okay, first let me say that the dis rocks!
you all have been helpful and informative (and patient!) as i have had a few questions lately about our hopeful DVC purchase. we are going to take the plunge very soon, but we are on the fence about which resort as our "home resort". also, we have not actually visited any of the dvc resorts (except ak), but feel that between the info from here, and the info from disney, we are pretty informed. has anyone else purchased without actually visiting your "home" first?

anyway, what is your home resort? and what do you love most about it?

THANK YOU!:)

Well we own at VWL and we love just the atmosphere there just the way it makes you feel like you are so far away but you are very close to everything.I love the smell of it when I walk in the door,LOL I know it sounds crazy. we love the beach area we love the lake.
We owned at BCV and it was our favorite but we had to sell as it was our biggest contract.

But all in all we have stayed at all of them except AKV, and SSR but we have been 2 both placs and we love them all for diffrent reasons.

We love BCV becuase of SAB and being able to walk to EPCOT and DHS. The Boardwalk is also great can always find a meal or sit and watch people go by. We love Cape May and Beaches and Cream. I think nothing says welcome home like walking in the doors and seeing Art the Greeter.:thumbsup2

We love the BW for so many reasons, but I'll try to keep it brief:goodvibes
We love the atmosphere, the strolling entertainment, the restaurants, the location, location, location, JELLYROLLS!, the pool slide, the views from the rooms, the bakery & sweet shoppe, the children's faces while they watch the magicians and jugglers - the face painting booth:hippie:
The boats to Epcot and DHS, watching the weddings that take place at the gazebo - the decor - the lobby, the lights at night, etc., etc., etc.!

Can't wait to go back.

We love  SSR for many reasons:

Very close to DTD and off-site resturaunts (we dont always want to eat on property).
You can park right by your room, comes in very handy for going to store or going out to eat or going to a water park.
Bus stops are very close to room, no three mile walks like our last DVC locations (ok maybe not three miles but very long at BWV).
Great atmosphere, numerous pools, great walking paths, very clean and never a mob scene (many more paths per room at SSR than other locations that are hotel-like).

We haven't been to OKW yet but it looks like our style as well, just a bit further from DTD and unsure of how close you can park to your room.

We own at VWL. I love everything about the resort except for the couch in the living room. It is just plain ugly.

But I love everything else!

AKV:
the elaborate, immersive theme
room decor feels elegant/upscale
lots of choice with the point scale
5 in a one-bedroom
lots of resort activities
great views
non-shared bus service
feature pool is open late

SSR:
proximity to DTD - great quiet pools
great food options at AP (really love the breakfast and flatbreads)
room decor feels elegant/upscale
detailed landscape design/walking paths
lower annual dues
non-shared bus service
a good option to enjoy non-theme-park-centered vacations

/
walk to 2 parks

sitting on the back porch in the rockers ( I could is there for hours)

My favorite of my home resorts is OKW.

Huge rooms
Lush foliage
More of a "community" feel
ability to park right next to your villa
seclusion (could be a negative for some)
actual laundry "room" in the 1 and 2 bedrooms

My favorite is AKV due to
1) Theming
2) Animals on the savannahs
3) Doesn't share buses.

To me, nothing beats walking on to your balcony and seeing giraffees and zebras!

SSR

2 great pool areas for kids
nice quiet pools
proximity to DTD (the boat ride rocks!)
feeling of home away from home (not like a hotel)
very "green"
very sound-proof rooms

OKW

HUGE rooms
the most secluded and quiet of all DVC
The pool slide (fastest one)
very private quiet pools

I have two homes.

LOVE OKW!!! It has HUGE rooms, it's bright and airy, and the appliances and laundry room in the units make it feel more like a "home" than a hotel. LOVE the huge eat on porch too. It has mostly great views no matter where you are, and it feels so "Florida". I just feel so transported to the Keys when we are there. I LOVE the lower point costs at our original home too!

AKV is my other "home", and while I have stayed at the Lodge before, we will have our first AKV stay next week in Concierge Club. I know I'm going to love the savanna views, because that is what we always liked about the Lodge. Not too keen on the dark decor, but it fits the theme.

I love our Boardwalk home because of the location. It is great to be able to walk to either Epcot or the Studios. When we don't feel like walking the boats are a great way to go. I love the decor at Boardwalk as well. A boardwalk view is great for people watching, while the standard view is great for just sitting a relaxing with a good book. I also love the fact that there are so many options for meals when you consider not only Boardwalk but the parks, Swan, Dolphin, Yacht Club and Beach Club...all within an easy walk.

