I use mine for roast beef a lot.
roast
can of crm mushroom soup
pkg lipton onion soup mix
cook all day
I usually throw some carrots in there too and then make mashed potatoes when I come homeQUOTE]

Looks like we have the same recipe! ;) I add a few things though...I put the potaoes, onions and carrots right in. I also usually throw a can of mushrooms in, 1 beef boullion(a tad of H2o also) and a bit of red wine! Yummy! Of and I also use pot roast.

Has to be one of my favorites!

Are there any more crock pot ideas out there?

Don't have any recipe ideas, but I did see that Reynolds now makes crock pot liners, to make it even easier to cook in one!!!!!

I tried the soy sauce, orange soda and chicken recipe. It smelled awful when I walked in the door and my husband and son did not like it!! Oh well, I did find and buy the book Fix It and Forget It for the crock pot. I'm not giving up. I'm just way too tired to make dinner after working all day!!

I cook in my crockpot on the days that I don't have one of the dinners from My Girlfriends Kitchen thawed. We do all kinds of stuff

Fajitas with beef or chicken
BBQ Beef sandwiches
BBQ Brisket
Stuffed Pork Chops
Chicken Parmesan
Lemon Herbed Roasted Chicken
Beef Stew
Chicken Tortilla Soup
Vegetable Chilli
Chicken Enchiladas
Rump Roast

I have 2 crockpots so sometimes I do side dishes in 1 and the main dish in the other! I don't know how I would survive without a crockpot.

Gonna try some of these. I've never had good luck with the crock pot, but then again, I haven't really ever had any good recipes. I'm gonna try Blondie's turkey/cranberry recipe this weekend, sounds delish (and way too easy!)

Tried the soy sauce/orange soda recipe. DH proclaimed it too salty. I'll try something else soon. At least this one was better than my first attempt, that time the chicken was SO overcooked it was like wood.

I just bought the new Betty Crocker Slow Cooker Helper! I got the chicken and dumplin's to try. You do have to add your own real chicken! They are using Green Giant Veggie's and also they are using Bisquick for the dumplin's. I am waiting for it to get a little colder out before I try it out. I am hoping it is good. I will let all of you know.

I also picked up the following to try from Betty Crocker as well:

Pot Roast and Beef Stew. They may just be real good in a pinch! :goodvibes

I found it interesting that as I read thru this thread, I found recipes that I use all the time! I love my crock pot! I'm not a really good cook, so a device that makes it seem like I've spent a long time cooking is a godsend to me. Anyway, I thought I'd send along my families favorite recipe. I got it from Leanne Ely.

Carolina Crock Pork

1 1/2 lbs. pork shoulder roast
1/2 cup onion - chopped
1 clove garlic - pressed
1 tsp. dry mustard
salt and pepper to taste
1/4 cup tomato paste
1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
2 Tbs. cider vinegar
1 Tbs. olive oil

In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium high heat and brown pork roast on all sides. Place in a crock pot with remaining ingredients and cook on high for 5-7 hours or low 8-9 hours, depending on your crock pot. When done, shred with two forks and serve with crock pot juices.

We like to serve it with a touch of bbq sauce and of course a fabulous coleslaw. Smush it all together on a bun and chow down! Very yummy!

Don't waste your money! Really. I read about this tip and it works. Rinse out your crockpot, put some dish detergent in it with plenty of water and put the setting on keep warm. Let it "soak/heat" for about an hour. It really loosens up everything and clean up is a snap!

Does anyone have a good chili recipe for the crock pot?

I do, I do!!!

2lbs ground meat (beef, sausage, turkey) whatever you use
1 med. or 2 sm. cans of brookes chili beans
1 sm. can of tomato sauce
1 lrg. jar of salsa ( I use walmart/sams choice brand)

brown meat, drain. Add meat and all ingredients to your crock. I use mexene chili powder for a kick, no heat, just flavor. And 1 to 2 cups water. We like a thick chili so I never add more than 1 cup of water. cook on low/med. heat 6-8 hours. Serve with rice, tortillas, cheese, sour cream or just good ol' corn bread. Yummmmmmy!

I used my Crock Pot today to make a Black Bean Soup. It was super easy and DH and I liked it, although the kids didn't...but they're picky eaters.

Next time I might add some ground beef. I also thought it might be good with tortilla chips crushed in it, kind of like crackers.

