What do you think about the Pandora theme at AK

I thought it was a solid movie overall. Fantastic visuals and a strong, albeit unoriginal, message. I have high hopes for Pandora. I just don't see a Joe Rohde and James Cameron team up resulting in something less than spectacular.

oh my lol. So they definitely have room for many other things. A little off topic, but just looking at how much land is there by AK alone, do you think there is enough land for a 5th park???

Disney definitely has enough land for several more theme parks with in the greater WDW land ownership. The problem would be how much of it is currently set aside as conservation land (an agreement they have I think 10% of the property has to be designated that) and how much is marsh/wet lands. Now they could build up the marsh/wet lands but I believe the numbers would really have to dictate a 5th gate before that was ever considered.

Disney does have a luxury when it comes to land that the other Orlando theme parks don't really have.

I'm excited about it... I liked the movie more for the visuals and not the plot. I think it will be awesome to be immersed in it - especially if they really do pull off the "glowing" aspects of it. I wonder if they will remove the dragon from the AK logo and replace it with a beast from Pandora?

They do not have to maintain any conservation land on property - all of the property is subject to development if necessary, outside of the areas that would be needed for stormwater treatment for additional impervious development. The master development permits created an offsite conservation area (now known as the Disney Wilderness Preserve managed by the Nature Conservancy) to offset all development impacts to wetlands. They have land for additional parks, resorts, or anything else they might think to want.

That is good to know about the Disney Wilderness Preserve. I just knew Disney had something to offset the developed wetlands but wasn't sure exactly what any more.

I figure the dragon resembles the beasts they fly on (who's name escapes me) close enough that it doesn't need to be redone

I enjoyed the film and have watched it again when it was on the TV more recently. The sneak peeks they have shown are suggesting it will be visually stunning (like the film) and I'm looking forward to experiencing it first hand. I am thinking (for me) it will be about immersing myself in somewhere stunning and exploring the world they have created.

Couple of thoughts about the Avatar film vs. the Pandora attraction:

1) I think it's safe to say that many folks love Splash Mountain having never seen the movie, the attraction stands on its own merits. Space Mountain and BTMRR don't have movies associated with them (though I wouldn't rule that out in the future.) POTC had been around for decades before the movies came along, and HM remains popular despite the awful movie that was spun-off from it.

2) With respect to the sequels, I'm thinking the suits at Disney surely had some quality time with James Cameron during which he shared his vision for the story-line. Would Disney have made such a huge commitment to developing an entire "land" at AK without confidence that the Avatar story line has legs (and not just tails?) ;)

I didn't care much for the movie, but let's see what the attractions have to offer. Disney is due for some jaw-dropping advances in theme park technology, fingers crossed that the AK attraction delivers the good. :earsboy:

Yup, they actively add to it to expand at WDW. They added a huge chunk a few years ago.

The most fascinating thing about the movie was the planet Pandora. If Disney can make you feel like you are on that planet, which I think they will, I'll all for it. I truly feel Avatatland is going to knock it out of the park and people will be amazed whether they saw the movie or not and whether they liked the movie or not.

I have seen the movie once, and thought it was ok. I do wish they had done beastly kingdom, but I am still looking forward to the spin Disney puts on it, and I'm excited for that whole world and the floating islands
