Is the "traction" thing where they put you on a table and extend the table so that the area that is injured kind of just stretches out and hangs into the indentation. I have read of some chiro's that use this type of traction treatment and it doesn't seem bizarre at all. Just wondering if this is what you're talking about.

Christine,
I'm not sha_lyn, but, I'll tell you about my particular traction, know as
DTS or 'Decompression Traction Therapy.'
The DTS Treatment Method is a non-surgical answer for disc related syndromes of your lumbar or cervical spine. DTS utilizes sophisticated, FDA certified equipment that gently stretched the spine, taking pressure of the discs and joints, enhancing the natural healing process.
Unlike traditional treatments, the DTS Treatment is actually based on your comfort and safety! The force gently graduates over several minutes to a peak that distracts the vertebrae and gently stretches the soft tissue. You'll experience several cycles of stretch and relaxation during DTS Therapy. Sessions are typically less than 20 minutes and many individuals benefit greatly with as few as 6-12 treatments.
What do thousands of patients know about the DTS Treatment Method?
They have found relief of many low back or neck conditions such as herniated disc, bulging discs, facet syndromes, and symptoms from degenerative joint disease and pinched nerves. Their symptoms are often eliminated following this highly effective therapy.
The DTS Treatment Method is helping thousands of people, who thought they would never eliminate the pain associated with simple tasks, such as getting our of a chair or up and our of bed. You have virtually no downtime and no drugs are involved.
As I posted earlier, I have suffered with 3 herniated disc for more than 15 yrs. Experienced excruciating pain and agony, many bouts of my daily life being interrupted by being bed ridden, going to MD's, orthos, neuros and PT's. Plus having the standard xrays, MRI's, EMG/NCV nerve testing and nerve blks. I can honestly testify that DTS therapy is the first relief I've had in yrs, and without a doubt works for me! I praise God, and the chiropractic field, for this wonderful invention that allows me to live a normal life, free of pain killers.
For those who have bad experiences with chiros and those who cannot be helped by chiropractic therapy, I feel your pain. For the nay-sayers who say they do not believe in chiropractors and would never try one, yet so openly voice their opinion...I hope and pray you never have to walk a mile in my shoes and experience the yrs of therapy, many back braces, uncomfortable tens machines worn daily and debilitating pain. For when you do, you will try anything on earth to help eliminate this torture.
Chris2597,
I wish your son the best, as I all to well know how it is to suffer in pain. Altho you are leary of traction, pls rest assured it is widely used by chiros and neuros for neck problems (disc/whiplash, etc.). Some drs. even allow their patients to do traction at home by hanging their traction from a door.
If you not feel comfortable or see improvement soon, try another therapy.
My whip lash therapy caused impingement on nerve traveling down arm and into hand causing carpel tunnel, took 6 mos to feel better. My SIL tried many therapies for his blown neck disc (fr playing baseball) before resorting to surgery. I do hope your son finds a therapy that helps and he has a speedy recovery.
