I was reading tips on how to get cash (exchange) at disneyland without paying fees. We have a credit card. Where would we need to use cash? (Trying to figure out how much to bring.)

You will need it for some of the carts, such as the ice cream. :goodvibes

yeah those are really the only places you need cash for. i carried 50 bucks in cash during my whole 6 day trip and barely used it

Us too. I only carry $100 in cash for the 6 of us and I rarely use it. You only need it at the food carts. Everyplace else takes cc's.

So you are from out of the country? DH has been traveling internationally, and hasn't noticed fees, other than just bad rates sometimes, when changing money back and forth. He's been doing it at the airport, mainly.

You'll want some money for tipping housekeeping, if someone at your hotel helps you with your bags, etc.

For the carts with absolutely no connection to take cards (and Albort our CM connection says that totally unconnected carts are few and far between now, you can use a card *almost* everywhere), you can also go to one of the main giftshops (Greetings from CA in DCA, for instance) and buy some Disney Dollars with a credit/debit card, and pay that way. Sometimes the CMs don't want to look for the DDollars...the CM that was balking with me finally "found" them in the oh so secret spot of under the register tray, where you would put big bills and checks and such.

Thanks, sounds like we don't have to worry about getting more cash. I'll just tell dh to have a "small" amount so we can get snacks. I so want a chocolate covered banana, but just remembered that raw bananas make me sick and I don't want to do that to myself at disneyland. I plan to get dole whips and other stuff as desired, but hopefully not much.

You'll also need cash if you're taking the ART bus & planning on buying the tickets from the machine at the Park...it's equipped to take debit/credit cards, but that part's been out of order for my last 2 trips. (Not a fun surprise to get at the end of the day!)

I only needed cash for the bus and tips for the hotel. Oh and I guess for the penny, nickel, quarter presses.

Hello, all.
I can't seem to find the search function, will someone please be so kind to direct me to a few threads that contain information on going to DL on Mother's Day, please? :worship:worship: I can't seem to locate them, and for the second year in a row, it seems our plans are crumbling to taking the kids for their birthday in beginning of April. (Maybe 2011 for their birthday). Since I lost my mom this past July, I know I need to be at the happiest place on earth to not be as heartbroken and sad.:sad1:
Thank you very much.

hmm, Ice cream carts are now equiped with a register that do take credit cards...

JUST FYI...

what you need cash for is cotton candy! :)

Well heck - how did we miss that..! We were just there Saturday. We must be so used to forking over the cash that we didn't even notice. Thanks for the heads up!

Dole Whips (bleah) are at a permanent stand, and they take cards.

Restaurants and counter service and ice cream places and soda places absolutely take cards!!!!! Almost every single vendor takes cards. The non-card-taking vendors are few and far between nowadays.

you will see that the carts have little registers on them... its a little black computer looking thing... :)

And if you plan on using cash at the ART, be aware the machine says it doesn't give change. So make sure you have the exact amount :)

And I would plan on having a small amount of cash on you for the ice cream carts. I was just there two weeks ago and I must have found the one cart that didn't take card. I pulled out my card and he looked at me like I was crazy and said they only take cash :) I had no clue but at least I had cash, otherwise I'm sure I would have had a screaming child! :scared1:

I also like to bring cash for my sons spending money. I put it in his little wallet but you can use an envelope. And then when he buys something we take it out of his wallet and he sees how much money he has left. It helps him visualize and understand how much money he has left vs. using a card and me telling him, and honestly it helps me keep track of how much I've spent on his souveneirs vs. putting it on my card and forgetting about something earlier :)

Did they finally get around to bringing over the portable MATRA terminals from WDW? The ones with the stylus you use to touch the buttons?

I have had so many....interesting...experiences with those lovely little things since transferring to WDW. Walking around while holding a tablet in one hand and wearing a printer on my hip is quite possibly one of those defining moments of my time with this company, lol.

i know WDW managers came by our department to check them out... they suck though, it tkaes probably twice as long to do a transaction than before... :(
