what does"commando style" touring mean to you

We used to go Commando until we bought into the DVC and go at least twice a year, so now if we don't do something we will do it the next time.

Yes, I am a 'Theme-Park Commando', and I can admit it. I can certainly relate to what etwinchester is talking about. Yes it is hot, yes, there is a lot of walking. what do people expect? I also did not spend several hundred dollars to just stand around or go back to the hotel early. I want to hit the rides, and yes I need to get there early and HAVE A PLAN.

RC Fan,

My DH says the same thing, "We did not spend over $800 in tickets to sit around." LOL I agree. ^5 to all my fellow Disney Commandos!

I do like to get up early and hit the parks for EE. I try and go on as many of my favorites as possible. Then when the park "officially" opens, hopefully I can finish up my other favorites and then have a leisurely lunch somewhere.

But to "sleep late" in WDW is not heard of in my family. Like someone else said "if you want to sleep late do it home"!! I wait all year for this trip. Even being a DVC Member, each trip for me is like the first!! I feel like I'm going to miss something.

DH says I'm nuts  but what does he know??? ::yes::

Actually, the day we went to Epcot in March last year wasn't even hot. I could see if that was the case. She just walks a very short distance and complains about something. It was the first actual vacation I took with her so I didn't know it was going to be like that. My mom and other family members went down to Wildwood afterwards and it was the same thing. Walk about 3-4 blocks and the aunt is done. We made her walk back alone. If we didn't, we'd never get past the same spot on the boardwalk. I can see if it was my grandmother or something. My grandmother kept up and was ready to go. She had a blast.

Oh well, live and you learn. My mom, dad, nor other family members won't go in one vehicle again. Learned that leason as well...

Gee, didn't even realize I was a commando, but reading all these posts, I guess I qualify! After 8 trips, I think I'm calming down a little, but we're still getting a wake up call, we're still getting to the park for early entry, we still have a plan of what park we are going to on what day, we still have a plan of where we are going to eat each meal, we still know what day we're going to watch what parade and/or evening shows.
We always go with my parents who are not as commando as I. We have a great understanding - if we want to start out together, great! If not, we'll see you later, maybe at lunch if we have a PS. If there's something else that you want to do, great.
My dad has problems occassionally with gout in his feet. He's been known to rent a scooter thing and just keeep going. Doesn't want to miss a thing. (Maybe he's a commando too).
I feel the same way - I spent a lot of money on this vacation, I want to enjoy it to the fullest. I don't feel the need to do every little thing, but I don't want to feel like I spent all this money to sleep in the room. I can do that at home for free.

My son and I are taking our first cruise in April. I've been searching the cruise line board to find all the info I can about. While searching I came across this post that made me think of the commando thread.

We're going on our 1st 4 day Wonder cruise in about 2 weeks. We're getting off in Nassau and we're going to do everything we can do - because we can relax when we're dead. Got too much to see and do in this big world to sit anything out. We're spending 6 days in WDW and then 4 onboard and then 3 more in Cocoa Beach. I'll relax on the plane home- maybe- unless there is something interesting going on to do or see!!

I go on vacation to relax and I have been able to enjoy WDW much more after I learned to take it slower. It helps if you know your stay at WDW isn't going to be the only one for a long time.
This last year was great, we had an entire week and despite absolutely total spontaneity did great with lines (longest wait 20 mins.), attractions and pacing ourselves. The only item I regretted missing was a dinner at one of the restaurants I was interested in at Epcot but...you have to leave something for the next year.

I listen closely to my daughter, after all this vacation is for her and if she is happy I'm in heaven. If there is something I really want to do she almost never has a problem and this year she actually designated a day (1/2 day was enough) for Dad, lol.

There are times she wants to spend 20 minutes doing something I find a tad boring (like playing in jets of water at a park for instance) but hey...its like the cliche "stop and smell the roses". Even if you know there is some fantastic ride nearby don't be in such a hurry, there are special moments that kids don't forget (which you find about years or decades later). One of my daughter's favorite memories was just running around the Magic Kingdom during a torrential downpour in our new Ponchos.
