Well, I thought I was through shopping for Christmas, but now I don't think my dd9 will like much of what I got her. Perhaps its too young for her. when I ask her what she wants she never has any suggestions. Here's what I got her:

American Girl Kristen Doll
Several Kristen outfits
Other American Girl Doll outfits
All AG stuff bought on Ebay, can't return, maybe I could try to re sell it?

Several children's classic books:
Little Princess
Secret Garden
Little Women
Jo's Boys
LIttle House on the Prarie 9 vol. set
Anne of Green Gables

a laptop (refubrished, great employee discount)

Nintendo games:
Nintendo dogs Dalmation & Labador

DVd's:
Little House on the Prarie set of 6 DVDs
Cars
Monster House

AG Coconut Pajamas and slippers, and coconut pj for her AG doll. Bought on Ebay

Furby Friend

It seems so paltry comapred to other years, however, dh is laid off. Most everything was bought through Ebay, used (excellent condition) books, much can't be returned.

However, she doesn't seem to be into that stuff anymore. I just thought she'd like AG stuff, but come to think of it she really doesn't play with them anymore. I spent a lot of time putting outfits together for her and the doll. But it seems she's lately interested in Hannah Montana, That's so Raven, Cheetah Girls. I don't really care for those shows and try to limit her viewing of them because I think they were starting to be a bad influence on her. I don't want to encourage it, but what else can I get her? :confused3

I'm just afraid she'll de dissappointed Christmas morning. She seems to be more into clothes, make up, etc. Perhaps I could somehow either take back or sell the AG stuff and get her some make up, perhaps a gift card for Claires (that's the biggest junk store I ever saw!), maybe some clothes from Justice for Girls, well.....

So, does a 9 year old girl even like AG stuff anymore, or do they just play with what they got for gifts from previous years with wanning interest? At least I can return the AG Kristen doll, its still in the box. And the Little House on the Prarie DVDs, come on! They are sappy! she'd watch them once. You can always catch them in reruns on tv, anyways!Actually, I'm thinking of returning all the DVD's, got them at Costco. My kids watch a DVD about once, anyways.

I thought my shopping was all done, now I'm kinda bummed looking at the stuff I've got for her--its way too baby for her!

What doe other 9 year old girls want?

I have a 7yo so it is a little different but it seems that most girls really like the AG dolls even when they have outgrown other dolls. My dd will not play with dolls but does enjoy her AG. It sounds to me like you got plenty of things for her. My dd did request clothes for Christmas (from Justice and Limited Too, of course) so that is mostly what she will get but I don't think you need to go out and buy them just to get her more. I honestly believe that it is us adults that tend to overdo Christmas and the kids really appreciate whatever they get. My kids often want to play with the first toy they open and would have been happy with much less than they receive.

BTW my DD would think the laptop is the most AWESOME gift possible. That alone would make Christmas the best ever! :thumbsup2

Wow, please adopt me! They sound like amazing gifts, and a 9 year old should be extremely thrilled to get what you have bought- she is 9 after all.

IMO, too much emphasis is placed on getting 'just' the right gifts rather than the thought and love that went into buying them. Its not the quantity, or quality, its the sentiment. ((If she is disappointed, perhaps she should have given you better ideas.))

OH MY your list of books is AWESOME!!! I have happy happy memories of reading those books, and look foward to having a little girl to read them with. Since I dont have a little girl, I cant really help you out, but I think that what you have sounds great. My girl cousins are now 19 and 1.5 yrs so its been a while since ive bought for a 9 yr old.

Now i am NOT a fan of Bratz dolls, but i will say my neighbors child played with them from about 9-11 yrs old. She is 13 now and interested in Ipods, cell phones and game systems and of course the latest clothes.
How about asking some of her good friend's moms what they are getting their kiddies?

Actually, I feel dd is growing up too fast. I really don't care for the tv shgows she enjoys--Cheetah Girls, That's so Raven, Hannah Montana. The seem to be too old for her. We limit TV watching to weekends only.

I don't care for the Bratz thing. she has a few of their dolls and I don't want to make a big deal out if them, but I just don't want to buy any more. Honestly, they look like streetwalkers to me!

