I am staying 9 nights at the POP (10.00/day charge)... deciding if I need a fridge or not should I spend the $90.00 on it?

We will have a car, its only myself and DD. We will have refillable mugs... so what am I missing that I may need a fridge for? We can bring a small foldable coller and ice anything if needed.

What is your fridges???

Thanks
PG

Are you staying onsite? I beleive most of the moderate and deluxe resorts have free refrigerators now and if one isn't already in your room you just have to ask. Not sure about the value resorts.

I drink very little soda. I put spring water in hotel fridge if the hotel provides one at no charge. My DH uses his part of the fridge for soda. I was happy to be able to stick a bottle of spring water in our fridge at the Swan last year and I am happy Disney is providing free fridges at mod & deluxes. But, I would never pay extra for a fridge. We just use ice to chill our water and soda if the hotel does not provide a fridge.

We had a fridge at POR in September and all we put in it was bottled water and our chocolate covered strawberries

We didn't get charged for our fridge while we were there!

We used our fridge for lunchmeat. We made sandwiches so that we didn't have to buy lunch also.

In the moderate and deluxe resorts onsite, the fridges are included!

We are milk drinkers in our household, so we usually have a half gallon of milk in the fridge.

In addition, it is nice to take your bottled water and put it in the freezer portion of the mini-fridge at night. Grab it and go in the morning and the ice will melt leaving you with cold water all morning.

With a fridge you can bring home leftovers (that can be eaten cold - sandwiches, pizza, etc.). We also pick up fresh fruit and cut up veggies at the market for snacks.

And the most important reason: the wonderful pink medicine for the kids' ear infections - amoxicillin.

mostly juice, milk for quick breakfasts in my room, and the bottled soda or water I plan to use in the parks the next day. The fridges are small.

I have several medicines that require refridgeration. Also, I use the fridge for bottled water, some sodas for my son & milk for my coffee & to take my pills with.
If we are there for awhile, I get some fruit & cheese that I keep in there for snacks also. DS will bring home leftovers.

For us, it's a neccessity, not an option. The fee was always waved because of the medication factor. If you don't need meds or bottled water & you don't plan on having any meals from your room, it's not worth the $10 a day, IMHO.

Peacefulgirl... are you driving or flying? We are driving and staying at Pop for 8 days. We purchased the same size fridge at Lowe's for $40. In just this one trip we paid for it with the savings of what it would cost to rent one. We plan to keep water and milk in ours.

I am flying... I do not think I will be needing the fridge ... unless I am missing something ...

We stayed at the Poly in September (we were there during a hurricane and stuck in our room all day). There was no fridge there (it sure would have been nice).

I know all of the DVC resorts have fridges and the cabins at FW, but what other ones do? When we were at POR in the summer (July) they didn't have them either. Is this something new. It sure would be nice!

BTW, when we stayed at pop we took our own fridge (of course we drove). We got it from Walmart (at the store not online, but here is a picture):

I know it won't help if you are flying, but if anyone is driving and needs a fridge at a value resort (or one that doesn't have one), this might be a better deal then renting one.

We stayed at the AKL in Sept. (only $119 night) and it had a free fridge. Since we stayed at AKL on a POP budget we bought all of our breakfast food, snacks and lunch food in it. It saved us TON of money and calories. I think breakfast is so overpriced anyhow and usual selections are so unhealthy. For breakfast we had yogart, juice, fruit, cereal, ect. Lunch we had low fat Pringles in the ind. containers, pb&j (Smuckers- you can find them in the freezer section), fruit and water. We never even missed eating out for those two meals. We did not have that over-full feeling that many of us feel on vacation. Nothing worse than walking around the parks with that bloated feeling.

Can you keep milk OK in a regular cooler if you refresh the ice? We'll be going in June, and I'd rather not fork out the extra for a fridge. But I have a two year old who would die without milk!! Anyone know?

The one I got from Walmart that I posted the link to (but as I said, I bought it in the store, not online) keeps milk cold enough. We use that cooler/fridge in our pop up camper in the summers when we camp because the fridge in our camper is too small.

I also used it a couple of weeks ago at Thanksgiving because I had too much food for my regular fridge. I had milk and pop and cool whip in it and everything stayed just fine.

BTW, we also use the cigarette plug on it in the van while we are going to WDW so we have cold drinks along the way.

As a lifelong camper, I'm here to tell you that you can store milk in a cooler.

Plastic jugs are a better bet than the cardboard boxes of milk, cause the melted ice ("water" to the lay-people) can make your box all soggy.
