We have a week booked there next month. Never have stayed on site, until a few months ago, did not know there were WDW resorts other than Swan, Dolphin, and Contemporary.

The rate at SOG was just too good to pass up.

I did some searches, but want to know MORE! We'll be there after our Disney cruise.

Thanks so much!

we will be there next week. Although it recieves some of the benefits of a Disney resort (EMH and EEH), it is not a Disney resort but a military one.
We love it and can't wait to get there. It's website is very accurate as to layout and looks. Have a great time!!!!

We have stayed at SOG 4 times in the last year and love it! You cannot beat the price. We stayed Concierge Lite at the CR summer 05 and the room at SOG was bigger. While it is a 10 to 15 minutes (depending how old the kids are) to the Polly to jump on their monorail they do have busses. Some people complain about their busses but we never had a problem and they were never crowed. Usually in the morning we walked to the poly and took the bus back at night. The resort it self is beautiful! And the professional photographer that can take your pic with a mickey statue is much cheaper and BETTER than the ones you get at the disney resturants. Go and have fun at SOG!

Last month we golfed right next to SOG; none of us had ever heard about this property!

Where do you call for reservations? Is it only available for Military?

Yes, SOG is only available to Active & Retired Military personnel and Active DoD personnel.

I'll be staying there with my DD's and their families (4 families) in Dec. I'm really looking forward to it. My youngest DD stayed there this past Jan. and really liked the resort.

We visited there a couple of weeks ago, it was the first time we have seen it since the remodel, and it is GORGEOUS!!! The location is fantastic too, right across from the Poly!!! We are eligible to stay there, dh is retired CG reserve, but you pay based on rank and for us it is not that cheap. Still, we may stay there some time. You can not even drive onto the property without showing your military ID, I love that (feels more safe.)
BTW, Disney has something like 22 resorts on property!!!! Go to their web-site (new and improved!) and check it out!!! It has been many, many years since they only had the Poly, and Contemporary, and the campground. The Swan and Dolphin are not even run by Disney. There are many, many other great Disney resorts....we want to stay in all of them!!!

Love it, love it, love it!!! We love the room size, the lobby and grounds, the mickey-shaped pool, the little snack bar near the bus pick up, the friendly staff, etc. etc. SOG is definitely one of our favorite places to stay at Disney.

We will be there in 7 days!!!! Can't wait... we have stayed 4 or 5 times now and LOVE IT.... we always request the older section because it is close to the pool and the putting green.... Prices include tax so don't forget to take that into consideration. You can buy your theme park tickets there, the dining is okay and the staff freindly... and the rooms are HUGE.... almost double of the value resorts.

Woohoo!

Do you know if you can buy your Pirate and Princess Party tickets there too? Can you get them for the advance rate there??

I told DH I want to spend a whole day resort hopping. I want to see them all while there! We'll be there in March!

Ah, yet another San Antonian at the DIS. :wave2:

I have stayed there twice. Both times in the new area. The hotel is great and right across the street from the Poly. The bus service is excellent and the dining options are more than adequate.

I personally didn't experience the "Disney Magic" when staying at the hotel. Kinda feels like you're staying at a hotel in Kissimmee instead of within WDW. Any how, the price is great and you will love the resort.

It sounds like everyone already gave you the info on how great it is! I can't wait until we go, we were last there 7 years ago, so I can't wait to see the remodel. Even when we were there 7 years ago it was really nice. I found it to still be a little busy, but it never seemed crowded or really loud like most hotels can be. I think cuz of the clientel it gets. There were a lot of seniors, retired military, there when we went. But it was great!

We love the SOG. We go with my parents. It compares to a deluxe property on Disney. It may not have the whole disney feel, but is very nice and better rooms than a value property. 2 more months and we will be there.

I also love the fact that since it's a smaller resort, it is quiet, the cheap breakfast buffet and the bus seats are more comfortable than the Disney buses.

Dec 2005 we stayed at the Caribbean (Part of the Disney Magic offer )
We VERY disappointed. in the hotel
We are looking forward to returning
to the SOG again.
DISNEY and SOG addict
God bless all

I was a little concerned when I thought about the "Disney Magic" as well until I realized that we're saving about $100.00/night over WL Standard Room or $194.00/night over YC Standard Room.

That much $$ saved on rooms can buy alot of "Disney Magic" in the parks and restaurants.

My husband and I were at Disney for our first time in May of '06. We stayed at Port Orleans French Quarter. We stopped in at the SOG to see how it was. In my opinion, it was a very nice hotel, especially for the money. However, it lacked the Disney magic. One other poster said she thought of this too, but realized the $100/night savings could buy a lot of magic in the parks. This is very true, but for us, much of the Disney magic is experienced ouf of the parks and in the relaxation and ambiance of the actual Disney hotels.

We loved the Upgrades and already have reservations for
Spring 2008 !

I have never understood the "lack of Disney Magic" at Shades of Green. Or it being compared to "any hotel in Kissemee"

First of all it has huge rooms comparable to CR or Poly, interior halls, beautiful grounds and balconies.:cloud9:
Second, I believe the bus service is comparable if not better than the WDW busses because both services are available to the SoG guests. The SoG busses at the TTC are very timely.
Third, it has only 600 rooms so it is easier to get around than a moderate or value resort.
Fourth, the employees are every bit as nice as the CM.
Fifth, it provides towel service at the pools and it has the Mickey Pool, children's pool, quiet pool and hot tub.
Sixth, it provides EEM and EENights.:woohoo:
Seventh, there is a person to help you book any dinners or golf times you desire.:teacher:

Finally and most important, it is only a short walk to the Poly and the monorail.:thumbsup2

As an extra bonus you can watch the MK fireworks from either the roof of the parking garage or from the Magnolia Pool side. We loved sitting on our balcony watching this display!!!:cheer2:

So for me Sog is full of Disney Magic just at an affordable price.
