What do you think my chances are (BWV)?

In my never ending planning I have been thinking up options -- hubby and I have decided while we like being at 1 resort; it's kinda fun to check out new DVC locations (to us) -- we've checked out SSR, Kidani and BLT Our thoughts is to always have some time at home and then a few days elsewhere .

So honestly what do you think our chances of getting a BWV B/P studio will be 7 mos out with the plan to arrive Jan 6? Am I crazy in even considering this option?

And which do you think is better, preferred view or boardwalk view? Looks like if I DO get it I'll need to be specific with my request??

You have a better chance for a preferred view. Boardwalk view is only about 20% of the resort, preferred is about 60% and standard view is about 20%. Boardwalk and Standard views book the earliest. You actually reserve boardwalk or preferred view, it's not a request between the two.

imho, boardwalk view is amazing (we have actually resheduled trips when BW view was unavailable). preferred pool/garden view is just that; pretty, but doesn't have that WOW factor of waking up to the sun coming up over the BW, or watching illuminations/BW activity from your balcony

a few ppl have said that the BW noise can be bothersome, but in 2-3 trips a year in BW view, we've literally never had a problem (if concerned, note that upper floors will have less noise - e.g., ferries tooting, arcade games, drunks after jellyrolls closes. we found closing the balcony doors and insulated drapes masks any noise).

i'm unsure about availablity - the NYE crowds should be disappearing, and i think the marathon is later, tho...perhaps someone else can help more with that.
btw, the BWVs are our favorite resort - it has so much to do, or you can do nothing at all, and still have the time of your life

That is the beginning of marathon weekend which may hurt your chances for the Boardwalk view. The 5K is Friday morning, the half on Saturday and the full that Sunday. Boardwalk or standard view might be tough, but I would bet you could get the preferred view. I'd call right at your 7 month mark though.

You never know until you try. However, it is Marathon weekend and those dates often book up at the 11 month mark especially for the resorts near Epcot (where the race begins and ends).

We just contacted MS this morning trying to move a reservation from AKV to BWV and could not get all five days we wanted for early October. They did have 3 of the 5 days available (the three days in the middle) with a Boardwalk view for a 1 bedroom. That seems too risky to hope for a wait list so we booked a garden/preferred view for the last four nights and wait listed the first day. We also wait listed that date at BLT where we are staying first. So hopefully we can add that date to either the end of our first resort's stay (BLT) or to the beginning of our second resort (BWV).

I agree that staying at various resorts is fun. Good Luck on getting the reservation of your choice.
