What do you think about uniforms for school

I wore uniforms from 1st grade thur 12th grade. I wasn't crazy about it sometimes but it was easier in the morning b/c there was no deciding what to wear. Of course my parents loved the uniform idea too. My daughter will be attending a school with a uniform code which will be great b/c there will be no fights over clothes for school!

I would LOOOOVE to see my kids public school go to uniforms!! It would certainly solve the daily battles with my DD about what is "appropriate" and what is not!! But then it might be more difficult on my clothing budget, as most of my kids clothes are hand-me-downs or thrift store/yard sale stuff. ......................P

My DD's school does have a uniform policy but it is not enforced. About 50% of the kids wear them. I think, if they are going to have it, you need to enforce it. Life has become very simple in my house in the mornings!!

I never wore uniforms to school and always hated the idea. But the more I thought about it, the more I came to like it. A lot of people worry about how they look at school, and what other people will think of them because of what they're wearing. If there's uniforms, no one has to worry because everyone would be wearing the same thing. Plus there would never be problems with some girls with the dress code, because they wouldn't be able to wear things that show their bodies off too much.

My girls are in our Catholic school and I love the uniforms. Younger girls grades (K-4) wear the jumper and blouse & sweater and older girls (grades 5-8) wear the skirt, blouse, sweater. They have option to wear long navy pants in winter instead of jumper/skirt. Also have option in fall and spring to wear walking shorts and polos. We also have gym uniforms for their gym day - sweatpants, shorts, t-shirt, sweatshirt - wear according to what is needed for the weather.

My girls know that when they get home, they change into play clothes. We even do a "used uniform" sale a couple times a year to help with the cost.

Our school system switched to uniforms a few years ago when my DDs(now 8 &7) were in first grade and kindergarten. Now my DS6 is in kindergarten and wears them, too. I didn't encounter any resistance because my girls were so young, and I love the ease that a uniform wardrobe provides. They have gym one day a week and the other four days are uniform days. The principal also gives them dress down days for school pictures and other times throughout the year.

Don't forget, they also have the weekends and other non-school days to wear their other clothes.

DS, 5, goes to Catholic school. At first I liked the uniform idea. It made getting him dressed easy, shopping was easy, easy.

But after 7 months, I'm tired of it! Poor kid wears the same thing, day in and day out! Bleah!

The public schools around here are considering a uniform dress code.....I'm voting against it.

Like Popdaddy said, I like everyone to be different! :earboy2:

Our 3 ds all go to christian schools so uniforms are the way of life around here. DS 14 and 12 can only wear navy blue pants and a white shirt. A solid tie for jr. high and a plaid tie for 6th grade and under. Also they have a gym uniform t and shorts or school sweats. They get to wear any type of shoes they want, basically they choose sneakers. Oldest ds 16 has a very stirct dress code with more choices. Navy or kaki pants, a solid or striped tie, blue or white shirts etc. But they must be tucked, tied, buttoned etc. and they have only a few dress shoe choices. I must say their play clothes last alot longer because they use them only in the summer mainly. Our local high school has a dress code too. There are many things that are unacceptable because they are perceived as "gang related" etc.

I love it too. I HATE it when jean day comes around (they have it once a month). Uniform = no fighting in the morning!!!! Jean day = fighting in the morning about what to wear!!!!

My son's wore uniforms their whole school life. I loved it. They had to wear it so there was no fighting about it. My Granddaughter is in public school, and her parents spend more on clothes for one than I did for two. I liked the way the school taught respect to each other and adults too. If an adult walked into any classroom all the children stood and said goodmorning, or afternoon, which ever it was. I never saw any problems with behavior there in the 8 years they attended. I was a very strict mother and the boys didn't see any difference in their home or school environment. My grand-daughter does. They are way more lenient at her school, and she is picking up some bad habits, LOL.