We love each of our four home resorts!

BWV

  • The lively atmosphere of the ¼-mile Atlantic city Boardwalk! (lots of activity - street performers, games, nightlife)
  • Standard View rooms are low on points
  • Boardwalk View rooms offer a great view of Crescent lake
  • Ten-minute walk to Epcot; 15-minute walk to DHS
  • Great restaurants (Flying Fish Café and Spoodles)
VWL

  • Magnificently rendered theme - probably the best!
  • Quiet, peaceful and romantic setting/architecture
  • Just a relaxing boat ride away from the Magic Kingdom
  • Award winning restaurant (Artist Point) plus Whispering Canyon Café
  • Silver Creek Springs feature pool with Fire Rock Geyser
BCV

  • Location!!! Just a few minutes walk to Epcot!
  • Stormalong Bay: 3-acre mini-water park (the best feature pool at WDW!)
  • Close proximity to the Boardwalk resort area
  • Onsite character breakfast (Cape May Café)
  • Sandy "beach" on Crescent Lake
  • Good onsite restaurants (including Yachtsman Steakhouse)
  • Beaches & Cream Soda Shop
AKV

  • Great exotic theme (Africa)
  • Concierge Rooms (the only DVC with them)
  • The Savannas with views of the animals (20+ species)
  • Point-saving Value accommodation rooms
  • Quiet, relaxed atmosphere; feeling of remoteness
  • 1-BR can sleep 5; extra bathroom (Kidani only)
  • Excellent onsite restaurants (Jiko and Boma)
  • Large water playground/pool (at Kidani); Themed pool at Jambo
  • GV have pool tables!

I love the feeling that I get when I walk into WL, knowing that I own a piece right next door. I love the boat ride to the Magic Kingdom, my favorite park. I don't think that ride will be spoiled by our new neighbors cropping up at the Contemporary.

My favorite is VWL- homey, quiet, beautiful, love it all
My DH favorite is BCV- SAB, location, beautiful, love to be at BW at night

Good luck!! Every DVC in Disney is wonderful. We chose with our hearts and have never regretted it for a minute!!

thank you all for your enthusiastic responses.
i am totally leaning toward OKW for the atmosphere and the quiet - that would be such a welcome change from the busy parks. also - we don't require a 160 point contract, so we could buy resale and save $.

dh wants AKV for the theme and the savannah views.

we are still sifting through all of the information and details, but we are getting closer to our decision ;) .

Well wherever you decide it will be Wonderful and you will have years of great memories from all of your trips.

100% newbie here. Have NEVER been to or done Disney anything! Late last fall, upon returning from a business trip, DH, DD and DS met me at the airport. When DD asked where I wanted to do that evening...I jokingly replied...go to Disney! That started it...DD replied, she wanted to go and visit Mickey and DS chimed in and said he wanted to see Goofy and DH said well, if we are gonna go, lets go next summer while the kids are still young and can enjoy it! From that point, I have read everything I can get my hands on, found out I work with self proclaimed "Disney Fanactics" one who owns a DVC and one who just goes every year and found alot of very useful websites! Done deal. We booked WL-courtyard view for one week in September. Two weeks later, Grand-pap gets the elusive "40% off pin". Change plans, now add on pappy and mi-mi. Kewl! Add on some Seaworld time, Discovery Cove reservations, Universal time, ohh and almost forgot, the space shuttle is set to launch that same week...a lunch with a real live astronaut...trip got longer!!! Co-worker (DVC member) suggested looking into buying a timeshare. Calls to Disney and the Timeshare Store were both awesome. More research and viola we are set to purchase a resale. Today, just 2 weeks since we went into the ROFR process, we were notified by the Timeshare Store and their team we passed ROFR and we should be closing very soon. We purchased 200 points at $82, with 200 points banked from 2007 at VWL! Have NEVER, repeat NEVER been to Disney nor VWL--saw lots of pictures, did lots of research and honestly had great communication with Jason at the Timeshare store and many of the assistants down there. No pressure what-so-ever. Loved the DVC idea from the start. Hopefully, once everything closes we'll actually be able to get a reservation at VWL for September, if not I'm sure we'll be able to get in somewhere---I'm not too concerned-they all look great and the positve reviews far outweigh the negative.

As to why we chose VWL as our home...we all (DH38, DD9, DS7 and me40) just fell in love with it from the beggining---everything we saw and read. We are excited and with a little bit of luck, magic and maybe even some pixies dust...everything will be just fine! :cool1:
