We don't have "spare" cash usually. We have things that are carefully budgeted for, like vacations, insurance payments, etc., but to me spare cash is cash that is extra, left over, has no other purpose. I guess if I had spare cash, I'd buy a new Nook. Mine is pretty old and starting to fall apart.

Aww, everyone should have a bit of mad money. Any chance you could make it a line item in your budget? Even just a few bucks that are absolutely, 100% not accounted for in any way can be such a mental health boost on a bad day.
