What exactly DID you do at Disney? May 2011 TR (TR link pg 44)

oh my goodness I cannot believe your DH ate that hot dog right before you were going to CP - that would've drove me crazy!!! Did he eat anything at CP?

How did I not go into the Main St. Confectionery this time. We ended up using snack credits at Main St. Bakery twice, I can't believe I forgot about the Confectionery, it looked better than what we got at the bakery!

Yay for winning $500, is your half going towards your solo Disney trip? ;)

MK day sounds good. Glad you got them to go on Snow White. I made my group go on it too, once they knew it was closing, they were fine. It is hard to walk around all day, I'm one to know that for a fact!! you need a girls' day or something next time, so you can do what YOU want to do!! I actually did that with Tyler the other day, he's been "disney'd out" and I've been bored at home, so I told him if we went, we would do what HE wanted to do, and we were standing around, so he could think of what he wanted to do next. I told him that it's not that easy figuring out a plan of attack is it? he always says I plan too much on our bigger staying over there trips LOL Now he sees WHY I do it!!!!

I can't wait to read more!!!!

Caitlin doesn't really have an interest in Cars so I won't have to see Cars 2. I am trying to limit the movies we go see in the theaters this summer so I am picking Harry Potter and Winnie the Pooh. The rest will all be rentals.

We hardly ever go to the movies - it's just so expensive. I love having Netflix though to watch movies at home.

I CAN NOT wait for Harry Potter. Grammy will definitely be babysitting Reid in July so Ed & I can go to the movies for that one!!!

ETA: Yay on DH's casino winnings & sharing with you!

I love CP and would go back for dinner sometime, but only if traveling with someone who actually eats at a buffet. DH doesn’t like buffets. He doesn’t understand how people go back over and over again. If you eat 1 plate of food at home for dinner, why would you need more on vacation?

I know people like this as well and I don't understand it. The point of a buffet, IMO, is not to get 5 plates of food (although a lot of people do this and waddle away!) but it is to try smaller portions of a wide array of options. DW and I ate at CP on our trip after Thanksgiving last year and really enjoyed all the different choices.

Was the first pic in this TR with the dolphins during this trip? We plan on going to Discovery Cove next May during our family trip. Enjoying your TR. Keep it coming.

Your day at MK sounds like it was really fun. I've never been on Splash Mountain, if you can believe it. It wasn't there when I was a kid and the first time, when it was just DH and I, it was too cold to risk getting soaked. This past year...well..I was never there at a good time when it seemed like getting that wet was a good idea. Oh, and the drop terrifies me! :rotfl: But I love BTMR!

What a fun day...well...except maybe the hot dog before dinner...tisk tsk! Ha!

We love CP! We haven't been for dinner yet....

My husband doesn't like buffets either. We don't normally eat at them at home, but Disney buffets are WAY different...fresh and always changing things out and adding fresh items.

We checked out the wait times for the 2 mountains. Big Thunder had a short wait and Splash Mountain had a long wait. I told DH to wait while I grabbed fast passes for Splash. When I came back he asked which one had a longer wait. As though I had no idea what I was doing when picking which one to wait for and which one to get the fast pass for. Really? Well, I know how much you love waiting in line so I grabbed a fast pass for the ride with a 5 minute wait and figured we could ride it after waiting in stand by for the ride with an hour wait. Seriously, what does he think I do on these boards all day?

:lmao: :rotfl: :lmao: When will these families learn? Let the DISers make the call!

I love that you convinced everyone to do Snow White and Haunted Mansion. My girls see the words "Scary" and "Haunted" and run far away!

I don't think I have ever been inside the confectionary. Something to add to my list for next time.

Your food at CP looked yummy. What a great variety of desserts! I *may* only eat one plate of food at home, but in a restaurant I might have an appetizer, a salad, an entree, and a dessert. Like you, I don't like my food getting all mixed together. So, yeah! I need 3 trips to the buffet (salad, entree, dessert).

I'm with you buffets are for sampling. Second plates are a must because I always try things that don't like on the first plate.
I can't wait for the Pooh movie either! Pooh is my ds's favorite character and it will be his first trip to the theater!

Laughing at DH for the hotdog! We had a few buffets adn all you can eats and we did not do the damage I planned. We werent even eating lunch and still, it was a shame. Even the dessert party:scared1:
WTH- that said party with the scared emotion guy, what happend lol?

