Hey everyone again :goodvibes
It's been a while
It's quickly approaching that time of year where I go to WDW for my birthday once again (coincidence?) and this time I am going with my lovely newish boyfriend who has never left Europe never mind visited Disneyworld.
He has been watching me getting excited saying Disney in a variety of stupid voices and showing menu after menu to book ADR's and park days...so I'm determined to make him fall in love with it and enjoy as much as possible.
I have booked an airport hotel for the night before, a few ADR's (T-Rex, HOB, Crystal Palace & Restaurant Marrakesh) and we are on the QSDP staying at POFQ.
I have also made a packing list, bought train tickets, made a countdown and planned a few rides that are must dos.
He's a nervous flyer that has flown for a max of a couple of hours to Spain before so he is already worried about the long flight :sad2:
How can I reassure him flying across the Atlantic isn't that bad? What would you advise to show him first? First ride? First meet & greet?
I'm determined to turn him into a Disney addict as he insists it's an expensive once in a lifetime trip for himself... That's what we all say :rotfl:

Addition: He also really wants to go to a Wal-Mart for some reason... I think for the candy? Anyone know how much it would cost for a trip from Disney property to one? I know it seems a bit strange but I think he's more excited about seeing a Wal-Mart than Mickey Mouse... and we both work in supermarkets haha!

Wow your story sounds a lot like mine! I have bern several times whereas the other half has never been before! He's also never been out if Europe and is mostly looking toward to the long haul flight with virgin! Haha!

I went with my girlfriend in 2011. It was her first time in WDW and she didn't understand what all the fuss was about. I got her interested in planning and got her really excited. For a first timer it has to be rope drop at MK and then the walk down Main Street USA. The sights, the sounds, the smell of popcorn. It was a really special moment for us (Sounds cheesy I know!)

Needless to say we are counting down till October for 21 nights at SSR for our second trip together and she is more into the planning than me this time! We also agreed that we would do Disney every 5 years, but now she is talking about 2015 (not that I will have any problems with that ;-) )

Anyway, have a wonderful trip.

I know how you feel!! DH has never been to Disney before but I managed to talk him into a 3 week holiday but he is SOOOO unenthusiastic about the whole thing. The only thing he was vaguely interested in was choosing our ADRs :confused3 He did get a little excited about it when we researched places to eat but now we have our 3 weeks TS meals booked he has gone back to being Mr Unimpressed!!! I have tried everything to spark a little excitement in him but nothing so far has worked. I have decided just to leave him too it, I am pretty certain that the Disney magic will manage to ignite him when we get there!! It's so hard to deal with someone who isn't all excited about going! :rotfl:

I had to been to WDW before I met DH. The first time we went together was in 2008. He wasn't bothered about it at all and let me do all the planning etc. 5 years/4 trips later nothing has changed. He does love going to WDW/Orlando but just doesn't get excited before going. That is why I am so glad I found the DIS and made friends I can share my excitement with.

I wish mine would leave the planning to me! He wants to be involved with everything. I am used to planning by myself. :-)

Tom gets involved in certain things... he let me make the shortlist of menus and then we chose together, but he helped plan day to day stuff from the start. And i didnt even get a look in with the flights! Xx

Thanks everyone for the reassurance it's just not my other half with a lack of interest. On a brighter note our mickey mail came today and the sight of the pack has made him suddenly take interest. Yes, he has now started panicking about packing but I did remind him I packed for a 3 month round the world trip last year 5 hours before I left the country ;) Packing pro right here :rotfl: Getting excited now :cool1:

Stealing this idea for my oh so not very bothered mum!!!! She's not excited at all the only thing she's looking forward to is the flight with virgin???!!??
I've booked adrs I've booked photo pass plus and even a spa day in the grand Floridian and still She keeps saying "but like ill want to lie by the pool for the day and then do something in the evening"
ahhhhh she goes to lanzarote 3 times a year and has that type of holiday in her head......so frustrating when I've paid ¬3500!
I'm really hoping that the first walk down Main Street will change her mind otherwise ill basically be on a solo trip lol

My boyfriend is the same, he's only ever been on holiday in Europe. He's not impressed with how much this holiday has cost and really isn't excited at all apart from wanting to go to the waterparks! Still got 69 days to get him excited I guess!

My mum wanted to come! I said we'll go again so she can come along, so I have an excuse for a return trip! Just hope DBF enjoys this trip so I can persuade him to go again!

I reckon all our "doubting David's" will be blown away with the magic and totally fall in love with it.....how could you not!!!! Lol

I'm quite lucky as my DBF is super excited, he has been once before when he was younger but doesn't really remember much, have you shown him any YouTube videos? Steph and jeff are brilliant and I'm pretty sure they could convert anyone who isn't excited! They make it look soooooo fun! Just as it is :-) maybe you could try and persuade him to watch their videos or sit next to him whilst you watch it he may end up looking over your shoulder just as my DBF did and kept asking have they got anymore videos I want to see more!

Also as for fears of flying who are you flying with? My best flight I've ever had nerves wise was with virgin they had a thing you could listen to that helps nervous flyers relax, it worked for me and for the first time ever I had a small sleep on the way out and back! Also on virgin I felt the entertainment kept me hooked for plenty of time, i get extremely nervous and on numerous occasions I've got to get on the plane and freaked out nearly not going away! I'm terrible! The doctors will give diazepam for flights if your a nervous flyer so this could always be an option, I will be taking some night nurse capsules for the way home to make me sleep as this will make me sleep but doesn't make me feel as spaced out as diazepam, so there could be that option to! Me and my cousin got some travel games before we went! Had a laugh and it killed nearly 2 hours of time!

As for what to do when you are there I'd go with what others have said go to magic kingdom for the opening ceremony! That would be a pretty amazing start that is sure to get anyone happy and excited :-D
