What do you pack when visiting Florida?

Just interested in what people pack?

When we travel, we only take basic toiletries and buy what we need there. Saves loads of space and time packing.

In another thread I was astonished at advice to take plasters, small scissors and basic medical kits. I feel that is a little OTT, - but each to their own.

We have too ship two 3 foot containers over containing all my sons meds and equipment, so maybe my priorities are different.

What do you all do?

You made me laugh! That was me who said about tweezers and nail scissors by the way.:guilty: I keep tweezers in my make up kit and use nail scissors anyway as I don't like the clippers, lol.

I watch my levels of cosmetics/lens solution/shampoo & conditioner, etc in the last month or so before we go. I know more or less how much I will need so once it runs down to an appropriate level, I stash it aside for packing. Any leftovers hit the trash when we leave.

I do see your point about taking too much and quite honestly, if I (a) had a car there and (b) maybe stayed offsite (not an issue if you do have a car I suppose) then I would take pretty much nothing aside from essentials for the first night or two. But staying onsite with no car makes a huge difference in the way you pack.

I like to get my stuff on a buy 1 get 1 free months in advance of going:rotfl2: and the free 1 goes on holiday

I usually dont like going shopping for bits during my holiday so prefer to get it before we go and split it between the 4 cases.

I like a certain shampoo and also facial products which I might not be able to get over there.

But I know lots like to buy their stuff out there.

I buy everything I can before I go as I really don't want to be shopping over there unless it is for clothes or shoes!!

We pack really light on clothes though, half a dozen of everything and only the shoes we wear on the plane.

More room for the new things. :)

i take deodrant over, but anything else like shampoo, shower gel etc, suncream i buy over there... Its cheaper and I love going around Walmart!!:rotfl:

Do you still think it is cheaper? Since the exchange rate took a plunge in 08 I think some of the savings have been cut. Now an excuse to go shopping ..... :thumbsup2:thumbsup2 Which Walmart do you like best? And what do you stock up on? (Sorry, nosy me again)

We took everything with us this past trip what we normally would, but since we fit in a Walmart visit, we've changed our mind and we're going way lighter next time.

We loved Walmart :rotfl2: We spent over two hours in there without even realising that we had!!

I take half of Boots!!

Lots of IBS medication and pain killers, as well as medicine for any other illness we could be struck with (I have a big illness phobia, that would ruin my trip if I couldnt prepare as much as possible - I know it's weird, I'm a smart girl, but I cannot rationalise it, and everyone has learnt to just let me be prepared for any illness and they will have a trip with me worry free - PLUS they know who to come to if there's a problem!) My Doctor is very good and lets me take anitibotics just in case too.

I take enough suncream, shampoo, shower gel etc. etc. But this is only because we don't have a car and are on site. When we visit other parts of the US I take nothing and buy it all, as I know I'll be in a Walgreens etc.

The benefit to packing so many toiletries is they take up lots of space, and weigh a lot, and you dont bring them home so it's space for souveniers!

Clothes wise I pack pretty light.

We take enough clothes to last 5 or 6 days (normal stay is 2 weeks or just over) so that we don't lug lots of clothes.

We take basic wash stuff - often half used bottles we've already opened at home, sun lotion (after making the mistake of 'will buy there and then got burned to a fritter 1st morning before we'd been shopping), basic FA kit of plasters, aspirin, savlon etc because Florida mossies do tend to find me tasty, grr. Nail clippers and file because I always seem to without fail, rip a nail on the journey over somehow.

I love Walmart too, but if I don't feel like shopping that first day then we have the wiggle room not to bother till the day after if we prefer to leave it.

I take the following -

1 x underpants

1 x socks

1 x toothbrush.

Thats all you need, but i am ex army so i might not be the best example.

On a serious note when we pack we tend to include all our toiletries and even some washing tablets for the laundry. All this needs to be taken into account when working out your baggage allowance.

At the end of the two weeksjust dump all the toiletries and you will probably have about 5KG spare for all the stuff tou have bought.

yes it is cheaper as the bottles are massive!!
I like the walmart on the 535, oh and the massive one on the 192, and not forgetting the one on the osceola parkway...:rotfl2:
I buy loads of stuff, all the smellies for the hols, clothes like shorts, food, wine, beer, love looking through the craft section and the homeware.
I also love kmart!!:thumbsup2

Oooh, I've never done a kmart, good huh? Mission for this trip is to go to the SuperTarget on the 192, though our Walmart of choice is the one on 535 too :)

I do hope you put some on before you leave for the aiport ....

Yes, with 1 x underpants you would need lots of laundry tablets. Now it's none of my business, but I don't see any other items of clothing on your list

What the heck is going on in the UK that nobody wears undies to Florida anymore? Please warn all the folk going to the pool party .... :rolleyes1
