It's always a bit of a challenge to find something for stocking stuffers that aren't just junk to fill the stocking. This year I have something sure to please--Toys R Us gift cards! I got 10 $10 gift cards using my AMEX points, so each child will get $50 in gift cards! I found little tin boxes at Toys R Us for about 1$ to put the gift cards in. They will probably like the box as much as the gift :rotfl2:

Also, small flashlight keychain for both (I have a boy and girl)

manicure set for each--they need to quit using my stuff!

brush and comb set for dd

some candy

novelty socks

gloves

Last year I couldn't fit everything inside the stocking, so I placed the "overflow" in a gift bag and hung it on the same hook as the stocking. Beats placing it on the floor!

I do pretty much the same as you, minus the gift cards, and I add:

gum
bubble bath/shower gel with a new poofie
nail polish
lip gloss
magazine, or small activity book
sometimes a CD
bubbles for dd6
holiday jewelery(cheap earring/necklace sets)

We too have had to do the overflow thing before.

Mine get a new toothbrush, some kind of kid toothpaste, some bubble bath, small flashlight and a gift certificate for a McD's happy meal. DD is getting underpants and DSs are getting socks.

What will they like the most? You guessed it, the McD's Happy Meal.

My kids are getting

Character watches
crayons/markers
activity books(for my older 2)
coloring books(for the little ones)
some candy
small cans of play-doh
Jumpropes
yo-yos( for the older 2)

And probably a few more little things, didn't go for stockings yet! So not sure.

I simply do the hygene thing.....

toothbrush
toothpaste
shampoo
loof dog thing i found
chapstick
bath toys
and a few little toys

Socks and underware my kids know are under the tree from mommy and daddy. Unless they have been bad this year then santa will bring them :goodvibes

For DS4 is the Cars movie die cast characters that just came out.
Im so excited I searched for weeks and finally got most of them .
He is going to FLIP out, the ONLY thing he asked Santa for is
Chick Hicks , and im still looking for him.
He is also getting the Cars first shaving kit.
Also a ton of Disney store stuff, I hit the clearance sale a few months ago when they had the extra % off and went hog wild!!
Thank God his grandmother just made him a new Thomas the Tank stocking, its as tall as he is :rotfl: Im going to need all that room.
My oldest is 17.5 and he will get colonge and undies and socks and candy and hygiene stuff, and gift cards to the local fast food places.

The one thing I always try put in is a giant M and M filed candy cane. I got one of these as a child and was just so impressed that Santa had brought me something so wonderful!!

This year, satsuma oranges ("easy peel oranges"), bubble bath, chocolate coins (family tradition), and a Pirate & Princess Party invitation. :goodvibes

Here in Seattle there's a great campaign to give "Give Experiences Instead of Stuff ". While DD 2 is too young for most of the experiences listed there now, next year I'm looking forward to giving her Nutcracker tickets, Museum Tickets, Martial Arts lessons... whatever way her interests are leaning. I just like the idea of stuff to do instead of more toys in the house. And there are some pretty fun looking things for adults listed at a discount there, so it helps with her dad's stocking too! Just mentioning it for the Seattlites and thinking that folks in other areas may have a similar program.

I love small traditions like this. My dad always got a giant hershey's kiss.

I just stumbled onto this thread. Thanks so much all...I am always at a bit of a loss as to what to put in my kids stockings. You all have come up with some great ideas! :thumbsup2 I love reading the disboards for this reason. :wave2:

snip .

Yes, us too! To this day when ever I have anything orange/chocolate esp the smell of the orange it brings me right back to Christmas time :) Add a few crumpled up dollar bills and that was my stocking as a kid, and my dd's now with a few bonus items.

We are also doing experiences instead of and in addition to gifts although there isn't a campaign around here. My dd's are getting Nutcracker tickets, a day in NYC and some movie certificates.

Like the idea of the jump rope--dd's is too short, I have to look for a longer one.

Also, here's something I just thought of--replacement stylus to use with their Nintendo DS (alas, last year's model, not the nintendo lite :sad2:) Well, they are always losing the stylus, I saw one that's a pen type that attached to the game boy. That or just more regular stylus.

Any suggestions for older grade school/middle school kids? We've done mechanical pencils (the cheaper plastic kind), funky erasers, post-a-notes in funny shapes and colors, thumb drive (really useful for school starting at about 4th grade), small nerf football.... need different ideas this year tho...

My boys always get "new undies"........both are amazed that Santa brings undies!! Other stuff will include: dvd's, pencils, workbooks (numbers and alphabet), hockey tickets and some hersey kisses. The boys will be super suprised this year as their grandfather will also be getting "undies" in his stocking!!! :rotfl:

I always put an apple, an orange, and nuts... hey it's what I got as a kid. Also some candy, the kids love those suckers that spin when you push the button, and always a bag of chocolate money! Then a small toy.

Same here! We always just tapped our stockings for breakfast Christmas morning. We got poptarts...I think with my kids, I'll replace that with some breakfast bars. Add in some hot cocoa mix, a banana...maybe a juice box, and I get to enjoy the morning, rather than having to cook. Our stockings were never the gift center, maybe one small trinket.

My girls are getting chapstick, inexpensive bracelet, nail polish.DD7 is getting novelty socks also.DD2 is getting a little princess phone.

My boys are getting hotwheel launchers and a couple of Hotwheels. They may get a small nerf ball,I haven't decided.

They all get toothpaste, toothbrushes, and their favorite breakfast food(pecan twirls, poptarts) and candy.

DD's getting the Christmas morning barbie, Crayola Twistable crayons, Washable markers, DVD, candy and toothbrush

DS's getting wooden race cars, Coke Holiday truck (got with Coke reward points), small wooden puzzle, toothbrush

Yu-Gi-Oh cards fit perfectly in DS8's stocking!!

Bionicles too!!

LOL...my mom always put Slim Jims in our stockings...and I do the same for my kids! I never buy those any other time of the year, but always in the Christmas stocking!

I do the usual new toothbrush, new crayons for school, Tic Tacs, Slim Jims, body wash, etc....