3 cans black beans
2 cans Mexican style tomatoes
1 can corn, drained
1 can chicken broth

Combine in crock pot and cook on low for 5-8 hours. Top with shredded cheese and sour cream if desired.

So far I have only used mine for roast and it has always been awsome. I usually just get chuck roast on sale and throw it in there, season it good and let it cook. Since it's a fattier meat it makes it's own juice which we spoon over it or I have thickened it with cornstarch and make a gravy.

I just got this recipe out of Southern Living Cook book and I am dying to try it.

Slow Cooker Apple Butter

4 pounds cooking apples peeled and sliced
½ cup apple cider vinegar
3 cups granulated sugar
1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1 tsp ground nutmeg

Place sliced apples and apple cider vinegar in a 4 quart slow cooker. Cook covered at HIGH for 6 hrs. Stir in sugars and nutmeg. Reduce setting to LOW; cook, covered, 4 hrs. Cool. Store
in refrigerator up to 1 wk. Yield 6 cups.

This sounds yummy!

This is a dip i make and everyone loves it. You will need to use one of the smaller type crock pots.

Hot Crab Dip

2 - 6 1/2 ounce cans of crabmeat. I usually use 3 of these! be sure to drain

2 - 8 oz packages of cream cheese

1 medium onion - grated

1 tbsp. horseradish ( can adjust as you like)

1/4 tsp. garlic salt ( can adjust as you like)

Just put all of these in crock pot and stir every so often, till it's all mixed together and heated. This isn't a crock pot recipe that you leave all day. More for entertaining. Serve with crackers. MMMmmmmm
This is YUM!! Be sure to serve in crock pot cause it needs to stay warm!!

I couldn't resist - I went to overstock and bought the spiral edition of "fit it and forget it". It was $11.33 and then 10% off that. Can't wait to get it!!! Lori

Thanks for all the recipes and those liners sound great.

Tried the orange soda chicken, dh hated it, ds loved it, just my luck, LOL.

I cook chicken breasts a lot to shred for burritos and chicken and dumplings and I agree, just start them out frozen or cook them for only a few hours so they don't dry out (even with liquid they get dry).

I've kind of made up these two chili recipes, but I get compliments on them all the time.

White bean chicken chili

Cook 4 or 5 chicken breasts with a can of chicken broth, a cut up onion, a few cloves of garlic, a little oregano, and ground cumin.

Shred the chicken, drain the broth throwing away the onions and garlic pieces and gradually stir in 1 can of cream of chicken soup, a little milk and 2 or 3 cans of white beans (I use Bush's)

Add more cumin, oregano, cayene pepper, salt and pepper to taste.

Heat through and then add a half a block of shredded pepper cheese.

Really good served with a little sour cream on top and flour tortillas that have been criped up a bit in a non stick skillet, cut in wedges with a pizza slicer.

Texas chili
(great for anyone who doesn't like the texture of hamburger, tomatoes or kidney beans)

Cook about 2 lbs of stew beef with 2 or 3 16 oz cans of tomato sauce, a package of dry beef or onion or combo soup mix (Campbells or Lipton) and a package or 2 of chili seasoning, (I use about half of a Carol Shelby's package)

Add 2 or 3 cans of Bush's chili beans (they're not the big red kidney beans)
and heat through.

I think it would be better with some peppers, onions and tomatoes, but then no one in my house would eat it.

It's rich and hearty and requires lots of french bread.

Also, here is a popular one I'm surprised hasn't been posted yet.

Italian chicken

Cook 4 or 5 chicken breasts with a small bottle of Italian dressing (very stinky)

Drain, shred the chicken and add to a block of cream cheese, a can of broth and a can of cream of chicken soup that have been mixed together.

Add seasonings and or a little of the dressing, serve over egg noodles.

Very thick and rich, I usually mix whatever veggie we're having into mine on my plate.

MSDISNEY...I would love your recepie for chicken and dumplings...the only restaurant I no that makes them is horrible and bland. Thanks for starting this thread...can't wait to try some.

DH is making gumbo in the crockpot today. Mmmmmm.

And you aren't posting the recipe? Let us know how it turns out.

BTW I am looking forward to trying the chicken and dumplings. I was able to find cream of chicken soup with no dairy (soy based) but still looking for refridgeater biscuits with no dairy or eggs. Going shopping today. :goodvibes