Insofar as clothes, her style sense is influenced by tv. she wants all that glitter, sequiens, etc. I won't let her dress like that because its too old for her and simply impractical. She's in fourth grade, they still use crayons and markers a lot and she frequently comes home with stains all over her clothes. I wouldn't let her wear expensive clothing to school, it would just get ruined! I allow her to indulge her "passion for fashion" with a few accessories, like a glittery headband, belt, or jewelry, but that's it. Oh, she does have some embrodiered jeans. How to wash that sequiened stuff, anyways :confused3

We also have a ds9 (not twins, long story!). He's getting a laptop, too. A refubrished one, great employee discount. We figure they will need them for schoolwork, we can't be crawling over the same computer. He's getting leggos, connects, magnetix--he loves to build! Also, he's getting 2 nintendo ds games spryo & cars, 2 DVD's (but I might take them back), several books, and both kids are getting subscriptions to online gamesites (forget the names just now).

Also, I had enough AMEX rewards points to get 10 $10 gift cards, so each kid will get $50 of Toys r us gift cards as stocking stuffers. Also, as stocking stuffers I'm getting them replacement stylus pens for their nintendo ds (alas, they have last year's model!)

Sounds like a lot when dh is laid off, but the laptops were bought on employee purchase plan several months ago. I bought the books and doll clothes used via Ebay and Amazon. They look new! I will just wrap up the doll clothes in nice tissue paper and she will be just as pleased. The nintendo games and dvd's were bought at Costco and Walmart, got a few BF deals. All in all, we're not spending a whole lot of money, and its all paid for with cash (remember that?). We started a Christmas savings account last Christmas, so it wouldn't sting as much this year.

Well, I'm always so anxious about Christmas, I stress over the tree, decorations, food, etc. Maybe this year I should just relax and take it as it comes. A stressed-out Mom is no Christmas present!

relax and enjoy your children! make em each a book of coupons, sledding, ice skating etc.....one on one with each, all free stuff

My DD9 is not into dolls at all anymore. Don't know if this will help but these are things that my daughter has asked for this year.

A digital camera (she did just get one)

A metal detector

A Skateboard :confused3 and safety gear :thumbsup2

Gameboy games and a nintendo micro (she already has a gameboy advanced)

A science kit about circuits

Laptop (which we cannot afford this year)

Idog

MP3 player

New bedroom furniture

Dream Life and

Some contraption that puts jeweled beads in your hair, cannot remember what it's called.

She also loves clothes and shoes, especially from Limited too and as far as makeup she is only allowed to wear lip gloss.

BINGO!

Well, I'm always so anxious about Christmas, I stress over the tree, decorations, food, etc.
Blame it on the media and our willingness to believe the hype!

I sense you're a good-natured soul...I'm sure your Christmas will reflect that!

Why does everything have to be so fancy, anyways? When I was a kid the tree was decorated with dime store trinkets, paper chains, aluminum ice cicles. Then Hallmark got into the tree decorating business. when I first saw a keepsake ornanment I remembered you'd take a long time to decoratre a tree at $25 an ornament!Well, over the years I now have a respectable collection of keepsake ornaments, along with hand made, one of a kind, ornaments makde by my kids, ornaments obtained in travels, etc. what a pain to assemble and put away afterwards!

This year were going "retro" I found plain, stryofoam balls, cheap tinsel and ice cicles. along with items my kids have made, we wil have a pretty respectable tree, with nary a lennox or hallmark ornament on it! This year's theme is __keep it simple! Cheap ornaments that won't upset us if they're broken. Instead of using my nice Lennox china--which can't be put in the dishwasher due to the gold trim, I will use a nice Christmas set I got a WalGreens for $20 for an entire 8 piece setting with serving pieces (it was a BF special).Keep the meal simple--we don't need Julia Child;s version of sweet potatoes, just mash 'em like grandma did!Don't wrap each present, maybe the best saved for last. I've saved some red and green containers and baskets, I can display grouped items in them with perhaps a simple ribbon/bow on top.
Heck, I might even use paper plates. My mother did that one year when her dishwasher broke on Thanksgiving Day :furious: Easiest cleanup ever. Fine China is a pain--my mother said to get something you could put in the dishwasher, but I figured we'd only use them 3-4 times a year, it wouldn't be that big a deal to wash a few dishes. Well, washing dishes after putting on a holiday feast is not exactly high on my list. They usually sat there for 2-3 days before I got around to washing them. I told dd she will inherit my Lennox chian, she also inherits the pain! :rotfl2:

This year I won't insist everyone dress up for Christmas eve. In the past I got the kids new outfits, which they wore only to Christmas Eve services amd to have their pictures taken. This year they can buy an outfit they like and consider it theri Christmas outfit. No more checkered vests and organdy skirts

