Hi everyone,

These boards have been SOOOO helpful for me :flower:

I was just wondering ~ I'm heading to HRH in May with my hubby and three kids (11,14,16)

With the parks closing at 7:00, I was wondering what else there may be to do in the area (offsite). I know we have Citywalk, but I don't want to go all the way to Florida to see a movie. My kids would have loved to see Nelly at HRL but ~ too late------Would have loved to see Fear factor live but ~ too early. We were not planning on going to WDW at all. Although, with no fireworks at Universal, is there anywhere to see Disney's fireworks.

Don't get me wrong ~ I'm thrilled I'm even just going ~ but would just like to know if anyone has any ideas on cool things to do just in case

Thanks in advance

You always go to Downtown Disney... lots of shopping and restaurants... no admission required.

The Dixie Stampede dinner show is nice if you can afford it. Use your AAA card to get a slight discount. Food is great.
Lots of animals to see, mostly horses. They have contests, north vs. south. You cheer for your side, and stomp your feet.

make a reservation for Chef Mickey's for dinner at the Contemporary hotel- awesome for the kids to spend time with some characters- then you can see the fireworks from the balconies at the hotel. It is a character priced dinner but well worth it and the fireworks are spectacular from that view!

We were just there for 7 nights and found things to do. We tend to go to bed on the early side (9:30 - 10ish), so we only had a few hours to fill up, but we seemed to be able to without leaving the Universal area. Even though the parks close at 7, there were nights we actually did not walk out of the park until 7:45. You could eat a late dinner. My kids loved City Walk. We checked out the other hotels. I know you can pool hop. The pools are great fun at night. I think you will be surprised at how much there is to do.

Try The Outta Control Magic show at Wonderworks. Very cheap with unlimited pizza and drinks. The most underated dinner show in Orlando. We have been twice now and on both occassion my kids got up on stage.

One of my favorite inexpensive evening activities is to go to the Polynesian and explore the beautiful hotel and grounds. Then head to the beach (at the Poly) to watch the fireworks (MK) and the Electric Water Parade - just check on times for both. I know some people don't agree that you shouldn't use the beach if you're not staying at the hotel, but it's always empty at night, so it doesn't really affect anyone.
Our last trip we ate at Ohana at the Poly, which your kids might enjoy - all you can eat! We had a window seat and watched the fireworks from our table after dinner - they even pipe in the music.
Another suggestion is DisneyQuest - 4 or 5 floors of video games, simulators (design your own roller coaster, then ride it in a simulator), virtual reality games, etc.
CityWalk is also fun - they are performers on some kind of pogo-stick type shoes that are amazing to watch.
There are lots of great evening activities in the area. If you want to see fireworks, I'd recommend the Poly.

If you are a tourist spending money, I'm sure the hotels don't mind that you use the beach and pools.
What they're probably trying to keep out, is the locals who would show up for free.

I agree with going to bed early. Most of the time, my feet are tired after walking around the parks all day. I usually go back to my hotel room, have a few drinks from the cooler I stock, watch TV, and call it a night. That way I can get up early the next morning, which is the biggest advantage when visiting parks.

Thank you everyone

I feel alot better knowing what other options are out there just in case I need them.

I heard about the Poly's dinner with music for the fireworks. That sounds nice

Also, I read about the Wonderworks and thought that looked like a cool place to visit (my kids like laser tag)

I'M SO EXCITED !!!! :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

Has anyone tried the Skyventure place ~ It's a skydiving simulator (my daughter wants to skydive, but she's only 16 ~ you have to be 18)

Thank you and keep those ideas coming!
