What do you unfortunately have a lot of?

I came up with a solution to this. My DH does fine sorting his socks. My older DS does his own laundry and doesn't have many sock issues. My younger DS is another story. He's been coming and going for the past 5 or so years (college, summer job out-of-state, recently moved to yet another state). Whenever he comes home, he leaves behind orphan socks. I find them under his bed, in his hamper, in the bathroom, etc. He just spent two weeks here and his socks seemed to multiply.

My solution - I put them in a pile as I find them. When they're all rounded up, I match as many pairs as I can. Whatever is left hits the trash. No mercy. It's simple and effective! :rotfl:
I have DH and 2 adult son at home, I got a sock basket in the hallway and I put them in there, if they want matched socks they know where to look. Before the basket one son would complain I gave him the wrong socks. Hope he learned his lesson! There is a 4 year age gap and my 24 year old was away at school/work for 5 years before Covid brought him home, so it was easier for me to figure it out when they were little.

We tried the sock basket thing, still a mess; we now have 5 sock baskets because the number of orphans is out of control. At this point the orphans have been laundered separately enough times that the colors are getting a bit off, which makes matching them harder. I'd throw them all out and start over, but it's at least $300 worth of socks, which really sticks in my craw.

I keep telling him that if you roll them when you take them off, they stay together in the laundry bin, end up in the same load, and can easily be matched as they come out of that load, but I think it's a lost cause. (That was my Mom's rule: in together, out together. We never had sock orphans when I was a kid.)

But how do they get clean if they're rolled in a ball?

We don't have too much of a problem with socks here, but I've heard of clipping a lingerie bag to each person's hamper to put their socks in.

You unroll them as you put them in the wash, at the point when you can be sure they will end up in the same load.

Dirty dishes. I cook pretty much all our food because of my allergies so it’s not unusual for me to make3-5 different meals everyday. Doesn’t help that DH is pickier than the toddler.
