What do you think of my pin collecting plan?

I was thinking of finally getting into collecting pins.. I was going to limit myself to one particular series of pins... I was thinking of collecting Star Wars Weekends pins, pins about the attractions in WDW, as well as certain character pins and Walt Disney pins.. What do you guys think? Where can I get started? I am new to this.....

As a long time collector, all I can say is.....hope you have unlimited funds. You'd be amazed how many pins come out on attractions or with Walt Disney on them. As far as characters go, maybe keep it to those you don't see very often (I do Elliott & Merlin).

Collect what you like, because you like the pin, not because you think it will be worth a bushel full of money down the road. This is a fun, sometimes frustrating hobby, which can get very expensive. (Frustration sets in when you see a pin(s) you like but cannot afford such as a set of coffin pins from the 2004 Happy Haunts Ball which go for around $1,000).

Where to get started - when is your next trip to a Disney park? You will see pin lots for sale on ebay which can be used for trading with CM's.

Good luck!

Cyn

Thanks Cyn.. I was thinking of limiting to just a few pins.. not many.. Like only ones I completely fall in love with.. I seen some Mickey pins that I really don't like, but others shaped like Mickey ears that I thought were very nice... I dunno.. I may not even get into the pin collecting....

Good luck on limiting yourself. I tried that and I seem to have failed. I started with the Energizer pins and decided I wanted just happiest celebration related pins. Then I decided I wanted Small World pins (so, don't collect those, their mine :lmao: )

Recently, I decided I want to have any pins that have July 17 (my birthday) on them and ones with Walt's picture. Of course, I now need Stitch and Snow White pins, along with Mickey and Minnie. I also want one of each park icon and each hotel I stay at and special event I attend. Plus, if I see a cute pin (regardless of subject), I MUST have it.

So, I started out with a plan of what to collect and now...well I just can't help myself.

My advice: Run far away from pins and especially eBay. eBay is the devil, I think.

Thanks for the warning LOL

Just doing my duty! :thumbsup2

I do think eBay is a great place to get started though. Usually, you can find loys of great deals there.

If you want to trade, then you can buy lots there or I believe there's another site (mousepinsonline . com) They have grab bags for not too much. It doesn't matter what you get, since you can just trade them for something better.

It may be harder than you think collecting just one group. I thought the same thing (that I would just buy a few) and now I have over a hundred. There are just so many really great pins out there it's hard to stop.