CP for breakfast is the only character meal we have ever gone to. The food was really good, but it was worth it just to see my son interact with the characters. I warned my family ahead of time that I wasn't going to rush because the meal was for my son to have fun and they didn't say a word about rushing. I want to go back there again.

I'm glad that you stayed around for your ADR. Your daughter looks like she enjoyed her character time as well.

Grats to your DH! :woohoo: That's very nice of him to split it with you so you can save for your next trip! ;):banana::banana:

It was very sweet of him to split it with me:goodvibes I always feel like DH comes off as a bad guy on here, when it all others aspects of our lives we usually agree on most things. He just isn't into Disney. I can't say I understand it, but I am going to have to work on accepting it and alternating his vacation wants once in awhile.

:headache: He insisted he would be able to eat once we got to dinner. I think he had a small piece of pizza, a few bites of some chicken tenders and a tiny bowl of ice cream. His plate looked exactly like Caitlin's but with less food.:scared1:

I had a hard time finding the confectionery. I thought I knew what I was looking for but they are working on it so it was completely covered in those remodel coverings they use. I had given up, but once we sat down directly across it I found it:banana:

Unfortunately I just had a car repair bill for about $700 so the money will probably go towards that. But that is $250 that doesn't have to come out of the savings account, so in the end it all works out that he is giving me money for Disney. (Just don't tell him that:laughing:)

I hate the standing around, wondering what to do. Especially since I usually have a plan that has exactly what we would do and in what order for the rest of the day, but I really wanted to let Caitlin and DH decide on some things.

I am pretty bored right now, I wish I could just pop over to Disney.:)

We hardly ever go to the movies - it's just so expensive. I love having Netflix though to watch movies at home.

I CAN NOT wait for Harry Potter. Grammy will definitely be babysitting Reid in July so Ed & I can go to the movies for that one!!!

We usually don't go to the movies much either, especially since now we usually take Caitlin along and she is not able to sit through a movie without popcorn and a drink which bumps up the bill. We tend to go a bit more over the summer since so many good movies always come out but I am going to try to cut back this year. I have picked my two and anything they want to see is on them.

Caitlin insisted on coming in Nov. to see HP with us and whined from about 20 minutes in. She wants to come to see the new one too. It does look a lot more interesting, but I am going to be pretty annoyed if she ruins the last HP movie:mad:

I love buffets b/c I usually get to try stuff I don't at home. You can just imagine after seeing DH's and DD's dining habits how boring our dinners are at home. I have a list of about 5 dinner meals they will eat, anything else I have to make myself something different for the night.

I admit it.... although I don't stuff myself at the buffets I might have waddled away from 'Ohana:rolleyes1

Yep, we went to Discovery Cove this year. I am going to finish up Monday night today and our Discovery Cove day was Wed. Shouldn't be too much longer.

Discovery Cove is amazing. Your family will love it!

:scared1:I can't believe you haven't been on Splash Mountain. I didn't get too wet. The worst was that you sit down in the seats that are all wet so your behind gets wet. I was towards the front, and the people in the back got it much worse. You must ride it in July.

I have never been on Kali rapids in AK for the same reason. I swore this year we would make it. I even had fastpasses. Then, I saw that every single person coming off was completely soaked. Even with the hot temperatures I didn't want to walk around like that.

I am here...better late than never! I will catch up soon!!! :goodvibes

Glad your back.:cheer2: I can't wait to hear all about your trip. You always seem to hit the places and things I mean to do, but don't.

What a fun day...well...except maybe the hot dog before dinner...tisk tsk! Ha!

My husband doesn't like buffets either. We don't normally eat at them at home, but Disney buffets are WAY different...fresh and always changing things out and adding fresh items.

Every once in awhile I will take Caitlin out to the local buffet with my mom and aunt. DH came once since I think it was a bday or something, and he was just miserable. I have banned him from coming ever again.

I can't wait to go back to CP for breakfast. Nothing is better than the puffed french toast. I don't know what I was thinking going to CRT instead.:confused

:lmao: :rotfl: :lmao: When will these families learn? Let the DISers make the call!

I rarely made anyone do anything on this trip, but insisted we do Snow White and Haunted Mansion. I actually think Caitlin enjoyed HM. How could you not?

I don't know why DH questions things I say while at Disney. If he could just accept I know more about it than him and do what I say he would probably have a much better time.

CP was yummy. I wish I tried more, but there is always next time. I was so happy the food was hot and fresh. We went to Chef Mickey's for dinner and DH and DD ate pretty much nothing. All the items on the kids table like pizza and mac/cheese were cold and gross. I had some meat from the carving station and potatoes which were fine, but they weren't very happy. That is where we also had the cold Mickey ravioli. It was probably good hot but who knows.

I'm with you buffets are for sampling. Second plates are a must because I always try things that don't like on the first plate.
I can't wait for the Pooh movie either! Pooh is my ds's favorite character and it will be his first trip to the theater!

Aw, what a perfect 1st movie:lovestruc

I just love Winnie the Pooh and I am so happy Caitlin actually wants to see it.
Everytime she sees a commercial she calls me in the room. I can't wait, it looks very cute.

Laughing at DH for the hotdog! We had a few buffets adn all you can eats and we did not do the damage I planned. We werent even eating lunch and still, it was a shame. Even the dessert party:scared1:
WTH- that said party with the scared emotion guy, what happend lol?

I thought I would eat much more, but once you are there and you are hot or tired eating a bunch of food just doesn't appeal anymore.

I see party now. I hope the dessert party is still around next time we go. I really want to try it. I am sure DH will manage to eat a very large meal right before and not touch anything, but he said he would still like to do it so we don't have to sit around waiting for the fireworks.

I am very glad we stayed too. I really wanted to try CP for dinner and I knew this could be the last time we do the dxdp. No way I would pay almost $100 for what DH and DD ate. The food was pretty good and Caitlin seemed to enjoy seeing the characters. I don't care what anyone says next trip we are going back to CP for breakfast. I don't care if Caitlin is 15 and refuses to eat with characters. CP will be my 1 meal I insists on going to.

It seems like you guys had a great time at MK so far. Even if you did not get to do many rides. I do not mind seating and people watching sometimes.

I love the pictures inside Splash Mountain. It's been such a long time since I have last been in it...

And what's up with your husband eating right before going to an all you can eat? Counterproductive! :confused3 Good thing you kept your cool.... but hey he is on vacation so let him do whatever he wants, I guess!

My husband and I both love to eat and we have to keep an eye on each other if not we do over indulge way too often....

Have a good weekend!

I wish we had taken more pictures. They are usually the only family pictures we get. You are right, the more time in the parks the more pictures. Too bad there is no photopass person at the pool. We would have maxed that CD out!

We never even got our picture at DHS or Epcot:confused3

Don't feel bad--we never got any at Epcot or AK...*sigh* Oh well. Next time, Melissa, next time.

Once we returned to our resort Caitlin and DH hit the pool. I stayed behind for a bit to pack and reorganize everything for our move to AKL tomorrow. We never really unpacked so it never took me long to repack when we moved. I tried to make sure to kept everything we needed for the next morning out and pack the swimsuits in a place we could grab them if our room wasn’t ready until late.

Tonight was the night that I really wanted to see the MSEP and Wishes. I was also open to going to FW to see Chip and Dale and watch the movie on the beach. Once everyone returned from the pool it was agreed we would return to MK. I knew we should be there early to find a spot, but once again, what do I know about Disney. Everyone was showered, dressed and we were ready to go right?

Nope, now DH was hungry and insisted we stop at Roaring Forks to get some food. I was watching the minutes tick away and wondered how hard it would be to find a good spot for the parade. We stopped at RF where DH got a cheeseburger and fries that he split with Caitlin. I was ready for a snack and really wanted to grab some nachos, which I had heard they have at Casey’s to watch during the parade. If not a quick stop to the bakery or confectionery would do.

Of course since it was now dinner time Roaring Forks had a huge line and it seemed to take forever.

Doesn’t everyone look thrilled to be going back to MK??

After what seemed like forever we were on our way to MK. I don’t think we got there until about 8:15. The parade started at 9 and already the place was packed with people waiting. I had heard you wouldn’t need to wait more than an hour, but it seemed like people had been there much longer. DH overheard someone say they had staked a spot out for over 2hrs. I had no idea. I wanted to have at least an hour, maybe 70 minutes but there was no way I could have been there 2 hours early.

I checked the lines in some of the shops and they were very long so no nachos for me.

DisneyMay2011onSony300.jpg

We debated trying to squeeze in somewhere with a bad view or just wait until another night. I reluctantly agreed to wait until the last night to come back. I was ready to go back to WL and just watch whatever movie was on the beach but now DH and DD wanted to go on Space Mountain. So we fought our way through the crowds to Space Mountain.

