occasionally i have run into a situation where to keep the horizon perfectly straight something else has to be crooked ( ie the edge of a building or something that probably is out of plum) so in your opinion would you keep the horizon straight at all costs or make the subject straight even if the horizon is slightly off( sometimes it's enough I can't completely fix it in photoshop so both are straight and don't look goofy ). i think i notice the subject crooked more personally so probably would go with making sure that was straight but then it just looks like you took it crooked:rotfl2: any ideas?
here's an eg of what i mean...in this case i think both the fence and barn are crooked. so do i make the barn siding straighter or the fence, but i can't really adjust either totally with out throwing the plants out of kilter..

here i made the bottom edge of the top fence rail as straight as i could since i figured you see that first but even with adjusting the perspective, the barn is still way off...or since it's obviously an old building do you think it really matters. obvioulsy the flowers aren't sharp but it's a for instance of the straightening dilemma

I work two different ways on this.

1) Rotate the photo until I get what looks, to me, like the best balance.
2) I rotate the image to make the subject appear that I turned the camera on purpose. I use this technique the most on objects. It does not work as well, for me, on landscapes or on photos such as you have in the OP.

In that particular photo - I think keeping the fence and flowers straight makes more sense. They are the first things you notice. To me it makes the crooked slats in the ?barn? more interesting.

When I have something to be straightened I ask my DD to fix it in photoshop:)
I can never remember how to use that program. Cropping and removing red eye is about my limit on processing.
As for your barn picture, I think the fence being straight works. I actually like the barn siding on a slant. Gives it old barn character. Nice:)

Yeah what they said!

I think it depends on the picture and what I am want the final result to be for me!

I agree. I like the barn slats crooked. I think it gives more character and gives a more rustic feel to the photo.

I think making it all nice and orderly makes it rather boring... sometimes crooked is good.

did you use perspective or what to make it straight? that was what i used but lost the windows i liked from the original even straightening it as much as i did. i liked the photo of the fence and barn but since the flowers are soft i might try it again next time i get there (NC, hopefully they didn't paint them lol) with a wider angle to get the windows and be able to make the fence less crooked

perspective and couple of mouse clicks... If you every plan on using perspective always make sure you have alot of extra crop space.
