My guide told me that if I added on then they are offering to back dated the point for 2007.. What exactly does this mean?? Thanks,

Usually add-ons will come with points from the current Use Year. If you have a Use Year bewteen April and December, you would still get points from your 2006 Use Year - the guides may refer to these as "backdated". You will still get a new allotment of points when your Use Year begins again. If you have a February or March Use Year, you would also get current points but from the 2007 Use Year.

I would probably want an explanation from my guide to make sure what he/she was referring to in this case though.

Enjoy!

That is what he said. But still not clear lets say you add on 100 more points. Then you would get the one hundred now for a feb. use year and then 100 more in Feb?? Did I get this correct??? thanks

It's usually a better deal for a month that is ahead. Example - if you buy a June use year now, they will give you 100 June 2006 points to use or bank, plus you will get 100 more in June 2007. This would be for SSR or earlier resort, I don't think they would give you 2006 for AKL since it isn't open. AKL has the developer points deal.

Not sure then if it is a great deal with a FEB. use year...

Since I would not the points till Feb. 08 then right? Or would they give them to me now to use or bank.. I really just want to bank them.,...

You would still get Feb 2007 to use or bank. But not 2006.

If you got February, 2006 points they would be worthless to you since they expired on January 31 and can no longer be used anyway.

You will get current points when purchasing an add-on. At this moment, February and March points are current only for the 2007 Use Year and in another 8 days, you can add April to that list.

Ouch, that stinks!:sad2:
The lesson here is that if you are thinking of adding on and you are in the final months of your UY, it's better to do so before the start of your next UY rather than after. For example, if you had a Jun UY and were considering adding on more points, do so before June 1, 2007 or you will lose out on the 2006 UY points (assuming you were adding on anywhere but AKV where 2006 points are not available).

Dues on an add-on are pro-rated based on when you get the points, usually 24 hours after purchasing. So the other side of this is, the earlier in the calendar year you purchase the add-on, the more dues you pay for that calendar year. But it's worth it to get an extra set of points.

So I loose out if I add on now since my use year is FEb?? Right!!!!

You don't lose anything, since you will still start with all points in the current Use Year regardless when you purchase - the only difference is how soon you'll get that next allotment of points.

If you have a choice between buying during the last couple of months of your Use Year or wait until after the Use Year begins, you should propably weigh that difference in your decision regarding when to buy.

At times in the past, MD would NOT allow add-on points to be banked if you were past your banking deadlines - If you purchased during the last 2 months of your Use Year, your only option was to use the points or they would expire. Recently, MS has allowed add-ons to have an exception to the banking deadlines - but I suppose that could also be changed in the future.

I don't know if I would use the term "lose out" at this point (2 months into your UY), but yes, if you had purchased the add-on back in January, your contract would likely have been "back dated" to Feb '06, assuming they still had 2006 points available for that resort. You would have owed dues starting back in Jan as well.

You're still going to get a full set of 2007 points without having to pay the full dues for 2007. And provided you purchase before June 4th, you will avoid the price increase as well.

Just as a side note, I am not advocating waiting until just weeks before your UY ends to purchase an add-on. They could run out of current-UY points or refuse to let you bank them so late in your UY. But if someone is considering purchasing an add-on and they are in the last months of their UY, it's good to know about these things so that if possible, they can purchase it prior to the end of the UY.

The only possible advantage is you may save a little on maintenance costs.

DVC pro-rates the maintenance costs for the remainder of the year. Say you have a Feb use year month, and purchase in April. You will pay 9/12ths of the annual maintenance costs. If you purchase in December, you pay 1/12th of the annual maintenance costs.

In both case you get full 2007 points.

The gamble is they may raise prices before then. Or they may no longer allow you to bank if past your banking deadlines.

maybe you could help me out, I don't understand how points are available at OKW for 88 a point how is possible

I would expect that OKW resales could be purchased in that price range. Price from DVC directly is currently $92, but resales are negotiable.

Were they perhaps offering to "back date" to Jan 31 so that you could get the points?