DisneyMay2011onSony302.jpg

There was a 30 minute wait and they decided to wait. I was in a bit of a bad mood and decided I did not want to stand around for 30 minutes and decided to go find a snack while they rode SM.

I thought about what I wanted. Nachos were out since the line was too long, Dole Whips, Egg Rolls and Turkey Legs were too far away and I didn’t want to worry about making it back to find DH. Neither one of us had our cell phones on us for some reason this night so if we got separated there was no way to contact one another. I ended up getting a cream cheese pretzel.

DisneyMay2011onSony303.jpg

I wasn’t very impressed and it furthered my bad mood that things weren’t going the way I wanted.

After awhile they returned and we agreed to head back to the resort. We wanted to make it out before Wishes started. We started making our way up main St. as the parade was ending so everyone was heading towards the castle to see Wishes. All of Main St. was packed. DH grabbed Caitlin and I followed. Since DH is great at darting between people we got separated pretty quickly
.
Finally I saw that Caitlin was on DH’s shoulders so at least I could follow them from down the street. Once we got to the entrance I was able to run and catch up to them . I was not happy that DH had not once turned around to see if I was behind them .He said that Caitlin had told him I was close to them but I was nowhere near them. If I hadn’t been able to see Caitlin I would have had no idea if they went left or right at the end of Main St. Then, I would have sat around until MK cm’s kicked me out to wait b/c I would have assumed they were looking for me. I asked DH what he would have done if I didn’t catch up. They would have headed back to WL and assumed I would do the same. This night could have ended very badly. There is no way I would have known to go back to WL since I would have stayed at MK until I found them. Next time we don’t have cell phones we really need to make a plan in case we get separated.

We headed to the bus stop and the bus came quickly. I was surprised the bus was packed since I assumed most people would be staying for the fireworks.

Another night that I felt was kind of wasted. We didn’t see the parade or fireworks and we didn’t make it over to FW, which I really wanted to do since it is so convenient coming from WL. The whole situation with DH just going back to WL and assuming I would know to do that too really irritated me.
I decided to just let it go and look forward to the next day. We were checking in AKV which Caitlin had no idea about, heading to IOA which DH loves and finally going to WWOHP. It had to be a good day didn’t it?

Love the family picture in front of the castle!:thumbsup2

It seems like you guys had a great time at MK so far. Even if you did not get to do many rides. I do not mind seating and people watching sometimes.

I love the pictures inside Splash Mountain. It's been such a long time since I have last been in it...

And what's up with your husband eating right before going to an all you can eat? Counterproductive! :confused3 Good thing you kept your cool.... but hey he is on vacation so let him do whatever he wants, I guess!

Q

We managed to have a pretty good MK day. I hope once Caitin is older it we will get a bit more done. She did very good walking around but I understood that she was tired and didnt want to cross the park to go on another ride.

I have no idea what DH was thinking eating right before CP. I swear he does it to annoy me. From now on I will have to treat him like a child and make sure he eats lunch. On our 'Ohana day I would have had the same problem. He tried to skip lunch but I went and bought him and Caitlin some chicken tenders to split. That way he had eaten lunch earlier enough to actually enjoy 'Ohana.

Don't feel bad--we never got any at Epcot or AK...*sigh* Oh well. Next time, Melissa, next time.

I have been saying "Next time" an awful lot as I go through our trip. How will I ever be able to have a relaxed, unplanned trip if I need to fit so much in that we skip. We could just go every year, but DH won't agree to that.

I'm curious because I am never able to find them when I go but where did you get the cream cheese pretzel? Do you remember the name of the restaurant? I really want to try one next time I'm there.

That's really too bad about DH marching on through the crowd without even checking to see if you were still behind. :sad2: I hope IOA and Harry Potter go much better. It's something both DH and Caitlin will like so it must be good!

Somehow I got a few updates behind again.

Love the pictures of the walk on the dock to get to the boat to MK.

Your photopass pictures are really great (and it is so good to see you in somephotos, Diane). I also like the photo of you and Caitlin with the popcorn.

We are not fans of the lunch/dinner buffets at Crystal Palace, but your meal looks pretty darn good.

I'm sorry you didn't get to see the parade or Wishes. And I would have been furious too if my DH took off and didn't check to be sure I was nearby.
