Our school lunches are really bad. I am a teacher and I know that the school lunches are "trying" to get better, but the flip side is ... for the cafeteria to break even, they must sell items the students like and will buy. If they had a healthy meal made from scratch (our cafeteria does not do this) they wouldn't break even. It is quite sad.
My middle son struggles with his weight. So this year, we told the kids a fib ... that we were really trying to save money and that they would have to have a packed lunch everyday. My kids were fine with this ... however, my goal was to pack a healthy lunch for my middle son. It has worked out well. My son has not lost weight, but continues to not gain as he grows
... which has been our biggest problem in the winter months.
