What does 2 Use Years Look Like?

I like having a February and August UY. Have transferred points on occasion. We enjoy having a fall/winter holiday and a summer trip too. Don’t have to stress about cancelling.

Reviving this thread rather than reinvent the wheel. I'm just starting to seriously think about a second use year and that's only if I buy Aulani resale, which won't happen until next year.

Argument for second use year:
1.) Currently have June, want Feb. Anticipate traveling mostly Feb, March and April to either Aulani or Wilderness Lodge.

2.)Wouldn't mind extra OTUP for the second use year.

3.) Chance for subsidized contract. Not super important as I would still buy non- subsidized after doing the math on the break even point for what I anticipate to pay for either type of contract.

Argument against second use year:
1.) Super lazy and don't want to spend much time on figuring out how to use both memberships.

2.) Needing to change rooms mid stay. I anticipate sometimes needing more points in one use year sometimes, requiring me to book a stay at 7 months for longer stay. I hope that's understandable.

3.) If I become incapacitated, there's no way in hades that my husband will ever be able to figure out how to work 2 use years.

The best way to use them is to use for different trips and borrow on one membership if need be, even if you have points on the other.

We have three and I know which trips go on which UY which some of the time being the ones that overlap.

Ha!!! Yes, having only 7-month points was also a consideration for us. We did end up sticking with the same use year, and have a contract waiting for ROFR with more points at one of our home resorts. We were seeing really amazing deals for a while in other use years at a different resort, but ultimately bought where we want to stay despite the fact that it is not at all the best financial decision. Thanks BCV for being so awesome and making us spend more on a 2042 resort!

February should be just fine with a June UY since cancelling more than 30 days out would still be before your banking deadline. For March/April, I guess the question would be, how likely are you to cancel/reschedule trips during those months after your Jan. 31 banking deadline? If you want that flexibility and, as Sandi noted, the points in your second UY can stand on their own, seems like it could make sense. OTOH, if you think cancelling or rescheduling outside of significant life events (at least anecdotally, it seems like Disney tends to have quite a bit of mercy in those situations) is unlikely, then maybe keeping your June UY would be simpler and easier, especially given your #1 and #3 cons (both of which I can relate to, especially #3 :-)).
