What exactly DID you do at Disney? May 2011 TR (TR link pg 44)

After our awesome breakfast at TH we headed straight for the Safari. We had waited too long to leave TH and the massive crowds from park opening was heading for KS. We jumped right in and still didn’t really have a wait.

I took a few pictures, but DH recorded the whole thing so I didn’t bother taking pictures of everything. The safari was great and we saw lots of animals.

After KS we headed right over to EE. There was no wait. Last year Caitlin was all about getting on any fast ride she could. This year she did not want to go on EE again. She said she was afraid of the Yeti. We knew she loved it last year so we convinced her to try it. I rode with her and she had a death grip on my arm the whole ride.

Since there was no wait when we got off DH wanted to go back on again. Caitlin wanted nothing to do with it. DH went to ride again while Caitlin and I took a little break. It was already extremely hot so we went looking for something to drink. We couldn’t find anything open for a drink but we did find a cart that sold the misting fans, so I bought Caitlin one of those.

Once we met up with DH we went back to check out the tigers.

Once again all of the tigers were lying down. I can never get a picture of them moving at all.


After checking out the tigers we didn’t really know what we wanted to do. I really wanted to ride Kali (I had picked up some fast passes right after we got the misting fan) but while we were over there we noticed that everyone coming off was completely soaked. It was the perfect day to get wet since it was so hot but no one felt like walking around in wet clothes so early in the morning.


We sat down and studied the map and tried to decide what to do.

It was pretty early, maybe 10am and DH was already tired of being at AK. Caitlin seemed to be enjoying it but was soon whining that she was hungry. I was annoyed about that. We had just left TH like an hour ago. She had eaten a little bit, but I should have made her eat more. I refused to buy her something. I told her if she was hungry we could stop at the fruit stand and get some fruit. No, she didn’t want any.


I really wanted to catch FOTKL or Nemo and they were going to start soon so I said we should start walking towards the front of the park and depending on the time we would go see one.

We passes It’s a Bugs Life and since Caitlin hadn’t seen it yet we decided to see it.

After the show we were closer to the Nemo start time so we headed that way. Caitlin was still whining that she was hungry so when we passed a place that sold hot dogs and fries DH offered to buy her some. No, she didn’t want a hot dog. Okay then.


Once we hit Nemo, she was so hungry that she did want a hot dog and fries. Too bad she missed her chance. She was not happy that we refused to go back and get it. She was mad, DH was unhappy and they were even starting to bring me down.

DH didn’t really want to see Nemo but figured he could at least relax and take a break. Unfortunately the seats were very comfortable for him to relax and he ended up hating the show. I guess he doesn’t really like the movie to begin with and he said if he wanted to see the story he would rather just watch the movie than sit through this show. Of course now he refused to see the FOTLK which is the one I really wanted to see.


After Nemo DH was in a very bad mood. Caitlin was still insisting that she wanted something to eat. It was sometime before noon so I was fine with finding her something to eat. I wanted to get her a small kids meal somewhere b/c we still had a 2pm adr at RFC. DH wanted to leave.

It was approaching 12 and DH wanted leave. I had a bit of a temper tantrum, I admit it. We had really done nothing. I had planned on spending the day at AK and really trying to see as much as possible and hoping make it to see the parade. I couldn’t believe he wanted to leave. I was mad.

Caitlin was up for staying as long as we got some food, but I didn’t want to split up again. Looking back I should we should have just tried to go to RFC and move our time up but we decided to skip it. I don’t know why we didn’t just eat at a CS place and take a break and see what we could fit in afterwards, but we decided to leave. I was very annoyed, but was happy that DH agreed to go to Pop again for lunch.

We had taken the bus to AK so we would have to take the bus to Pop and then once we were done; grab a bus from Pop to AK, then AK to AKl. I was surprised that DH agreed but he did so we were off to Pop.
As we were leaving I saw a Photo pass guy and asked him if he had the Simba shot.

Looking back our AK day seemed to go all wrong. We did almost nothing I had wanted to do. I think I must have mentally blocked out most of the details of this day, but I don’t know why it went so wrong. I know the heat was a big factor, DH hating Nemo really pushed him over the edge and put him in a bad mood and Caitlin’s need to eat 2 minutes after breakfast, but not wanting what we offered all combined and made it a bad day. I don’t know why I didn’t send DH back to AKL and just grab lunch with Caitlin. She was still up for FOTLK and going on more rides. I guess I was just too aggravated and hot.

