pan in the afternoon) at both DL and DCA. The parks were also open until 12:00 so later in the day the crowds were even smaller. I think I got 25-30 rides in one day! You can look up my TR if you want. It was great! I'd expect earlier December to be even better (crowdwise) with shorter hours

We were there in Dec 03, during CP weekend. We did not have a problem with crowds. One nice thing, is many people will spend time watching the show, and eating the meal that is required in order to purchase ticket to cp, so they are not on rides during that time. I would not hesitate to go during that time again.

I went this last christmas season at the first week of dec. and it was perfect...very cold and windy but zero crowds until that friday then it was packed...I was there the whole week....I did the fantasmic riverside seating on the first sunday and the snow came right down on us:cloud9: and I got to see the fireworks from there...it was great!! I had a blast!! do it do it do it:yay: :yay: :rotfl:

I'm hoping to go in early December as well. I have every Friday of from school (college is cool like that). I'll finally have my license, so I can drive myself over there. Perhaps I'll take my little sister out of school to join me. I'm a bad big sister aren't I? ;)
