What do you make for dinner?

What do you make for dinner on the night you get back from your Disney trip? We are driving and will be home around dinner time. After eating out all week in Disney it would be nice to have a home cooked meal, but I'll also be tired from being on vacation and driving in the car. Any suggestions? TX :)

I generally have cleaned out the refrigerator pretty good before we leave for vacation, and need to plan meals and shop, which is something I am not going to do after getting home from the airport. We usually will order a pizza, get takeout or even go to a restaurant once we get home. I try and take an extra day of vacation, so can use the day following our return to finish up laundry, shop, deal with all the mail that has come in, etc.

We fly & I don't cook on the day we get home. We either order pizza or get something from our favorite local taco spot.

We're too busy unpacking & going through mail, etc.

Plus, the way I see it is that I'm still technically on vacation that day & I don't get back to "reality" until the following morning!!! ;)

Throw a steak on the grill, some baked potatoes in the oven and a bag salad?

Rotisserie chicken from the supermarket with some fresh corn on the cob and pre-made mashed potatoes?

We call the pizza delivery people so that our arrivals are about the same time. We eat while we unload. Barbaric, I know.

Like the other posters, we usually eat out too. I'd love a home cooked meal too, but it aint happening at my house!! lol

If you have a relative or close friend that is watching your house anyway, you could cook up a pot of beans or a lasagna before yall leave, then the morning you are due back, they could take the food out of the freezer to be defrosting. Then when you get home, you just pop it in the oven while you're unpacking, etc.

Or a frozen Stouffer dinner, with some garlic bread and open a can of peas or corn.

Good luck and have a great trip!!!!!

I make a spaghetti meat sauce and put it in the frezzer then when we get home all I have to do is put it in the Microwave and cook the pasta.::MickeyMo

Hi! I generally get home after dinner, but I work 12 hour shifts, so I frequently do quick and easy meals. Faves are spaghetti and meat balls - i get pre made frozen meat balls, and it comes together in the time to cook the pasta. I also like stouffers meals, but they can take a little time depending on the one you choose. I also like the pre done bertoli meals, they are fab! Good luck and have fun at Disney (I have disney envy, I cant go this year:sick:)

We normally get pizza the night we get home. Then the next day after grocery shopping we have a nice meal. Roasted whole chicken, mashed potatoes (real, not instant) and a vegetable.

I find this a hard thing to figure out sometimes because of the time we get in (often late so we've eaten already) or more likely because the fridge is completely bare as I've made sure we've eaten the fresh AND thrown out anything that will be expired when we return.

I like the idea of premaking and freezing something that can then just be nuked. Very likely we wouldn't even have made a stop for salad at the grocery store on the way home.

Am hoping since we are on the DxDP that we won't be totally dying for something 'home cooked', now if it were CS meals all week...... *shudder*

Maybe I'll have a batch of Black Beans and Barley made up... mind you that is pretty fast on the stove anyways.

We get pizza everytime when we get home. It's kind of like a tradition :)

Can you stick something in the freezer ready to go and have someone stop by and pop it into the crockpot for you so it is ready when you get home? Maybe something like frozen chicken breast with tomato sauce, peppers and onions. Then you would only have to make the rice when you get it.

We usually drive home from Disneyland in the middle of the night, but the two times we came home during the day we stopped by the store and grabbed steaks to grill along with some in season veggies, bag salad and sour dough bread. We grill year around and always miss it while on vacation.

You could easily freeze something like ham slices. Then you could make some frozen bagged tortellini with a jar of white sauce, cook some frozen veggies, and be done. The biggest thing is not having milk.

In general I make dh go out and grab something, but sometimes going out for another meal is the last thing you want to do at that point. We also find if we've already picked up the dog we don't want to leave her!

Another Pizza person here. I know what you mean by wanting a home cooked meal. But after a disney trip and driving we stop for pizza and a gallon of milk. Then we tell the kids enjoy the pizza cause it will be the last meal outside of mama's kitchen for a while :thumbsup2.

Thanks for all the great suggestion.
I really like the freezing sauce and meatballs idea or stopping at the store and picking up steaks for the grill.
I would love to just order a pizza, not sure if there will be any money left in the budget for that after disney.

Wouldn't the steaks cost as much as the pizza?Just buy some bagged salad to go w/ the pizza.I'm always too tired to do any cooking after a lpng drive.

I dont plan it this way but it is almost always frozen ravioli and frozen garlic bread. It's fast and easy and tasty.
