What does your kindergartner wear?

I think you can get by with inexpensive clothes from Target, and sales from Childrens Place, Old Navy, etc, and make a cute look with accessories like leggings & hairbows, headbands, etc. We mix and match a lot of our things. A denim skirt from Old navy, with leggings from walmart underneath, and a top w/ some matching colors from anywhere, add a colorful hairbow and wala!:thumbsup2 We do love the coordinated sets from Gymboree, Crazy 8 & Children's Place, bought on sale or w/ coupons/gymbucks. DD 10 is VERY into Justice, we stock up when it's 40% off. I love the trend of layering long sleeve shirts and leggings under t's and skirts - a great budget stretcher!

We do moslty Target and Children's Place on clearance. The brands don't seem to be a big deal here. My DD just started middle school and some of her friends are into the aero and AE stores, but so far, she really doesn't care and nobody else cares what she is wearing.

It's a nice mix here of kids who dress up and kids who dress in jeans and nice tops. My oldest DD7 dresses in all skirts and dresses because pants don't seem to fit her right and she hates how they look on her. Pants she'll wear in the winter are Yoga or track style Nike/Adidas. We buy her clothes from Justice, Target, Macy's and Younkers.

Our Kindergartener is dressing in almost all Gymboree with some Gap. She loves girly clothes, but she loves her jeans in the winter. So yes, she's dressing up this year, but might tone down a bit next year. Hair bows and funky stuff isn't as popular in 1st grade.

Wow!! DD is going into kindergarten, but will turn 6 11/1. She is wearing a size 6X and I think she is pretty average. Doesn't Justice start at a size 7?? Anyway....she is very particular about her clothes, but not brand. She mostly wears dresses. She only wears jeans when I force the issue because she doesn't have any tights or "bloomers" clean. (I buy the dance shorts from danskin for her to wear under her dresses) I dread having to start worrying about brands, etc. Right now I buy most of her clothes at Kohls, The Disney Store, or Target.

Justice starts at 6, but some of them (shirts) run small. Their pants are also long, so my DD's don't fit their pants yet. Maybe when my oldest is 8 she'll fit them in length. Right now they drag on the floor and she falls over them.

My Kindergartener doesn't wear that yet. I think the styles are too old, but maybe we'll do some mix next year if she grows a bit.

My DD5 is starting Kindergarten this year too!!! My Daughter is very into fashion and style... She told me she had to be FASHIONABLE!!! :) Thanks to the likes of Hannah Montana we like sprakles too... We got her clothes mainly at Gymboree, Justice (though I didnt really care for this store), Kohls, & Target. I get the basics at Target (like I got jeans on sale for $7 a pair vs $40+ at Justice EEEK) I really love Kohls and bought quiet a bit there. I think at this age comfort is a priority as well.... and when we tried on we had her sit down criss cross Apple Sauce to make sure it was doable!! :) Its a fun age though I think... Shes so excited about school - we start on August 20th....

My kids wear a lot of L.L. Bean, Lands End, and Childrens Place (mostly all bought during season closeout sales) and they fit in just fine, socially. There are a few girls here who dress (or whose mothers dress them) more dressy-dressy, but my DD likes to wear clothes that are comfortable.

DD5 loves Lands End and LL Bean knit dresses! But otherwise is happy wearing jeans/chinos and a tshirt (usually Disney or Lands End).

DS8 prefers to wear irreverent t-shirts. He is *known* at school for his t-shirts. He's got one that says "Homework causes Global Warning"; one that reads like it's from the teacher saying "We are studying the history of Video Games and your son needs to stay up all night playing video games to study for his test"; one that reads like it's a RX from the Dr. that says he's "Allergic to homework"; etc... I get most of them from Kohls and J.C. Penney.

Gymboree has an AMAZING sale that ends 8-16 everything is 10,15,20 bucks plus there are 20% of coupons out there. They also have plus and slim pants

Everything but the sweater I need to order tonight for my brothers wedding... LOL whats with that... HA HA HA

Thank goodness I have a son!!!! He wears whatever I give him, or if it has Pokemon on it!

My DD5 is going into Kindergarden but her preschool was very fashionable. She likes Justice, Gymboree, Children's Place (mostly jeans), Gap, Nautica, and some kids Guess and Calvin Klein. We also do some shopping at Macy's, they have some cute items also and we gets her purses there. I do Pj's and basic underwear/socks from Target and holiday shirts (like a JackoLantern shirt etc..)

