What do YOU pack in your carry-on bag???

I put (in mine):
-change of clothes & underwear
-small bag that contains toothbrush, toothpaste, mouthwash, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, contact lens case, contact lens solution, facial cleansing wipes, moisturiser, deodorant, & misc make-up samples. Everything in here is a sample & it makes it so much easier to pack as I just toss it into whatever bag I'm carrying on.
-medicine (back-ups of *everything* go in DHs bag)
-any important paperwork (passports, tickets, hotel reservations, etc.)

Basically, anything that can't wait a day or two goes into my carry-on. I figure I can always hit up a Wal-Mart or Target if our luggage gets lost. Or, *horrors* do laundry!!

My kids carry their own stuff (they're 6 & 9) but I make sure to stick a change of clothes & underwear in their backpacks. I'd suggest a mix of old & new small toys, coloring books, etc. Munchies are good too, especially if you can get a few 'treats'. For my kids, it'd be YoGos & Goldfish sandwich crackers.

Mine is still in diapers so I don't know if all of this is applicable. I have my "purse" which is a small sling style backpack basically packed for the parks, plus for the plane I had some EarPlanes (didn't really work for me) gum and suckers. For the parks I have a small blister kit, a small flashlight for DD which I have only used for finding small toys under resturant tables, a very compact raincoat for DD that fits in a snack baggie, baggies of disposable bibs and disposable changing pad covers, baby wipes, antibacterial wipes, diapers, a compact change of clothes for DD, camera, phone, itinerary, copy of park tickets, emergency contact numbers. I keep a seperate pocket for my medicine, tylenol for adults and kids, antibacterial lotion, sunscreen, and chapstick - I can empty all that into my quart ziploc at the airport.

Then I have my carry on backpack just for the plane which is toys, books, snacks, tippy cup, jackets and more diapers and wipes. If luggage gets lost we are stuck with the clothes on our backs! I do cross pack - everyones stuff is spread out between the checked baggage just in case. I also have a stroller and a carseat, so I can't handle clothes in the carryon too. We hired a towncar this trip so I didn't have to worry about my luggage being delayed from Magical Express.

We bring barely anything!!! This last trip I packed our carry on with bathing suits because we used ME and wanted to swim as soon as we checked in. I also had my wallet, paperwork, cell phone and sunglasses. DH doesn't bring a carry on. Also for DD who was 4, she had her own little backpack with some coloring stuff, books, snacks and her blanket. Oh I also got my DD a new My Little Pony to give her when she got on the plane, she was pretty excited about that.

never ever get on a plane without a change of clothes for your child.

one trip last year i didn't pack a change for ds (he was almost 4, well potty trained, why would i?) well he puked all over the waiting area at the gate. right before boarding. i had to run around looking for an outfit in his size in the giftshops. luckily i found one, but it was shorts & a tshirt and we were flying back to Providence in January.

so, lesson learned there. actually now i make the kids carry their own stuff. even my 2yr old has her own backpack.

other than that i just bring my meds, entertainment (dvd player for kids) and snacks.

No matter where I fly, with kids or without kids, I pack for the first 24 hours of the trip in carry-ons, just in case the airline delays my luggage. I think of it as trip insurance. If the airline can't immediately track down my bag, yes it'll be a big pain the you know what, but if I have a well-stocked carry-on I can still fully and happily function for the 1st 24 hours of my beloved vacation, rather than doing without or spending a lot of time and money and stress to "replace" things that'll probably show up tomorrow, anyway.

I agree to always pack for 24hours :)

Then i also bring entertainment for the kids:
coloring books/crayons
snacks
water/milk
change of clothes for everyone
book and a magazine that ALWAYS go unread :)

Then all important docs and info :)

Achange of clothes
PJ's toothbrush and trial size toiletries
Swimsuit
change of shoes
umbrella
medical stuff (OTC & Rx)
Snax & hard candy, gum
camera

The kids bring their DVD , gameboy etc and tapes, little toys & coloring books

I plan to pack swimsuits & at least some spare shorts, t-shirt, socks & underwear for everyone. My son too has a back pack that I have to watch so it doesn't get too heavy!

With all of the restrictions now, I'll probably just bring my allergy meds and toothbrushes. Last time I flew, they allowed no food or beverages through security (baby formula was OK). They had just allowed people to start buying food again after you passed security. Has this been relaxed?

:confused3
