what does everyone want to do, career-wise?

i would assume they mean college as well. university is a highly overused term that relates only to the size of the school. They shouldn't only allow those who go to a large school

My college is on the same campus as the university. So I guess it's pretty big overall. But I still don't think I can do the college program. I only get a diploma, not a degree in Journalism. Which totally sucks cause the whole thing is full-time and two years. I think I should get a degree out of it for all the work I'm doing and the money I'm paying! I'm guessing Disney won't accept a diploma student no matter how good my grades are. :(

It's great reading about everyone's experiences! I hope you don't mind an ICPer passing by :goodvibes

School: Cardiff University School of Medicine (United Kingdom)

Major: I'm a medical student, but this year, I have taken a year "out" to study Medical Genetics. I'll return to medicine in September :)

Career goals: In two years I'll be a junior doctor :scared1: I guess you guys call it an intern in the US? I haven't decided on a specialty yet but there are a few I am interested in: emergency medicine, OBGYN, infectious diseases...

DCP, yes/no, role, when: I am doing the international college program starting in June 2011. I'll be an attractions CM.

Why did you decide to do the DCP?: This is the only summer that I'll have the chance to do something like this while at university. The biggest reason for doing the ICP is the fact that I'm a disney-holic :goodvibes I'd love to experience working for such a company, and i want to give something back by bringing magic to the guests as a CM. I also want the summer of a lifetime, and everyone who has done the ICP has said that it's the best experience ever!

Did it help (in your career pursuits)? why or why not?: It won't directly help with my career; the first question I got asked at my face-to-face interview was why on earth do you want to do the CP when you are a medical student?? But I think the CP will help me in lots of ways. It will help develop good communication skills which I will use with my future patients. The skills developed at Disney on the CP will carry you through life!

school: Suffolk University

major: Theater (Performance concentration), minor Media

career goals: To be the director of an orientation program at a university! (yeah, I know I make sense)

DCP, yes/no, role, when: Attractions, Fall Advantage 2011

why did you decide to do the DCP?: Because I ADORE Disney; originally I wanted to be a performer but my goals have since changed, but I still can't shake the though of working for Disney - it's a dream come true and at least some kind of employment post-college!

did it help (in your career pursuits)? why or why not?: I think every job is a customer service job in some form, so I'm hoping this'll help!

School: San Joaquin Delta College
Major:General Studies right now, trying to decide between Education and Law. My other major interest is in robotics.
Career goals: Become either a lawyer or a teacher. Overall, I want to help people, either by helping them reach their potential, or making things more just in society.
DCP, yes/no, role, when: Hopefully Fall 2011
Why did you decide to do the DCP?: When I was in about 10th grade.
Did it help (in your career pursuits)? Why or why not?: I expect it will. I mean, any sort of experience is good experience, but particularly working with kids, and seeing different personalities and family types in Disneyland.

:tigger:

School: Syracuse University

Major: Information Management & Technology (BS 2004)

Career Goals: at this point, I haven't got a clue

CP: Fall 2004, AK Main Entrance Turnstiles

Why did I do the CP: I grew up in Michigan and went to school in Syracuse. I needed a few months to thaw out. Also, I thought it would be nice to have a few more months to conduct a job search.

Did it help my career: Maybe. I'm still working at Disney. I've pretty much given up on my original degree, and am considering going back to school, either for an MBA or a Masters in Hospitality. Not sure that I'm going to do that, as I still don't have any idea what career path I want to take, and there's no sense in spending the money for school if I'm not going to use it.

Career Goals: Event planner/coordinator, vacation planner, restaurateur, professional organizer, hotel/resort management

DCP, yes/no: Not yet!

Role: I plan on checking off Hospitality, Concierge, Vacation Planner, and Photopass Photographer :goodvibes

When: The plan is for Spring 2014 after I graduate with my Bachelor's Degree in either Summer/Fall of 2013!

Why did you decide to do the DCP?: I've wanted to work for Disney my entire life. I can remember back when I was a kid, wanting to sell popcorn on Main Street. That evolved into wanting to be one of the princesses. Now that's evolved into wanting a real career with the company.

Did it help in your career pursuits? Why or why not?: I worked at my local Disney Store the year I took off of college, and I already feel like that helped me a lot. I would still be there if the store hadn't closed last year. It's the only place I've ever been where I felt a connection to everyone around me. It was so nice to have something in common with everyone I worked with and for. I feel like it encouraged me to pursue a career in the company even farther and I can't wait to work for the Walt Disney Company again! There's nothing like having Mickey Mouse on your paychecks :lovestruc

Once I'm done with the College Program, I plan on applying for a Professional Internship in Event Planning or with Disney Fairy Tale Weddings.

Once I'm done with the College Program, I plan on applying for a Professional Internship and then just trying to work my way up through the company!