My 6 yo is not into fashion at all. I get more of a kick out of shopping for her than she does. Seriously, she's the kid who would wear polka dot shorts with a striped top and round off the look with socks and sandals. :scared1:

She likes anything with a horse on it. I buy most of her clothes from Old Navy, Gap or (to a lesser extent) Gymboree. I'll buy Gymboree from the retail store, but get the other brands on eBay or a resale shop.

I think 6 is way too young to be judging people on their clothes. I know some girls can be snobby like that, but I'd hesitate before buying my DD clothes just so she can fit it. I know my DD's style can be a bit quirky, but it's HER style.

Sorry, I don't mean to come off as uncaring. We want our kids to fit in and it hurts when they're excluded. Does your school work with the kids on social skills? We're lucky in that my DD's school is very proactive in character development -- bullying is not tolerated at all. Excluding others for wearing the wrong brands would, in my book, qualify as bullying, especially in these times when families might be experiencing financial hardships.

Juliet - My DD and yours should get together! Totally into horses and pink, pink, pink! I figure so long as she smells and looks clean, and is warm or cool enough for the weather, I'm in good shape. I'll leave the designer tags for when she no longer comes home covered in paint :goodvibes and is old enough to truly appreciate what they mean rather than just what she's picked up from the adults around her (and yes, that is where they get it).:rolleyes1

That's always been my attitude as well. Actually when my DD was that age a teacher told us that at open house "don't send your kids to school in nice clothes, we PLAY here! They will come home with stains!" I still liked her to match and of course be clean and appropriate for the weather, but I didn't spend a ton of money on them. She wore alot of shirts with leggings because they were easy for her to play in and still looked cute.

Now I have a DS starting kindergarten and he has some brand names, just Children's Place, Gymbo, Gap, but mostly because they have held up well so I bought them for his brothers and they're hand me downs.

You will love crazy 8. My dd wore a 6 plus last year and loved them. She is in a 7 plus this year. They are awesome.

DD6 went to a fashion-conscious private preschool, where all the girls wore cute name-brand clothes. Last year, she was in public school kindergarten, where jeans and t-shirts seemed to be the rule. This year, it looks like jeans and t-shirts still.

DD won't wear jeans; mostly she wears skorts, or dresses with capri-length leggings. She owns a couple pairs of (embroidered velveteen ) warm winter pants, but will wear dresses with heavy tights most of the time when it's cold. Last year was mostly fuchsia / raspberry; this year is lilac and light pink. I mostly get basics at Land's End, because of the adjustable waists, and supplement with thrift store / consignment stuff.

DD is not fashion-conscious in the sense that she cares what other people wear, but is in the sense that she wants to look "cute," as defined by her. Which some days means a raspberry long-sleeved dress over turquoise cargo pants with red socks and hot-pink shoes. Fortunately, she has complete confidence in her personal style, so can carry it off.

This type of topic always makes me sad. Preschoolers aren't aware of fashion, status or money.. until an adult instills those values. And I can totally see the issue..because even I worry my kids will be singled out.
I have a child in my daycare who rarely if ever wears the same outfit twice, and is covered head to toe in marketing. This child also frequently (at 4 no less) says things like "My car is newer than yours!" "How many tv's do you have? I have 4!" e.t.c e.t.c.
And her mom is pretty much the same.
It all but makes me vomit to think perfectly valuable and wonderful kids are left out because they can't afford the newest thing. It's all so shallow.
OP, I don't mean to get off topic on your post.. but I can understand the concern for your child fitting in.. I have felt it myself.
Sorry for the rant.

Do you think they run true to the measurements on their website? My DD is 47" tall and 61lbs. According to the site, she would fit in a 6 plus, although I think her waist may be a little bigger than the 25 1/2" listed. Any insight?

Yes this is true to some extent but I cant figure out where my daughter got it from... NOT FROM ME!!! LOL... I am as plain and un brand name as you can get... but my rule... I WONT buy anything that is not on Clearencce or that I have a coupon for... I teach my daughter how to find the pricey stuff CHEEP!!!! and I think that is teaching values too... She has middle of the road clothing I think but I paid next to nothing for it!!!!!!!!

Honestly my kids dont care what they wear.. I care. I like them to look cute. I never had the "cool" clothes in school. With sales/coupons I can get them name brand cute stuff cheaper than walmart clothes that fall apart or stain after a few wearings.
