What exactly is the issue with the water at Disney?

I keep reading how awful it is - does it just taste bad? Or is there a health issue with it? I'm planning on bringing the travel Crystal Lights but will we end up regretting drinking the water at the parks?

No health issue with the water. Many find it perfectly fine for drinking. Others have a problem with the smell.

Actually this topic goes WAY back......back to 2001, when the area of WDW was in the drought stage and wells were getting low. There was alot of testing done and although the sulphur level can be (at times) high , it has been found to be safe for consumption. Some dont react well to the high level of sulphur, others find it ok.
If you have a concern already, play it safe . If your driving grab a case or two from home, if your flying, stop and grab some. The bottled water in the parks is expensive.

I'd read all about the water before I went last month, so I was actually trying to determine if it was OK to drink or not, and I didn't notice anything and drank it all week (it's about the only thing my family drinks!).

Keep in mind two competing facts about me:
* I spent the first 28 years of my life in a big city drinking big city tap water, so maybe my senses are dulled.

* where I live now, the water is so pure that it only has to go through two sets of treatments instead of the standard 7 or 8 (or something like that) that almost all other municipal water sources have to go through, plus our water is not fluoridated.

Based on the very strong opinions on both sides that I've been reading about for months, all of those stated opinions, mine included, won't mean squat -- you won't know if you'll like it until you try it.

Once I switched to bottles I was okay. So any future trips to WDW, I will skip the fountain and stick to the bottles.

The bottled water in the parks is expensive.

A small bit of good news to those who may not have been at WDW in the last year, but the price on 24oz bottles was reduced from $ 2.50 to $2.00 and the smaller 12oz bottles are now being offered at $ 1.25 (I believe).

I agree with you - I have a very sensitive stomach. Dasini is on sale at Walmart - you can get a case for $4.88 - considering how much you have to pay for the same in the parks.

DH HATES the water in Florida. I can live with it - frankly, I don't see the big deal with it, but everyone has different tastes.

For our upcoming trip, we are going to place an order with wegoshop and definitely order bottled water.

We just got back from a 8 night stay at WDW. I don't know if it was the food, the quantity of the food, the water or what but I was sick almost every night. My DD had stomach problems too.

Last year when we went we carried bottles of water w/us into every park and then would refill th bottles at night, put in the cooler so that the next morning they were nice and cold! We found some fountains had pretty good water and other fountains had crudy water. The best was in Epcot next to Test Track and at MK near Haunted Mansion. After drinking water in Panama City Beach, FL Disney's water is pretty darn good!! We ALWAYS buy bottled water there.

It has a smell and a bad taste...we always buy gallons of bottled water to make coffee with at the timeshares we stay at and buy individual bottles to take in the parks..not much you can do about the ice in drinks you buy but sometimes a strong enough drink can cover it somewhat

Taking a shower with the water is not so lovely either..although some places must have some kind of filters because they are not as bad as others

My hubby and I bought some bottled water on day 1 of our last trip. We were parched and I had brought some of those Crystal Light packets of lemonade and raspberry ice. It was delish. We took the bottles back with us to the resort, washed them out and refilled them w/ tap. The Crystal Light really helps mask the taste.

Those packets are especially nice when you are in the park and have a hankering (Sorry, I'm Southern) for some ice cold lemonade. Buy a bottled water and there you go! The packets were very new when we went so they only had those 2 flavors. Now they have tea, peach tea, sunrise orange, fruit punch, and others. I highly recommend them.

We have no problem with the water at Disney. Although we are probably just used to it. We have noticed that when we travel to different states, their water tastes strange. It all depends on what you are accustomed to and how much you can tell the difference.

The small drink mixes are nice and can help give variety to just drinking plain water. DS loves the lemonade packets although sometimes they are a little strong for his taste.
