What do you think of Michael Moore's speech at the Oscars?

I didn't watch last night because I figured more than a few people would stoop to that level. I remember seeing him being interviewed on tv before the awards and he said that "they" don't want to see him up there tonight. He was making it very clear that he was going to use his time to say what he wanted. I'm surprised, but elated, that he got boo'd!

This is why I didn't watch the Oscar's last night. :(

We refused to watch the Oscars last night. I thought it was entirely inappropriate for these people(many of who are overpaid to "play" soldiers) to receive awards while our military fought for their freedom. I also knew I did not want to hear what I felt some would say.
I do live in Florida and I DID vote for Bush!;)

I was very upset with his speech. But I did love how they were booing him. And the fact that they panned it to the audience as they were booing him.

The biggest problem I had with it, is that the show was being broadcast to our troops. I heard late last night on MsNbC that it was indeed aired over there. I feel bad for the troops to have seen that, but I bet they cheered over Steve Martin's comment about the teamsters putting him into the trunk of his limmo!!!

I didn't watch the Oscars. I rarely do. I'm not a movie buff (live under the ol' rock, you know :p ) so I'm just not interested in who wins what...seems like there are too many awards shows anyway.
I just wanted to comment that hios letter to the President was so offensive (right from the Gov. comment:rolleyes: ). Thanks for posting it Jules.

And Jeff, your comments were very good. Of course, I esp. liked your comments about the Pope's stance and the Dixie Chicks too.

I suppose that is freedom of speech even though the man has no timing. Sad to think that the troops saw and heard this. :(

I watched the Oscars and enjoyed them. And I support Michael Moore's RIGHT to say what he thinks. As wacky as he may be. :)

I support his right to say it, and I support my right to say that I think he's a complete and total a$$ for saying it where he did.

And if you think his speech is whacked, you should watch his Q & A with the press afterwards...too bad they don't award an Oscar for ignorance...

I think it was a very inappropriate time for him to express his opinions.

Were the people with him on the stage all from his film or were they other nominees from his category? When he began to speak, he said they stood there united and I thought some of the people on stage with him looked shocked and one guy looked especially ticked off. Did anyone else notice that?

I wish that I'd seen the Q&A. Weirdos are fun to slam. :)

All in all, I think it was a surprisingly well-behaved bunch at the Oscars though. I expected more fuss.

The people on stage with Michael Moore would have been from his film or they could have been the presenters who linger in the background.

Planogirl, Moore invited all of the nominees from his category to stand with him on stage during his diatribe.

And all of the backstage press conferences are at

www.oscars.com

At first I thought he was an ***, but after seeing that Q & A session, I think he's totally out there. Oliver Stone probably thinks Moore is nuts.

I agree Jeff - his diatribe on stage just showed that he has no class. The backstage Q & A just demonstrated his ignorance.

I am a fan of Michael Moore and his films. I respect the fact that he has a very clear point of view that has remained consistent over time. He was one of the lone voices speaking out against Clinton's policies while the rest of the Hollywood crowd was silent. I certainly would listen to what he had to say before some of the Johnny come latelys who protest because it's the cool thing to do.

HOWEVER, I thought he picked the wrong time and place to make a point that he has already made in his books and films. The Oscars are supposed to be about entertainment. People tune in to be entertained, not preached to.

He actually invited his co-nominees to come up and they went? Wow, this gets stranger and stranger. Sorry for my ignorance about this but I've never seen anyone do that and had only heard what he said.

apagano, i agree completely. very well put. :)
