What ever happened to River Country?

Boy I miss this one too.. It was so much more of a 'park' than most others feel today. I remember camping with the motorhome, and spending time here in the summer of 1980 (at 11). I remember the one area being sand bottomed and there being little fish. Not your normal concrete pools.

I also remember having a rough night sleeping after that (not due to going into MK, but due to a BAD sunburn.) I can't believe that MK was the ONLY park.. No wonder we had so much fun at the campground.:rotfl2:

But the day at River County actually stands out in my memory as much if not more than the time spent at MK at that time. Of course this is also the trip that we had to figure out what to spend our tickets on. The only givens were 20K leagues and Space mountain!

I wish I could just go walk around River Country one last time...while at Fort Wilderness I walked over to River Country and tried to peak in, but there is a huge green screen blocking the view. The only thing there is a small sign that says, "River Country is Closed." Very sad

I'm so sorry, I totally understand. A amusement park close to where we live closed down a couple years ago. I was fortunate enough to take my kids right before it closed and show them where Mama used to act silly as a teenager!
It was a great feeling to share that with them. It was very sad to see something you grew up with to go, but I will always have the memories!:)

went to River Country twice and I am not sorry to see it go...

Beach sand was dark and quite honestly it was not a great water park..

Water never looked clean and it really wasn't all that big.

I may be the minority but I am not sorry to see it gone.

and if it was still around and the other two water parks didn't exist, this entire website would be blasting about how horibble RC was

I e-mailed Disney about what ever happened to River Country and they never really answered the question. Heres what they said:

Dear Nicole,

Thank you for contacting the Walt Disney World Resort.

While we appreciate your interest, River Country is not scheduled to
reopen. We anticipate that Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon will be
able to meet guest demand for Walt Disney water parks again this year.
As always, we will continue to evaluate our product offerings in the
future to meet guest demand and uphold our commitment to providing
outstanding vacation experiences.

Hope you are planning to visit soon!

If you have questions or need further assistance, feel free to contact
us.

Please include your full name, E-Mail address, and reservation number if
applicable on all correspondence.

Thank you!

Sincerely,

Nancy Carpenter
