What don't you love about the POLY?

We checked in last Oct..Room was dated,carpet was wet down near fridge,,hated the view..The QS had a revolting smell from under the coffee disposal..Staff though were lovely and moved us to the Beach Club ( full refund on room difference) ...Maybe we were really unlucky but i would be scared to try there again!!

We checked in for about 5 minutes and turned around and checked right back out for the same reasons just last week. Mattresses looked like cardboard, I was in shock at how thin they were for a supposed deluxe hotel. There was no way I could have slept on them, if I even wanted to stay in that room. Room was very dated and dirty looking, like an old roadside motel. Walked right over to the front desk and moved to GF. I think the management has to be poor for the room to be in that condition or they just don’t care because they know people will stay there anyway. I won’t be giving them another chance anytime soon. Not when I can stay at the GF for about the same price where the mattresses are 3x as thick and it actually looks nice and clean!

I am hoping that we will really be able to enjoy the Poly in December. I am worried about the crowds in latter December though. I just have to remember that I have been a "visiting guest" so many times before and not an actual guest, but got to enjoy the resort none the less on previous trips.

True what everyone says about lobby being so busy and chaotic. But that really has never bothered me (except on 4th of July!). The one thing I mark it down for is that the sink is inside the bathroom with the toilet and shower. With multiple people getting ready, I really like having the sink separate.

And I found the BC lobby mid day crowded. Every chair was taken by what I assume people coming to rest from Epcot. Those high chairs/couches in there need a good cleaning, the head spots are black.

As others have stated the rooms on the village side are worn and due for a refurb. Bummer to pay $450++ a night to stay in a room that just sort of feels dirty. I’m sure this isn’t the case in every room but it was for us.

The hustle and bustle is part of the fun but I do wish people paying to stay at Poly had first dibs on reservations or something. Staying there and not being able to get into Ohana or Trader Sam’s is a bummer.

I know I’m in the minority but I think the volcano is an eyesore

But it is a resort that feels like a vacation and I do recommend staying there at least once! The boat to MK, the walk to GF, dole whip at your fingertips ahhhh.

Not who you’re asking but I didn’t love the lapu lapu. Which killed me because I had been looking forward to it for months. The drink leaked everywhere and the flavor of the drink itself didn’t do much for me. Give me a frosty pineapple from the pool bar all day!

Staying there now. Beautiful hotel and very pleased but if I'm nitpicking it's the lack of places to hang things in the bathroom (towel hooks and something for swim wear) and the size and drink offerings at captain cooks. We were at the BC today and they have way more drink selection including iced coffee and flavored creamers.

The rooms have low ceilings.

I found the bathrooms to have a stale water smell.

Small, dated elevators.

We stayed two nights. I didn’t mind it, but probably wouldn’t book again unless it was the only dvc Room available for my nights. We routinely stay at AKL, which I love. Never stayed BC.

I am directionally challenged. Once you get past the main building there is no signage directing you to the different long house. The long house all look alike to me and I had a heck of a time finding my room during the day. I would not even chance it at night. Thankfully it was a one night stay after cruise. This was also before the bag checks getting to the monorail and then have to go through second check to enter park, not sure if I would want to bother with that either.

YES! We stayed at the BC first and at least there was the clothes line in the shower. But the bathroom was so small! Oh but the marketplace freestyle machine. At the Poly, the hook for the towel post shower was “around the corner”. I like to dry a little before getting out. We had everything on hangers.

I bet it’s hard not knowing. I feel like I grew up there and when they changed the names to the buildings some years ago it threw me for a loop.

We own DVC, so for us the fact that there are no 2BR units means no Poly stays for us.

The only thing I don't like (and for me, this is huge) is that the resort theming is very dark. I prefer lighter theming like at the GF. Darker theming makes it feel "dirty" for lack of a better term, though I don't think the Poly was dirty at all - it's just my perception of the darker theming.

I have constantly been wondering why I've been so reluctant to book the Poly even though DH is always pushing for it. I think that these two quotes sum up what I have only subconsciously noted: it's so much darker than other resorts and the lobby is so noisy and busy that it turns me off. Nevertheless, now that we are getting APs, I have agreed to stay at the Poly for at least one visit (our plan is to stay at all Deluxe hotels at least once even though we have our favourites). But I think I will do it on one of the shorter stays just in case I don't like it.

I have always wanted to book the Poly and at the last second have always changed my mind. Bearing in mind I have never stayed there in all my visits, my two off-putting factors are: the room colors seem SO dark and that really bums me out, and I feel like if I'm going to pay all that money, I would like inside hallways instead of having to run in downpours to my room. In May we stayed at CBR, first time since the refurb, and the darkness absolutely affected our trip, and in a negative way. It was also during that week or so that there were gloomy downpours all day, so coming back, soaking wet, to a dark room with dark clouds outside was almost depressing. I knew the rooms were darker post-refurb but we were really surprised at just how dark it seemed.

Although my love of Kona Cafe might eventually sway me....

There's really nothing wrong with it, just a little dark for my taste. I wasn't thrilled with the pool and I agree that the Lobby is always hectic.

We've only stayed there once, in a DVC studio, and we didn't enjoy it. As others have mentioned, the lobby is very busy and hectic. Not a relaxing place, but we've found that to be true at other popular deluxe resorts too. As far as the actual room, the beds were atrocious - very hard and uncomfortable. But that's a subjective thing as well. I personally like the theming and feeling of the resort, so the colors don't bother me. Plus, I love that it's one of the original WDW resorts. We're going to give it another try on the regular hotel side and see if the beds are any better.

My parents walked up to Kona with no adr and were seated no problem twice on our last visit.

As a DVC member, I haven't stayed in any of the regular rooms; I absolutely love the studios. The rain shower is awesome and enjoy the busy vibe of the resort. BUT, and here's where I get really petty, I detest the ridiculously small, slow and smelly elevators from the 1970s. I guess it's not an easy fix with the size of the elevator shafts and everything, but yeesh. If I had to pay the room rates non-DVC guests pay, I would be incredibly disappointed. Certainly not a luxurious experience by any means. Fortunately, since the buildings are just 3 floors I only deal with it on check in and check out day.

I know, I know, how petty. There is no way that would keep me from staying there, though.