Once we got to the bus stop we got right on a bus to Pop. DH had another burger, Caitlin had some chicken tenders, and I had the alfredo chicken with penne. Yum. I love Everything Pop. DH surprisingly really liked Pop. He said it looked very fun and wouldn’t mind staying there for a few days next time.

After lunch I wanted to check out the 80’s building so we made the short walk over.

Once we were done checking out our future resort, we walked to the bus stop and waited for the AK bus. The ride wasn’t too long and I might have thought in my head that it would be great to go back to the park, but I kept it too myself. I gave up on AK for today.

When we stepped off the bus the AKL bus was already there so we raced on it. We were back at AKL in no time. DH and DD were headed for the pool while I stayed in the room for some alone time. We were also moving to the BC the next day so I might have packed a little.


After an hour or so I went down to the pool to check on them. I took a few pictures out of the windows on my walk down.

The pool looked very refreshing but I just didn’t really feel like getting wet and having to shower and get dressed before we headed to DTD that night so I relaxed on a pool chair. I tried to take a nap, but couldn’t fall asleep.

Yep,it was the day of misery- Thursday. I wish the weather had stayed the same all week, the beginning of the week was perfect. I was hot and miserable too, but I still wanted to spend some time at the parks.

I am so jealous you are going in Sept. I priced out a few weekends in Sept. and Oct for Caitlin and I, but DH shot it down. He doesn't support mother/daughter trips b/c he will be left out, but he doesn't want to go I just don't know how someone refused to go on an all expense paid trip

Girl, I am with you 100%. My husband threw a tizzy when I told him we were going to go back again so soon for just a Mommy-Daughter weekend. ( I think because he feels left out too, but he said it was a money factor.) I stood my ground and said that I don't say a word about how much money he spends on his Jeep, and that what I do with my money is my choice. He had to conceed after that, LOL.

It's a rock and a hard place with a non-Disney loving DH. I totally get it.

Diane, I'm sorry you didn't get to do as much as you wanted to at AK. I would have been so frustrated. I really think you need to take a solo trip so you can enjoy the parks and doing what you would like to do.

I'm sorry your day at AK did not go as you had hoped. But, I'm glad that you got your lunch of choice. Can't wait to see what you thought of the BC resort. One of my best friends from high school always stays at POP with her husband & their kids. She says they all love it. I wouldn't mind giving it a try, but I don't think Ed would go for staying at a value again after our stay at All-Star Sports this past December.

We had to push Sept. back to Oct. due to a timing snafu. But due to your glowing recomendations from the food court snd your pics we are staying at the Pop from Oct. 22nd-26th.

You and Caitlyn should totally come down and join us, we could do the haunted carriage ride at Ft. Wilderness! The total package with quick service dining was like $550.

I'm sorry to hear that the Nemo show ended your AK day. It is always on my to-do list and never gets done.

It did look like you had a really nice Safari. Too bad the good start to the day didn't continue.

I am glad that your DH said that POP would be an option for your future. It is easier to save for a value resort than all deluxe.

Part of me wants to push DH to give into another weekend trip, but part of me remembers that I did promise not to try to get in another trip for a few years.

I am going to wait until the end of the month when I have a better idea of how much money I would have before Oct. and then decide if I really want to push the issue.

At least you got a few things done and you know you will be going back someday.

Yep, we crossed about 1 thing off my to do list. I can't wait to go back and actually get some stuff done. I think I learned a lot on this trip and have a feeling whenever we go back it will go a bit better, even if it means DH and DD hit a waterpark while I go to Epcot.

DH has actually agreed that I should just go on a solo trip so that I can do everything that I want to do. I just can't imagine going to WDW without Caitlin. who really wants to go back. I really want to see either the Halloween or xmas decorations and she does too. I don't think I would be happy seeing all that without her. DH is not thrilled with the idea of a mother daughter trip, but we'll see what happens. He might just get tired of hearing about it and agree.

I really want to try Pop for a few days. I am not sure we would do a whole stay there since everyone needs a waterslide (which they always insist on and then actually use maybe once) and I would rather have queen beds, but it looks fun for a few days.

Sports doesn't really appeal to me. Movies looks cute too, but I liked the old room decor better.

AK was SO HOT!!!! I could understand everyone being miserable so I didn't stay mad too long, but I did have a bit of a tantrum. This was the one park I really wanted to explore and getting nothing done was kind of annoying. From now on I need to move AK to the beginning of the trip so we can go back if we miss anything.