For Christmas Eve I like making those Jimmy Dean sausage balls. You can find the recepie on any Jimmy Dean label or their website. Essentially, they're made of Jimmy Dean sausage mixed with flour, onions, celery, green pepper, cheddar cheese, and Bisquick then rolled into balls and baked. What I like about them is that they can be made several days in advance so I'm not frantic trying to cook on Christmas Eve. I has them with a cranberry sour cream jello mold and buttered rolls. Its a great quick meal for after church servicess. Christmas Day I buy a prepared dinner from whole Foods. Unlike some other prepared dinners, Whole Foods really taste right, not like somethinhg out of a box!We just slop around in our robes Christmas morning looking at our loot (note to myself--get new robe). the go out to IHOP for breakfast. When we come back the ham's cooking away and we have dinner.Just good down home cooking--btw, anyone know how to make red eye gravy? My father always loved it on ham!

I think that it is wonderful that you are trying to keep her from growing up too soon. I do not like the Bratz dolls or a lot of the tween-type shows. Our DN is 9 and she too is past dolls of any kind and she was really into dolls at a younger age. I would just talk with her and feel out how she feels about the dolls. So much is peer influenced and she might really like playing with her dolls when she is alone. I think you have enough for her and the laptop should be a HUGE hit. All girls need to read those wondeful clasics and I LOVE Little house and too think they have wonderful life lessons!!

She will love whatever she gets.

My daughter is 9, almost 10. Her list is art supplies, an Amanda doll (not getting), a scooter and an EZ bake oven (also not getting). She will get the art supplies and the scooter, along with a few other things. That's it. Nothing huge but stuff I know she will use. I truly think the holidays have become so commercialized towards kids.

It seems like the OP has a good handle on the holidays and I am sure her daughter will love everything she gets! Have a great holiday!!

My DD is turning 9 in a week and this is what I got her for Christmas.

Amercian Girl Doll (Just Like You version)
AG outfit for her and her doll
Plug and Play Dance Mat
2 Game cube games
Calendar
Blendi Pens
States and Capitals Game
Littlest Pet Shop Playhouse and pets

She also loves Hannah Montana and Raven shows too. I personally think these shows are great for kids her age. There is NOTHING on TV that we can watch as a family except for these types of shows, so I like them. We watch them together all the time.

My DD will be 9 in a few weeks. She still loves her AG Dolls, but doesn't want a new one. I have bought her and her little sis each the new trundle beds. I also got them the new winter pjs with the matching santa hats and slippers. But for DD 9 that's it with AG. Here is her list (not all from us, some from other family members, grandparents especially.)

Digital camera and 2g card
mp3 player
idog and carrier
izzie mp3 dancing guy :confused3
deal or no deal table top game
digital pets and the tv interactive thing :confused3
DS lite
3 or 4 games for it
AG trundle bed and bedding
AG pjs and slippers
A to Z Mysteries books
Design world game for the tv
Bean bag

She too wants gift cards from Claires and Limited too

well my dd is 12, but her 'wish list' has'nt changed much over the past few years. this year she's hoping for 'movies' (wants some of the bratz ones, ice age 2, and 'flight plan'-she saw it a couple of times on the disney cruise and realy likes it), 'books' (read-gift cards for walmart or borders), 'music' (again gift cards, but i usualy pick up a cd of some artist she's never realy listened to-as a result she has developed a liking for abba, the b-52's and few other 'oldies' we enjoy hearing from her room), 'something cuddly' (this usualy means some type of fleece clothing-she loves the fleece holiday lounging pants i got at old navy a couple of years ago-wears them constantly) and 'maybe a doll' (she's right at the cusp of feeling 'too old' to play with them-but when she's alone she realy does play with them allot (i think it's a peer thing-some friends say it's babyish-but their mom's admit they still play with them too  ).

so far i've gotten her a couple of the 24 inch bratz dolls that walmart had on black friday (if nothing else she might feel comfortable keeping them out as decorations to match her bratz bedding and posters) and a baby cabbage patch doll (again black friday special $10 :thumbsup2 -i figure this may be the last year i can gift her with a doll, so i'll make it something she might hang on to). i'm going to hunt down the 2 dvd's she's named-and i know she'll get a walmart gift card from my brother so she can pick out her own bratz movies and some music. i'll probably grab a few paperbacks (and a couple of the tween magazines she's lately been reading-iiiick) and get her a small gift card to borders. i can grab a couple of inexpensive fleece items from old navy-and that will be pretty much it (except for stocking stuffers-which usualy are notebooks, little sparkly pens and 'fu-fu' stuff).

we've had lean and prosperous financial times over the years, but in neither case did we realy go overboard with christmas gifts. i've known (and been related) to too many kids who got so much stuff they hardly touched it-just a huge waste of money. we try to get stuff they want but moreso stuff we know the kids will actualy use/play with.

