From some of the posts that I've read here, I take it that it's probably a good idea to read up on some WDW guidebooks before taking the first trip. My question is what books would you recommend? Like I said, the DH and I neither one have ever been to any of the parks, and know that we need to do some research first, so I just wanted to see what everyone thought would be a good place to start without being totally overwhelmed. TIA!

Birnbaum's....theirs is the best!!! I have purchased many others over the years, theirs is simply THE WDW GUIDEBOOK imho.

Of course alot of your best info will come from right here at the Disboards but, as far as books go I would recommend The Unofficial Guide..it's got alot of great info. :wave2:

Book in the past and refer to it from time to time. Best shot, is the library. I've used them in the past for Birbaums and Fedor's, they are there for the taking, take one home and peruse it and if you find you're getting all you need from it,, go buy one at the book store. Birbaums is the offical book, alot of info, some say Disney biased, but the info is there, what to see, what to do, what to expect and what it should cost you, no tricks or shortcuts. Good reading before you jump into the unoffical secrets and tricks for visiting Disney.

I like Birnbaums due to the number of different volumes they make. They have them for kids, for families, for adults, for dining, etc. It lets you pick the volume that fits your trip and not have to go through a million different pages to find what you want.

But, I agree, some of the best advice can be found right here!

I bought the Birnams book, and quite honestly I did not learn anything from it that I already hadn't learned on here........

I would recommend THE UNOFFICIAL GUIDE TO WALT DISNEY WORLD, by Bob Sehlinger. (I have the 2006 edition here at home, but the 2007 version might be in the book stores by now.) The book is excellent, well written, and fun to read. At almost 800 pages, it is very comperhensive. It is priced at about $20.00.

Enjoy.

I use Birnbaum's guide as well as the Passporter. Both have different information them.

The ultimate guide, however, is right here!!! You can ask all kinds of questions and get speed, accurate answers. :wave2:

Enjoy!

I too like Birnbaums. Mostly because of the way it's layed out.

I then suppliment with info from DIS Boards and AllEarsnet.

I like Birnbaum's because of the pictures, but they make it all out to be perfect, and it's not always. I also like the Unofficial Guide.

I like the Unofficial Guide and the Passporter. They make a good combo. And

GO DAWGS!!!!

I agree with Dawsgirl as I also like Passporter and the Unofficial Guide however........GOOOOO JACKETS!!!! STING 'EM! :cool1:

Birnbaum's is good for getting a good idea of the layout of WDW. It tells you about all the attractions and marks those that it likes the best. In my opinion, most guidebooks out there are definitely pro-Disney. The UG, while pro-Disney will tell you about some attractions that get negative reviews from guests. If you're looking for a plan of attack to cram as much into the trip as possible, check out the assorted touring plans the UG offers. If this is going to be a rare trip, I'd advise getting Birnbaum's and the UG, so you can plan out the trip. We used UG on our first trip in 1994, and were able to get everything in that we really wanted to because of it's assorted tips on which park to go to on which day and what rides to hit at what times. It can get crazy with a vacation so planned out, but you're far less likely to leave WDW saying, "shoot, I wish I had time to go and see x."
