Just tried to log on to my account and this is the screen I get. After 3 months in the game NOW they want me to rename my character .. why?

:sad2: Who knows... that's a common problem with a lot of people. I've heard theories previously on here that they pick and choose who needs a name change with a Magic 8-Ball :rotfl: and I'm beginning to think that's true.

Sorry you have to go through that, though. I know it must be frustrating.

I can see why they would want you to change it, but it does seem silly they would approve the name at first, and then later disapprove.

Well I hoped you picked FushiaAquaChicken!! Hehe!! As for your old name, yup I can tell you it happened because you used information that "could" make you identifiable...VMK frowns on using proper names as you player name.

I think I'll just call myself "stupidvmkname" :thumbsup2

It's more stress than I can deal with to try and come up
with a new name ... any ideas?

Eddiesgal implies romantic relationship (and yes, "romantic relationship" means "taken") and reveals personal information (someone's first name). It's annoying, but that's the way VMK has to be now :headache:

hmmmm

how about... aengusisthebest

or maybe

lavaboyruleth

just a couple of suggestions :rotfl2:

Yes it is so hard to choose again. Out of frustration that is how I ended up with, redoagain, whyagain, guessagain, welliam, and for the rude players mannersplease:goodvibes

Oh I love the "mannersplease" title!! :lmao:

I think what happens is when we first make a new character, it is a computer system that is okaying the titles. But then as we walk around VMK, I think staff slowly picks up on those titles that are including real names - these slip by a computer system obviously, but not real people monitoring VMK. They can't catch everybody at once (VMK staff can't be everywhere at once). Sometimes it takes months for them to notice a certain title.

My son's title is DarthJordan - so far it's gone unnoticed. But I know eventually a staff member or whoever it is that watches VMK will eventually spot it and pull it.

It does make sense. They DON'T want real names in your VMK title. It just takes time for them to track down every title with a name in it. They have to actually SEE it before a red flag can be raised.

Anyways, this is just my theory. Sorry about having to go through a name change, especially such a cute one as yours.

Does your husband perhaps have a pet name you can use in place of "eddie"?

I don't get this at all. When a new player starts, VMK has to approve a name before it's ever allowed. My name has both a Disney character name (which has been theorized in the past as one excuse for some forced name changes) as well as an actual name. I've been playing with this name since April of '06. And it's not a case of having to track me down...

Over the year+ that I've been playing I've had several assorted in-game conversations with Hosts and Staff including Lily, Hula, 'Dawg, and even the Lord-God Yavn himself. One instance in particular was a "conversation" that occured over a week period and several visits to Lily's rooms (during which time Lily most certainly remembered me ;) ). I've had Hosts show up and visit my rooms once or twice. Additionally, a couple times my rooms have been at the top of the Guest Rooms list - with my name in the title, no less ("Goofy_Bob's Trading Emporium"). I've written literally dozens of e-mail to, and received responses from, Contact Us, Paul Yanover, Joan & Vince at VMK Operations, VMK_Shorty, and others. I've called VMK's customer service phone number. I've submitted a Community Leader application and was given a test for a reply. Not to mention I've posted over a thousand messages here at DIS and other VMK-related boards at which the VMK people are said to stop by from time-to-time.

My point being I haven't been quietly hiding in the shadows.

I suppose my day could be coming... but I rather think it's another example of VMK's inconsistancies. Sorry to hear you had to change your title. Your new one is nifty, if that helps.

Thank you everyone for sympathizing with me on my lost name. :grouphug:
I was more shocked than anything else at first, as I figured my name had already been approved.
However, I'm really liking my new name and all is cool with me. :cool1:

Yeah, the same could be said for BriarLori, as well. I've been playing
since beta testing days, and so far, they've been ok. If they give me any
trouble, I have a retort. "What's wrong with BriarLori? I seem to recall the
original VMK home page had a character of SnowEmma on it."

I am puzzled about the first name problems. I wonder if the problem was
more about the relationship aspect. If that's the case, there's another DISer
with a similar relationship title, and I'd be worried she'd have to change hers,
too. That would bite. :sad2:
