That people cannot spell, and it is really annoying!!!

The spelling mistakes on FB are atrocious. I mostly noticed them in the quizzes that are made up by other members. I "assume" they are teenagers, and that makes me sad. I guess it would be sadder if it were adults making these mistakes. (I am sure some of them are adults)

I work with teenagers, and I have a few co-workers on my friends list. Plus my own nieces and nephews, so I have enough teens on my friends list to know that this is a HUGE problem. One co-worker is in her 20's and she can't spell even the most basic words. I want to pull my hair out and scream.

My niece took a quiz that was riddled with spelling mistakes. So I commented on her results. I made a joke about the spelling, and she posted back, joking about the spelling, yet her spelling was just as bad.

I would like to live in a box, where I can't see the whole world, and how "dumbed-down" we really have become.

its facebook, becauce i type fast and it has problems keeping up with me and will "type" keys i never even touched

No, I'm sorry, this goes way beyond just typos. You can tell, it's like people are "sounding" out the word to spell it.

and that I do not wish to be friends with co-workers or supervisors!! Also, please remember that English is not everyone primary language, actually where I live it is usually the fourth or fifth language they speak! a little cultural sensitivity goes a long way!

Isn't that the truth! I made the mistake of allowing my boss to be my friend. We are friends outside of work. I have posted innocent, discreet status updates about soemthing that happened during my shift, and he has asked me not to post about work. Not anything bad, just passing on something I found amusing. My FB page is private, so the only people that can read what I post are the people on my friends list. I don't even have it opened to my network.

What really irks me, is he does not interact at all on FB. He never posts anything on anyone's wall, he never comments on a status update, and he does not post his own status updates. So, he has FB just so he can see what all his workers are posting. I keep telling him I am going to unfriend him, and I just may do that someday.

or my own parents.....NO THANK YOU!

OMG! My son has a FB account, I am on his friends list. But, I have vowed I will never "speak" to him about anything through FB.

My sister is friends with her son who is going to be 18 in Dec. I am on both friends list. So I can see the interaction between the two. She is really bad, she confronts him about what he posts on FB, on his wall. It's really sad that she is putting it all out there, for all his friends to see. It's disgusting really. If I were him, I would take her off my friends list so fast, it wouldn't be funny.

Some people just can't spell. I don't think it has anything to do with the "dumbing down" of society and it bothers me that people are judged by it.

My brother worked his tail off in school. My parents would sit for hours with him studying and doing schoolwork. After watching that and after a lot of the education classes I took in college, I think spelling is not something you can truly learn.

Our language doesn't follow any rules. Spelling is pure memorization and some people just aren't good at that.

Don't unfriend him, since he'll notice that. Just go in and change the settings so he can't see your status updates. He'll think you're not posting any. I've got a few people like that on my list. People I felt obligated to friend, but didn't really want them to know my business.

I've also started regularly deleting people that never interact with me. Particularly if I can see that they do interact with others.

Does the DIS have the same problem? Because it put a "c" where there should have been an "s" in "because" on your post. It also forgot to capitalize and punctuate where necessary in your entire post. ;)

Facebook has taught me.....that it is dangerous.

I do NOT have a facebook page, do not want a facebook page and will never have a facebook page HOWEVER all of my friend have pages. One friend posted pictures, another friend saw them and I got yelled at for not inviting her to the event where the pictures were taken. Okay, now normally I would say OKay she had her feelings hurt HOWEVER I wasn't even there. I was at the hospital with my grandma the whole day. How can I get yelled at for something I didn't do. She didn't say a word to the friend who posted the pictures. Friend #2 just ASSUMED I was there and won't even talk to me now.

Becareful with facebook. It can destroy friendships:sad2:

So he/she posted a note on how it was unnecessary to criticize spelling and typos, and then you post and criticize their spelling :confused3

Someone with a less stable internet connection might not have all their keystrokes captured. I find myself making more and more typos as my arthritis becoes more severe.

One of the cardinal rules when the internet first began, was to not criticize another party's spelling or grammar. You could be conversing with someone who spoke six languages, and had a double doctorate. Is it really that important, that they haven't mastered English yet?

Facebook and messageboards are for casual conversations, no proofreading is necessary.

I have a couple of my nephews and niece on my FB account and I told them I would not rat fink them out to their parents. What I failed to do was tell them not to rat fink ME out to the rest of the family!!!

Soooooooooo everyone learned I got a job, before we announced it. And it just dawned on me, they know about my October trip too.

I guess I need to have a talk with them... What happens on FB stays on FB :lmao:

Facebook has taught me, I don't want to be on it right now. Sounds like work.

The only lure for me would be the game that people talk about playing called "Farmtown".

Facebook has taught me that the people I really liked when I was young are still exactly the same people they were back then and I still like them. It has also taught me that the people I couldn't stand back then are still exactly the same people they were back then. Sure, age softens the face but deep down, we never really change.

Mystery machine, Farm town is AWESOME! It's my silly little vice and I refuse to give it up ; )

That is not a facebook problem that is a FRIEND who has a maturity problem and you are better off without someone in your life who wont listen to what you have to say.
Facebook didn't destroy your friendship.. your friend did.

How do you do it to just one person?

How do you do it to just one person?

Go to settings at top of page. Go to privacy, then got to profile, then from that page you can control what all can see. Go to status and links.. hit customize and add his name as someone to block from seeing your status etc .

Facebook has taught me that I'm really glad I'm not a 12 year old girl. I'm friends with an old neighbor and she and her friends fight like crazy of facebook.

#1) She posted that the problem was with Facebook itself, but her post here on the DIS was riddled with errors. She said nothing about it being unnecessary to criticize.

#2) I don't see how the internet connection would have anything to do with it since your message isn't relayed until AFTER you type it and click SUBMIT.

#3) I've been on the internet since 1992 and I've never seen a copy of the Cardinal Rules. ;)

#4) I ended my post with a winking emoticon, meaning my post was done TONGUE IN CHEEK.

#5) You have arthritis (and I'm not making fun of that, honestly), but I have a big hairy cat butt laying across my arms while I type. I still make the effort to read before I click and edit where necessary. :cat:

All kidding aside, I've noticed that many people have taken texting shorthand to other forms of communication and I think it's horrible. It's bad enough when I see it on message boards, but I recently saw it in an email at work!! :scared1:
