What exactly is a beignet?

I've seen pictures of the beignets at POFQ and they look wonderful. Could someone please describe them to me. I can see that they look like they are covered in powdered sugar, but what is in the inside of them? Are they served warm?

its like a puff dough type thingie....like a light donut material and then fried.....and coated with powdered sugar and then eaten warm hopefully.....they are so good and soooooo messy.....

Beignets are heaven at WDW!!! They are small puffed fried doughs, light and airy, with powdered sugar on top. Although they are fried, they are not greasy or heavy at all. Yes, they get a little messy with the powdered sugar, but TOTALLY worth it!! They are very addicting though. These ended up being a must for me every day!! It's one of the things I'm looking forward to at my upcoming stay at POFQ!!

I don't know about other places in WDW to get beignets...But if you are ever in New Orleans go to Cafe Du Monde!

I don't think so. They are very common in New Orleans (Cafe du Mode - now I'm drooling) so that's why they are in French Quarter.

It's not the same but a substitution could be the funnel cake in America at Epcot. Different batter, different shape (the batter is fed through a funnel into a circle). But fried dough with powered sugar on top of it. The funnel cake can also have a fruit topping on it. You would NEVER put fruit on a beignet.

When we were in Port Orleans when it was Port Orleans PERIOD......we bought a box of the Beignet mix. It was from cafe Du Monde ....of course it was NOTHING like getting them already made for you.......have fun when you go and eat one for me...

When I stayed at FQ in Feb..I went to try one as I heard all about them on the Dis. It was in the afternoon so it was not busy and the nice lady cooked just one for me to try. Needless to say I ate a whole order myself and had some everyday. I even stopped on my way to check out to get my final fill up!!! You will love them but get alot of napkins and don't inhale when you take a bite.