DH is so strange. How can a little show about Nemo ruin your whole AK day I didn't love the show as much as I thought I would but it was okay.

The safari was great. We tried to get back again but the wait was too long later.

I thought DH would hate Pop so I switched to VWL. He didn't like WL at all, but liked Pop. I also thought he would hate Yacht Club since people say it is stuffy and he really liked it when we went to eat there. I just can't figure him out sometimes.

We were there Thursday. The heat was a huge factor in the day going bad. If it was nice like early in the week we most likely would have made it the whole day there.

I would casually throw out the next time scenarios and DH never said there would be no next time. I guess he realizes his future of Disney trips

Oh no, your DH hates LK? DH has stated he will sit out any shows at AK from now on. I forced him to see the Beauty and the Beast show the next day at HS and he didn't mind it.

After doing our AK update the other day I was feeling a bit annoyed. DH happened to call from work around that time and I started talking about going on another trip, just for a weekend in October. DH refuses to go and although I really want the three of us to do the Halloween party together, I said Caitlin and I could just go. No, he doesn’t think it is fair that Caitlin and I would be at Disney while he is home working. BUT YOU DON’T WANT TO GO!!!


After a long day of discussing it he agreed, but under a bunch of conditions. Part of me wants to book it right away since he agreed, but another part wonders if maybe I pushed too hard and it will all end badly. I’m going to give it a few weeks before I book anything b/c I really need to think it through. Maybe I would be better off just waiting until next year. DH has agreed that I could take Caitlin in 2012 since it is a year away.


A huge factor that comes into play is that Caitlin has suddenly become very into Disney stuff lately, especially princesses (2 months 2 late of course).

She is constantly watching Little Mermaid and the Princess sing along videos. She wants to be Ariel for Halloween again. She even asked to paint her blue room with SW characters pink and replace the wall clings with princess ones. I think the weekend would be so fun and while talking about it with Caitlin she wants to go to Akershus and Park Fare.

On the other hand I moved our original Oct. 2011 trip to May so she could go to SWW and by the time it rolled around she was over SW.

We would most likely go Oct 21/22 to Oct 24. Not sure if we would leave Fri or Sat. I am going to give it a few weeks and see what happens. At least DH has agreed to 2012 which is much sooner than 2014.



The rest of our day Thursday was pretty boring. After our night in DTD the previous night it was agreed that we would return on Thurs and I could have some time alone to shop. After pool time we headed over to DTD around dinner time.

DH and DD were headed to the movies to see Thor.

I was ready for some shopping. I checked out WOD, Tren-d, the kitchen place, and Miss Matched all on my own. It was so much easier shopping with no time constraints.

I didn’t really end up buying too much. I did get a bunch of stuff for the kitchen at the kitchen store.

I also came across these sunglasses that I thought about buying.

It was now dinner time. I had one place in mind.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! It was closed.


How can I call myself a Diser and not know WPE was closed during our trip.
I was bummed. Now what? I checked out EOS and Cookes of Dublin. They looked good but I wasn’t in the mood for anything heavy b/c of the heat. I thought about heading back to AKL and trying Sanaa or Jiko, but I thought Caitlin would like Sanaa and I didn’t bring anything to wear to Jiko.
I decided to just head back to AKL and decide when I got there. I found the bus stop and was quickly on my way.

Once I got back I headed to Mara. The line was a bit long and there was nothing I really wanted.

I decided to just grab something light.

I might have also had a piece of the leftover pizza from Pop.

I spent some time on the balcony .

There was a family on the balcony next door that must have just arrived. The kids were so cute and kept talking about how great AKL was and that it was the best place ever!!

I ended up doing some laundry that night. I split the laundry between two machines, but it still took FOREVER. It took me over 2 hours to wash and dry everything. If I had known it would have taken so long I would have just skipped it. I ended up getting a blister from walking back and forth between the room and laundry room so many times.

DH and DD returned around 8 and we spent the night watching Harry Potter on abc family while I ran back and forth for the laundry.

P.S. Dining options for that weekend are pretty wide open too. I was able to get a Tusker House at 8:30am with no problem. Free dining ends Sept. 30th or whatever so October is looking way less crowded.

When are you doing the Halloween party and Park Fare?

I just checked our flight prices and they dropped today to $89 each way. I am considering just booking them and not mentioning it to DH.

We could always use them for a weekend getaway if Disney falls through.
