What does "whatever" mean to you?

Seems like a lot of people use this word and I've heard different meanings for it. Just curious what it means to you?

I take whatever to mean... I don't know or I don't care.

To me it means that the person doesn't care enough to give you a real answer. I used to work with someone that when she was training me and I would ask her a question her answer was "whatever". She had given her two weeks notice at that point and after a week of this they just told her to leave.

It depends on how it's used.

It can be a polite way of telling someone to kiss off after you have just insulted them, also.

Bingo ! Or they are too darned lazy to string together the words to answer you properly.

Like when you say thank you to someone, and they reply unh hunh. That is so rude !

Whenever I say "Whatever" to some one, it means that I am really ticked at that person and rather than say something REALLY rude that I will regret later, I just say "Whatever".

When I say whatever it means I very close to going off on someone. Or it means I'm dealing with someone who isn't listening to what I'm saying. No matter what I say the other person just doesn't seem to get it. Instead of going on I just say whatever and let the matter die.

I've only been "whatevered" by one of my sisters. It means she's too much of a coward to say what she thinks, she doesn't have enough sense to verbalize what she thinks, and she's too lazy to try to explain what she thinks.
"Whatever" = such a lame response, that I must offer pity to the poor fool who offers it.

i also use it like camcolt when there's no point in arguing with the person.

Wow, I guess I should stop using this word...

for me, "whatever" means "I don't care," but definitely not in a mean way. If my friend asks me what I want to do on a Friday night, I'll say "I don't know, whatever," but it doesn't mean that I don't care enough to give a response, it just means that I don't have an opinion and they can decide.

And I would never use "whatever" as an insult or in an argument...that's like surrendering, because my friends would just assume I'm not intelligent enough to think of a response, and then make fun of me because they won the argument!

Agree here. Don't use it that much now, because saying nothing sometimes speaks volumes on it's own.