My DD is 8. She has asked for many AG things this year. She has some Bratz dolls (from DMIL). She mostly plays w/Kit her AG doll.

This year she is getting:
Kit x-mas dress AG
Kit typewriter & desk AG
Kit book AG
(all AG found through out the year on sale)
Rollerblades
Nintendo DS lite w/ 2 games
Hannah Montana CD
Ornament
Tink Calandar
and Limited Too Outfit from Mom & Dad on X-mas eve everything else is from Santa.

My list does not look as large as everyone else. We try to limit our gifts. DMIL really over does it and the kids get overwhelmed. My DM gets them each 3 or 4 things, which is plenty. I really wish Christmas wasn't so overdone in our house. DH's family & I have very different views of the holidays. Oh well, I keep telling myself they are only young for so long & then the magic pixiedust: of Santa is over. Every year I hope DD still believes!

I think your list looks great!! It is hard when you have daughters in that age group, because they yearn to be thought of as older, and at the same time they still occasionally have a foot in childhood. My favorite example of this was my daughter a few years ago. She was in the tub, and called me in to ask if I would get her her razor from the shower. A few minutes later, I went back in and she was playing with her Mermaid Barbies!!!! They go back and forth, don't they??

I would keep the things you have (except I might return that Little House DVD set, even though I loved that show, because she really won't watch it much) but I'd add a few "teen" things to the mix. I'd sell the laptop as the cool toy (which it will be) and I'd add a cool laptop case, or a box to hold CDs, or a wireless mouse to use with it, along with a teen oriented mouse pad or other computer accessories. This might be a good place to slide in a few Cheetah Girls or Hannah Montana related items. As far as those shows go, it's just the age - you are going to be fighting a losing battle if you restrict her from all of them. The window for when they enjoy those shows is pretty short, too, because soon they will discover MTV and the reality programming like Project Runway, etc. I try to balance all of that - I find it works better if I'm going to draw a line somewhere to have a lot of acceptable substitutes to offer instead.

Your gifts for your DD are great! Please try not to stress. The holidays cause alot of stress for some people. My DD is 6.5 and she still loves AG dolls. But even she wants all that makeup and flashy clothes. I said no way to her. I agree keep them young as long as you can. Luckily she still loves Princesses. I'm dreading the day she wants grown up stuff. We don't have Bratz dolls in our house either, don't like them. However DD alos loves Hannah Montana, Raven & the Cheetah girls. Seems like all the girls in DD's class are into that. It's sad because you should see how some of DD's classmates dress! They look like the cheetah girls and they are only 6 & 7 :rolleyes1 . I understand where you are coming from. Alot of people posted some great idea too, not that your DD's list isn't great too. We did buy her a few CD's like Hannah Montana & Cheetah girls, she takes dance and they dance to this music in dance class. BTW my DD will not be watching MTV for a very long time if at all. It has change from when I was younger and is very sleazy IMO.

Anyway I have a niece who is 9 and they bought her a Razor Scooter, AG stuff for her doll and new bedding and stuff for her room. She loves books too and art supplies.

My list might look a little over done, but we have no extended family to flesh out the gifts. It either comes from us, or no one. Others have grandparents, aunts, cousins, who buy a few items to fill up the list, but its all us. Oh, I forgot, its really Santa! she isn't quite ready to give him up yet. We tell her we buy most of the items, but there's always something under the tree neither Daddy or I bought, so we guess its from Santa! Let her be a little girl as long as she can, the world will take over soon enough.

But I think I will return the Little House DVD set, maybe buy a Hannah Montana DVD, perhaps a mouse pad with a teen theme? Thanks for the suggestions!

DD (9) is getting:

AG beauty shop chair
AG beauty center
AG hair salon set for doll
AG reversible robe
Coconut outfit for AG Just like me doll (already has the doll)
Bitty Baby storage center
Bitty Baby outfit
Trunk from Target for AG doll clothes
Coconut's dog house
Art supplies
Twister
Connect Four
Game boy tape
Molly DVD
Monster house DVD
Hannah Montana CD
AG mini backpack
lots of AG Bath and Body products
a few outfits
Disney satin "cheerleader" type jacket

and lots of stocking stuffers!

I'm so glad she still likes AG and NOT Bratz!
