My wife and I are due our first child next spring and plan (god willing) to have a second soon after. We currently have 210 points. I would like to add-on as each child reaches 3 years old which should get us to around 500 points.

I've read a lot about using DVC points for DCL and ABD is a bad idea, but I like those 2 options and would like to take the kids on tours around the world.

My plan then is to bank every other year and use 2 years worth of points on eaither a DCL, ABD or long stay at WDW. This would give us a great Disney vacation with the family every 2 years and each time be someting a little different.

Do you think this is a good plan and/or use of my DVC points?

I never understood why DVCers think that using points towards DCL or ABD is a bad idea. If you need to take a break from WDW or DL, why not do something different and save yourself thousands of dollars at the same time. It can cost up to $5,000 for one person to go on ABD so imagine getting a break on that huge expense. It's the same story for DCL. We will be going on our second cruise and have applied our points for myself and DH and then paid cash for the kids. Since it's only $500, we would rather pay cash and not use our points.

Yes, you can stretch your points out at your home resort but your family may not want to do the same thing every year or two!

Im not sure about the plan,

I'm due in the spring too, Cant wiat to bring our little one to the world for the first time!!!
